  1. This is exactly what I am saying. Thank you for posting JB12. Sure these players are productive. No doubt. But I think the Brewers are better off locking up true stars and spending this other money elsewhere. Right because Weeks made such huge contributions last year. Oh right, when we needed him he was .... hurt. Awesome. He has 49 post season at bats with a .133 average. I didn't like the Weeks contract when we gave it to him and I sure as heck do not like it now. So yes when he has the WORST BA in the majors I am going to call him out. Back to the title, WASTED MONEY! Hart. I like Hart, I just think it is tough for the Brewers to sign any outfielder when your left fielder is your best player and signed forever. Signing Hart really hampers the ability to bring up a succedding minor league outfielder. So can this be classified as wasted money, potentially. It isn't bad money as he is productive but to me, I just wonder if a Schafer / Gindl type could put up ok numbers. Then we got Aoki and he is productive. Might have been able to spend that money elsewhere. Ramirez - Really wasn't a fan of it at the time. I think he will fall into the Hart category, while productive, could a Taylor Green (given full playing time) or a Jerry Hairston been a better fit. Based on money, I think we all wish we had Jerry over A-ram. Wolf - I was good with the signing at the time, knowing this year probably would suck. He has been productive, and it's kind of what the Brewers get for having no minor league pitchers to pull from. Going forward, I would prefer not to have to stick $30 some million dollars into a #4 pitcher. I would rather give that money to our top end of the rotation. So could it go into Wasted money? K-Rod - Brewers got a little bit screwed here. Maybe Doug should have done his homework a little better? I don't know. Sucks to get stuck with this contract and have him play bad. But this goes into Wasted Money as he isn't productive, and costs a lot.
  2. Monty I am on board with you (again) ... I am saying the same thing. I think the Brewers have a better chance to aim for 2014 than they do 2013. If you trade away the items you mentioned we could have a lot of top prospects at the Major League Level. Not many people want to sacrafice next year. But I am fine with it. Every now and again, you just need to adjust and move in a different direction. The Weeks, Hart, Gomez, etc project isn't getting us to where we want to be. Lets make some trades while these guys are worth something.
  3. I agree with this. If we can get something for Hart we should trade him. Morgan and Gomez for that matter too. I would be fine with seeing Schafer, Aoki and Gamel at CF, RF and 1B. Time to start getting some chips back.
  4. I agree with all of this. I would prefer the Brewers going the route of securing the great players and combining them with the unproven minor leaguers than what we currently have.
  5. I am probably going to rant a little here. I am just lost at why this team can sweep the Dodgers but get swept by the Ned Yost led Royals. I am sick of the Brewers wasting Money to middle of the road players. Or even a 1-2 All star level talent. See: 1. Weeks - $10 mil 2. Wolf - $10 mil 3. Hart - $9 mil 4. Ramirez - $10 mil 5. K-rod - 8 mil (AVG Salaries) So we can waste away $47 million dollars but we can't sign Sabathia and Prince for the same money (Each make $23 mil per year)? I know long term committment. Could be the doom of our franchise. But oh yeah, the Blue Jays dumped Vernon Wells and his horrendous contract ($21 mil per year) so I am pretty sure Prince or Sabathia's contract could be dumped at some point too. Or how could we possible fill the other 3 positions. (Ummm pre-arby guys make 400k per year. Works for me. Give me Prince, Sabathia, and 3 pre-arby guys over these clowns) I am sick of us signing these players to this money and letting the great players we have walk. Mediocre + Mediocre + Mediocre = Mediocre!!! And this year it equals last place. Will the Brewers ever stop paying for these players and just start playing the guys in our minors who are collecting dust? I would prefer to have a few GREAT players, than a bunch of mediocre garbage. Ok, I feel a little better.
  6. I agree with that. If you can get a crazy return, then yes trade him.
  7. I see this is your first post, so welcome, but huh? Trade Gallardo and the money we owe him? 2013 - $7.5 2014 - $11.5 2015 - $13.0 ummmmm, no- I will pass on that. He isn't an ace but he is a good pitcher. Also, Marcum a 3-4? You aren't the first one to call him this but come on really? If anyone thinks Yo is a 2 maybe 3 but yet his ERA & WHIP are all worse than Marcums in 2010, 2011 and this 2012 year is kidding themselves. Marcum is a 2 - 3 talent. And the stats show he has pitched better than Gallardo our so called 2. Also, it is completely unkown what our minor leagues hold. We could just as well have 2 numbers ones than we have none. It's really hard to predict Major League success based on minor league success. So I wouldn't be so quick to judge our minor league system as having not 1 person capable of being an ace.
  8. Suppan was a bad idea Bill Hall's money was a bad idea Giving Weeks all that money is looking to be a horrendous idea Gagme for 1 yr 10 mil was horrible, albeit for only 1 year. Trading Hardy and subsequently trading Escorbar is what makes it bad. If Doug had to do it over, you should have just kept Hardy and traded Escobar. Whoever signed off on signing Macha was a bad idea. And while we are talking of Coaches, letting Maddux walk was a bad idea. Actually, letting Mike leave is probably in the top 3 on my list. He was under valued here. David Riske was a bad idea too but that was only 16 mil. Those are the ones I could think of ... so ya, the Hardy situation was handled pretty poor. And then the icing on the cake was trading Escobar. So we went from 2 good SS to none.
  9. I wish Gomez would take some notes from Aoki and shorten up his swing ... Way to go Nori!
  10. This. Our bench is horrendous - we need help
  11. Green over swinging a bit there ... He almost fell over
  12. I looked, albeit briefly, and didn't see this in the Minor League thread yet. I think it is potentially better suited here. Any possibility of Vlad coming to play 1B for us? I like .300 hitters. Too bad he doesn't play 2nd. http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20120612&content_id=33164898&vkey=news_mlb&c_id=mlb Edit - use spell checker next time!
  13. This is where I am at. Say it another way - We have a better record than the Tigers, should they sell? I would say no. Your window to make the playoffs is small, especially for a small market.
  14. Rickie does have a career .500 batting average vs Volquez in 12 AB ... Not that really means much - but just saying ... Positive vibes - lets go Rickie!!
  15. LOL - right ... and I would pretty much walk almost anybody on this team if it meant I got to pitch to Weeks. He is horrible this year. Hopefully this AB is where it changes.
  16. The scout note on gameday says after 45 pitches, opposing hitters are batting .367 off of Wolf. .260 before 45 ... Need a big game from Wolf today. We need a win.
  17. Why should we sell soon? We don't have a rotation for next year, so we might as well throw away this year too? We are 6 games under .500 in the first week of June. There is 4 months of baseball left. I am pretty sure Doug isn't budging at all until the All star break. In addition we are in a stretch now where we play the 4 worst teams in all of baseball. If our record is back above .500 before the break, I could see Doug "going for it" one more time.
  18. The bad thing to me with just seeing what the options are in FA is going to net us another Braden Looper. You are also relying on Estrada and Narveson to hold the 4 / 5 spots. I am assuming we will let Fiers / Peralta get a spot ... So if we don't sign anyone we have 1. Gallardo 2. Peralta 3. Fiers 4. Estrada 5. Narveson Leaving us with have no backup depth. I am ok with either Estrada or Narveson getting the 5, Fiers and Peralta getting the 3 / 4 ... that is where I give Marcum the money and he is our 2. Even if you find some sort of bargain FA buy, then put that FA bargain buy into the 3. And let Fiers, Peralta, Narveson, Estrada fight for the 4 and 5 spots.
  19. I like Marcum. I would be willing to give 4 years with an option for 5 ... He is a really good pitcher and I think he could be had for 4 yrs 60. Which IMO, is worth it. We need good pitching and right now our only starter next year is Gallardo.
