  1. I thought we lost our ability to offer arbitration to K-rod when we bought out his option...
  2. Lost in the greinke madness was a great outing from bucci. The org must like him...20y/o in high a is pretty cool.
  3. I think fielder for Josh bell and Zach britton would do it for me
  4. Anyone that thinks Jeffress is more valuable than Beckham needs to put a few things in perpective. Jeffress is probably a reliever, and and although he could be a great one, they simply cannot provide much value. Beckham is how old? 24. McGehee was toiling away in the minors at that age. Beckham was a top 15 prospect 2 years ago, and has had his ups and downs, sure, but has been solid for much of his early career. If we trade fielder, Beckham can play 3rd as McGehee slides to 1b where he belongs ( or we could trade him and put Gamel at 1b). I wouldn't worry about a surplus of infielders, especially with weeks approaching FA. Now, of course I'd rather trade prince for all pitchers or pitching prospects, but I'm jut proposing an idea with the white sox, who may actually be interested, unlike many teams.
  5. Don't get me wrong. I'd love to keep jeffress, but to get players with value, it's going to have to hurt a little bit.
  6. I wonder if we could add a prospect to get beckham included. Maybe prince + jeffress for beckham + Floyd. I agree flys may not be quite enough for fielder, but adding beckham is asking too much.
  7. I could see the rays liking Gamel for 1B. I would think about trading axford to them too. Definitely a regression candidate
  8. I have a feeling - and it's probably just that - that Fielder will continue the trend of being superhuman in every other year, and especially next year with FA looming. If this happens, we may be able to swindle someone at the deadline and get more than we would right now. Certainly not my most astute, statistically sound analysis, just a hunch.
  9. Probably not the best spot for this, but thought some would find this interesting...sorry for the poor formatting: Player Name Stat Type Bavg Obp Slg OPS G AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI SB CS BB SO Lorenzo Cain Minor .286 .359 .412 771 500 1928 299 552 117 21 28 221 97 32 187 404 Austin Jackson Minor .288 .355 .410 765 564 2200 350 633 122 28 30 254 123 35 221 520
  10. mcgehee has actually been very consistent. his bb, k, and iso are identical to last year's, and while hisld/gb/fb have been funky this year, the major change is that his babip has gone from .330 to .288. He got lucky last year.
  11. I wouldn't worry too much about Rivas today. All the hits were singles, and he had a 5:1 K:BB ratio with 9-4 GO-FO. Better than the ERA suggests
  12. I read an article on fangraphs today about players who were better in the majors than they were in the majors. One of the tidbits discussed how Hanley Ramirez's power blossomed in the majors. I think Hanley's stats could be a good model for lawrie's...obviously i don't expect him to be Hanley, as he K's much more, but his power development could be similar. Both players have/had been touted for their power in their scouting reports, but it didn't totally show up for Hanley in the minors, and hasn't yet for Lawrie either. EDIT: thanks for the help, BK
  13. Upon further thought, I'd trade Hart for Delgado or Minor of the Braves straight up. Probably Moore or Colome of TB as well.
  14. It may be out of reach, but what do people think about these options for Hart? Both teams are in the race and could use another bat and reliever to get lefties out. Hart + Villanueva for Wade Davis of TB Hart + Villanueva for Kris Medlen of ATL Not sure when Jurrjens comes back, but the braves are starting Eric Hinske in LF. Rays could use hart in RF or DH, and call up Hellickson, although I suppose they could also use Jennings in RF as well. It might be too much to ask for, with both pitchers having 5+ years of service remaining, but just wanted to hear people's thoughts. Both of these teams have a plethora of younger SP prospects that would interest me, but they are all a ways off. Edit: Clarity
  15. schafer playing for BC today...good news. hope he can get to HVL soon so Lo Cain can get his much-deserved bump to Nashville
  16. Ebba...the TV crew has said repeatedly that CV changed his breaking ball grip to a "spike" curve, a.k.a knuckle curve, which has given it more bite.
  17. Yep, biedergb hit it on the head. People thought there was no way that he would fall to us at 26...maybe everyone else knew something we didn't.
  18. What about trading prince to the Braves? They've got lots of arms I'd be interested in...Delgado, Teheran, and Vizcaino in particular. 14 of their top 20 prospects are pitchers! Plus, if we wanted a 1st Baseman to replace Prince, they have Freddy Freeman.
  19. Hawkins' stuff has really got me thinking he's injured. Check out his velocity on Fangraphs: http://www.fangraphs.com/...29&position=P#pitchtype. McCalvy also had an article up on his missing velocity: http://brewersbeat.mlblog...led_by_velocity_dr.html. The other telling sign, IMO, is that he's barely thrown his slider at all. I guess he has thrown his curve, so maybe its not injury related, but lots of red flags. Sorry if this has been mentioned here already, I don't usually comment/read the major league forum.
  20. That's actually a really good comparison, but unfortunately for more reasons than you intended. That hypothetical Braddock, being too fragile to start but fully equipped to get through an order more than once, is a good comp for Kuo '08, when Kuo was something of a long man-closer hybrid, as opposed to your standard long man of the crappy Dessens-ian variety. After yet another arm injury, however, Kuo '09 was never used more than an inning at a time and never brought back out after finishing an inning, which sadly is closer to the Braddock of reality, or at least Braddock '09. Then again, Kuo has had a truly heroic number of arm problems as opposed to Braddock's pretty standard amount, but even leaving aside injury concerns, getting a manager to carve out a nonstandard bullpen role like that, especially for a completely unproven player, is going to be difficult. A more realistic goal is the Todd Coffey fireman-esque role from last year, though he obviously wouldn't be able to pitch as often as Coffey did.Don't worry, BK, that part of the comparison wasn't lost on me. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/tired.gif
  21. As X noted, a high leverage, multiple-inning reliever would be awesome to have. Braddock reminds me of Hong-Chih Kuo, who is used commonly in this role.
  22. As noted, these assignments are preliminary, but it sure seems like Kentrail Davis is holding his own at the High-A level. Honestly, every box score I check it seems like he has a Triple!
  23. Manny continues his high-BABIP ways...seemed like mostly grounders that found holes. Plus, no walks and 5-1 GO-FO so far. If he can keep the walks down (IIRC, none last time out) success will follow because that BABIP cannot stay that high.
  24. I've said it here before, but Narveson really reminds me of Wandy Rodriguez with his low-90s FB and big CB. Wandy never had good minor league numbers (IIRC) - similar to Narveson - and now he's a solid #2 or 3. Maybe there is some truth to the idea that lefties just take a little longer to develop; I'd sure hate to lose Narveson, and while I'm OK if he's not in the rotation on opening day, he better be in the pen.
  25. 4 Groundouts and 3 Ks from Narveson vs. 2 baserunners. I really, really hope they keep him; I don't think he has a legitimate shot at the rotation, but he could be the long man, and could be the first one called on to make spot starts. I think he's got great potential, reminds me a lot of Wandy Rodriguez stuff-wise. They have similar MiLB stats (IIRC), and Wandy broke out at a later age, too, like many LHP. I'd hate to lose Narveson to waivers.
