  1. He probably needs to prove himself a bit more before becoming valuable. His defense has been weak at third in the majors, but from what I've heard he was solid in the minors... Given Mcgehee's age, do the Brewers still have five years of control?
  2. Wow, that's rough... For only a month, I don't think this will be a terrible downgrade. Hopefully Catalanatto can be productive.
  3. Let's just hope the slow guys who take walks don't clog up the bases for Corey. Seriously, I don't see the harm as long as he never touches a major league diamond again. Which would seem to make this signing entirely pointless. Oh well.
  4. I think I'd make a wager that he'll see some time in the rotation. Who knows at this point, though.
  5. Guess that's not a terrible surprise...As sad as it is to say, Vargas will be a welcome addition to the rotation at this point. I can't believe I just said that, I feel so dirty.
  6. I've said it before and I'll say it again, Dillard's peripherals in AAA don't support his ERA. His strikeout rate in AAA was alarmingly low, his walk rate was mediocre at best, and he wasn't an extreme groundball pitcher. I still believe that Gallardo, Parra, Looper, Vargas, Burns and Cody, and maybe even Villanueva are better options than Dillard at this point. Who knows though, with the way things have been going, Dillard could move up in this miserable depth chart.
  7. Meh. He's only owed the league minimum, and he should be good for a 5.00 ERA. Can't really complain and can't exactly be excited. He's just about the definition of replacement level, and they got him for pretty much nothing.
  8. Don't really know enough about these prospects to say much, but is Sherrill arb-3 eligible next year or will he be a FA?
  9. Not a half bad haul for Sanchez...I would assume he'd be a type B after the year (maybe he could squeak into type A). Do the Pirates have anybody that can step into 2B yet? Sanchez's contract offer was pretty reasonable for an average hitting plus defending 2B (3 Years, 20,000,000)...
  10. In theory, the loss of a replacement level starter should be no big deal...However, finding even replacement level starters has been difficult lately...You'd just think there would be someone who could give servicable innings, but there really doesn't seem to be...
  11. Just out of curiosity, does anybody know the record for home runs given up by a team in one year? This is getting ridiculous (check that, it's been ridiculous for the last three months). never mind, just found out: 2001 Rockies 230 HR's, in the AL 1996 Detroit Tigers with 241...That's certainly within reach!
  12. Cody? Wright? Wright? It's just hard to expect much out of these guys (except for Cody), when they have been significantly worse than Burns was in AAA...It's pretty amazing the lack of depth in this organization...What's Odalis Perez doing right now?
  13. Just saw that...On a real positive note, the Astros have two on and none out, and that's a double play
  14. You've got to figure Hall could be more effective than Paul Janish...Hmm...what about Bill Hall in mop up duty a la Janish? Is there really anything to lose? On a side note, I think I heard KC is doing that with Tony Pena Jr....Even for a pitcher, he'll be miserable with the bat.
  15. Villy's peripherals aren't great this year, but they certainly aren't terrible (8.04 K/9, 3.30 BB/9, 1.24 HR/9), and given the other options, I don't have much of a problem with this. There simply aren't many other viable options, other than Dillard, who hasn't exactly mowed down AAA hitters this year.
  16. Just as a point of note, Difelice in his first 7.2 IP in the majors gave up 5 runs on three long balls. That's not to say Swindle's success in the minors will translate to the majors, but condemning him based on a handful of major league innings seems a bit hasty given his minor league success.
