  1. Hunter, and Khris and Kentrail are all feeling it right now! Prince got steal 37 as well!
  2. Eddy Rivera, Guy can fly AND walk! Gets me excited but prob should wait longer than 30AB's before i get too excited lol
  3. Awesome reports! Its great to have a dedicated and knowledgable Helena fan on the board for these type of insights! Truely grateful. Martinez is 20 years old (a January birthday) and was orginally a SS which really sparked my attention on him plus the fact he was one of the very few everyday players that first year the crew went back to DSL and teamed with the O's. Hewas 17 then. He never hit for much average or walked much and k'd alot but from what you have seen, its sounds like he has closed some of the gaps in swing up a bit and is focusing more on making contact. He has gorwn a bunch since he was 17 and guessing that is why they moved him over to 3rd. I'd like to see him play more but in Helena they rotate lineup so much to get everyone in. He is a guy I pull and hope continues to grow as a prospect. Think he has some potential. Thats all i have on him from following him and without watching him play.
  4. All the world talent in the can't hide from this. Does not walk at all, k's at a very high rate, and is the definition of an all or nothing free swinger. Still have high hopes for him, he has eveything u'd want in a SS prospect except one of the most important....the ability to consistantly get on base. He has that Weeks thing to him. We will go on stretches that will make you just say wow, this guy is special!!! then other stretches where its like wow, what is he doing up there!? Hopefully he continues to grow as a hitter, still young and learning but i just want to see him hit for some average and take a few walks. If he can't, Arcia will and bypass him.
  5. MTBrew what are your thoughts thus far on Ruben Ozuna who is having a bit of a rough season after playing very strong past 2 seasons and while small sample Andres Martinez who I have followed closely in DSL and Arizona? Thanks in advance!
  6. Hate to say it because I love Greinke but think if he is not going to commit, we need to trade him and try to get something. We have Thorny, Peralta, Rogers who all need some starts before we can even hope to rely on them next year. Realistically Grinke and Marcum could be gone, I prefer not to have Wolf for 11 or so million for another year, Narvey may not come back to where he was, and our rotation could be hurting bad. Estrada and Fiers have been outstanding of late, Yo is usual Yo and our front man but next year scares me right now. Thorny needs more work to develop life on fastball and also could greatly benefit from a cutter in off-season Peralta in ST and small opportunity has not been able to to shine or show his potential Rogers has proved something in his small opportunity but guy just needs to stay healthy and throw some strikes. Nelson could be ready mid 2013 but 2014 is more realistic Can't judge Jungmann until AA, vey well could be Heckathorn pt. 2. The fact he has notshown any ability to miss bats worries me a bit Bradley, was so high on but wow....has he been bad since April/early May Bucci lost almost a whole season Scarpetta did lose a whole season Gagnon is to early to tell So really we need if we can get a good young arm for Greinke or even a SS it would be hard to turn away if he plans to walk anyway.
  7. Yeah, some personal stuff and forgot my new password and just never got around to getting it sent to me but been keeping up and checking everything everyday! Natural habit after over 10 yrs lol (since i was 14 and the big Weeks/Young debates) But I am back and should be able to help out again for earlier games and weekend games, work at 5am M-F so am in bed before most games are over and dont have much time to do a write up before i leave for work during the week.
  8. Ouch. Starting to think Keith Laws just tries to make me cry now....actually convinced of it lol
  9. Not to forget driving over fences and playing like a gold glover out there.... I want to know what that scouts thinks IS an athletic guy..... he said he didn't mind short pitchers if they are athletic, I don't see how he is any less athletic than any other quality short pitcher
  10. Who would have guessed that out of 4 hits in Huntsville 1 belonged to Gennett, Davis, and Morris. Guys are on fire right now!
  11. Also one thing I always like to point out when talking about pitching prospects... Nick Bucci is in AA (once he is healed up) and is the YOUNGEST pitching prospect in the Brewers system ahead of Jorge Lopez. He won't turn 21 until July and is a full year younger than Bradley, Hall, Gagnon. He has been like that 4th grader who plays on the 6th grade traveling team his whole career. I like to keep that in prospective because that makes what he has done so far, that much more special. Hopeful he recovers soon and pitch well as one of the youngest pitchers in all of AA
  12. After he signed, he pitched in Helena (21), then last year (21/22) in Wisconsin, now his 22/23 season is in BC. That is a pretty common trend for college pitchers in the Brewers system. I foresee him promoting soon after he turns 23 (end of June) if not he will still start AA at 23 next season which is not bad at all.
  13. Don't tell the experts that! Have to remember we are a terrible, bottom feeding, bottom 5 system to them
  14. I'm starting to see more of Peralta in Nelson. Both have outstanding sliders, throw mid 90s, have very heavy fastballs (I believe Nelson not sure about Peralta actually throws a sinker). Both get ton of groundballs and have raw ability to do so while having pretty solid K rate. Peralta has a better change-up at this point but I have read that Nelson's is developing pretty well. So far I would also pick Nelson as most impressive in the small sample size. Part of that is because we expected Thorny and Bradley to perform at this high of level. Most of us thought Jimmy would be good and solid in rotation but not this dominant. Gagnon has also really impressed and hope he works his way to BC once one of the big 3 bounce up to Huntsville. He'll prob skip over Miller as first to promote. Miller has been very unimpressive as an older college repeat in MWL
  15. Who wants to answer the impossible question: What pitcher has had the most impressive start? Thornburg Bradley Nelson Gagnon Jungmann
  16. Glad to get mentioned during Stars broadcast for my incorrect answer of Southern Charleston (backwards) for where Thorny went to college. Mass was the big winner.
  17. So is it time to get super excited about Brewer pitching?!? I think so!
  18. Downhill Thunder is flat out rolling this season. If this continues he will be the first in that outstanding rotation to be booking it to Huntsville! I think this is his way to say most of us were wrong that he was a reach/bad pick and that hes not worth being considered a top 10-15. Started changin my mind in 2nd half of last year, now im convinced with my original assessment as wrong
  19. Guess this would be the best place to place these links over starting a new tread. I thought I'd attach these sites for advanced stat reference. Fangraph A personal favorite except it is not as convienant as Baseball Reference Nashville Sound Huntsville Stars Brevard County Mantees Wisconsin Timber Rattlers Helena Brewers Arizona Brewers DSL Brewers Minor League Central Then here is a great reference that has just about every single stat you could ever need to breakdown a Brewer minor league hitter/pitcher. Minor League Central--Brewers
  20. I think this is most accurite. He has always been a high 80's Low 90's guy. In HS he topped out around 90 maybe 91 and his frame is about the same. He may be able to reach back and juice it up to 93 one in awhile but will likely work around 90
  21. Dishon delivers double in ninth for Rattlers win By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers GRAND CHUTE, WI - John Dishon's two-out, RBI double in the bottom of the ninth inning scored Yadiel Rivera from first base to give the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers a 4-3 victory over the Peoria Chiefs on Saturday afternoon on Time Warner Cable Field at Fox Cities Stadium. The Rattlers took a 3-2 lead into the top of the ninth, but the Chiefs scored a run in their last at bat to set the stage for Dishon's big hit. Wisconsin (5-4) continued their trend of early runs by plating three in the bottom of the first inning against Chiefs starter Ben Wells. Chadwin Stang was hit by a pitch and moved to second on a ground out. Jason Rogers knocked in Stang with a ground rule double. Wells would hit Greg Hopkins to put two runners on base and Ben McMahan cashed in Rogers with another double. Hopkins crossed home plate on an RBI grounder by Rafael Neda. The Rattlers have scored in the first inning in four straight games and in seven of the first nine games of the 2012 season. Peoria (3-6) got on the board against Wisconsin starter David Goforth in the top of the third. Zeke DeVoss hit a two-run line drive homer that just cleared the 16' high wall in left field to leave the Rattlers with a one run lead. Goforth struck out three and walked two over four innings and turned the ball over to Chad Pierce for the fifth inning. The Fond du Lac native gave up a pair of walks, a pair of hits, and struck out five over four scoreless innings. Pierce was in line for his first win of the season, until there were two outs in the top of the ninth. Seth Harvey, who picked up the save in Thursday's win over the Chiefs, retired the first two batters in the top of the ninth. But, a walk and a single put runners on first and second for DeVoss. The Chiefs second baseman singled to center to send the tying run home and also move the potential go ahead run to third for Wes Darvill. Harvey deflected a grounder off the bat of Darvill to short and Rivera made a quick throw that barely got Darvill at first for the final out. The game appeared to be heading to extra innings as Chiefs reliever Kyler Burke retired the first two Rattlers in the bottom of the ninth. Then, Rivera singled to get the game to Dishon. Dishon had entered the game as a defensive replacement in the top of the eighth inning and was placed in the ninth spot in the order. He drilled a 1-1 pitch to the gap in left-center and Rivera raced home with the winning run. The final game of the series is Sunday afternoon at 1:05pm. Andy Moye (0-0, 0.00) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers. Willengton Cruz (0-2, 12.46) is set to start for the Chiefs.
  22. Hernandez pitches Barons to series victory over Stars Pedro Hernandez allowed one run over 6.0 innings of work, picking up the first win for a Barons starting pitcher this season as the Barons defeated the Huntsville Stars 6-2 in front of 5,759 fans at Regions Park. Jose Martinez and Damaso Espino were the offensive stars for the Barons driving in a combined five runs and collecting four hits between them. Martinez finished 1-for-3 with three RBI while Espino went 3-for-4 with two RBI. Trailing 1-0 in the second, Jared Mitchell put the Barons on the board in the bottom half of the inning, tripling in Jon Gilmore and scoring on a Martinez groundout for an early 2-1 lead. The lead increased to 3-1 in the fourth as Espino singled in Jon Gilmore. The Barons would tack on two more in the sixth as Martinez doubled in Gilmore and Jared Mitchell for a 5-1 lead. Espino delivered again in the eighth, blooping a single to left to score Mitchell and giving the Barons a 6-1 lead. With the win, the Barons won their first series of the season and improved to 4-6 in the process.
  23. Final Huntsville 2 Birmingham (White Sox) 5 Huntsville Boxscore Stars banged out 10 hits however were unable to convert hits into runs. The Stars only had one extra base hit which was off a Josh Prince triple to start out the game. Khris Davis continued to stay hot going 2-4. Jason Jaramillo and Andy Gonzalez each produced two hit games while Jaramillo also produced one of the two RBI’s for the Stars. Domnit Bolivar finished the game 1-2 with a BB, Sac Fly and a RBI. Pitching was not great tonight. R.J. Seidel started the game and had a line of 4IP 4H 3R 2ER 2BB 2K’S. After being extremely productive in 41G and 64IP in 2011, Darren Byrd had a rough spring and has struggled with control in his last 2 appearances. His line tonight was 2IP 2H 2ER 4BB 1K. Hopefully he can quickly get back to 2011 form. Roque Mercedes finished off the game with 2IP 2H 1ER 2BB 2K with a wild pitch. Play by Play Not much for excitement in this game, however this caught my eye a bit. Nice pickle it sounds like to get out of the jam. Birmingham Bottom of the 5th •Pitcher Change: Darren Byrd replaces R. J. Seidel. •Justin Greene walks. •With Drew Garcia batting, Justin Greene steals (4) 2nd base. •Drew Garcia flies out to left fielder Khris Davis. •Andy Wilkins walks. •Corey Smith strikes out swinging. •With Jon Gilmore batting, Justin Greene steals (5) 3rd base. Andy Wilkins steals (1) 2nd base. •Justin Greene out at home, catcher Jason Jaramillo to second baseman Matt Cline to third baseman Andy Gonzalez to catcher Jason Jaramillo to shortstop Domnit Bolivar.
