  1. Looking at their HR rate / Strikeout rate / Walk rate from 2019 Smoak 4.4 % HR, 21% K, 16% BB Thames 5.5% HR, 31% K, 11% BB
  2. Per Heyman - Brewers are close to a deal with a Justin Smoak, solving their 1B issue
  3. OF Delino DeShields Jr. and RHP Emmanuel Clase heading to #Indians for Kluber, source tells The Athletic.
  4. That is a good point with Grisham. Braun to 1B would be interesting and it's using existing roster pieces to fill slots to use the saved money elsewhere.
  5. This was a no brainer. The difference between Chase and some of the other internal options isn't much different. He is a fine pitcher but 8 million can be better spent elsewhere. Brewers need to cut costs and Chase was just at a cost that was just a bit too high
  6. Interesting move with Thames today as we do not have a clear option here. Wonder what they will do. Is there a possibility of a major upgrade (Abreau?) or this is just moving pieces to get Grandal back and have him play more 1B? What say you BF.net?
  7. We all wanted CC but unfortunately he had to go where the money went. The worst part about it is we were awarded the Yankee's 2nd round pick because in some universe Mark Texiera was rated higher than Sabathia and the Yankee's first round pick was given to the Anaheim Angels. That pick would then be used to draft some dude name Mike Trout. We would draft some dude name Max Walla in the 2nd round and watch DJ LeMahieu and Patrick Corbin go a few picks later.
  8. The list is growing - good work bf.net - found some others on the interwebs: A Restaurant To Be Named Later Just a Bit Outside Bud's Suds and Grille Rock's Uke's Pub Mr. Baseball's Eddie's Windmill Six Four Three 7th Inning Stretch
  9. From this link: Looking at their website, Delaware North operates the 1919 Kitchen & Tap in Green Bay. I'd imagine it'll be similar to that. Nice find. 1919 is a great spot and always at capacity before and after packers games. I will also tip my hat to Friday's. I loved it. It is an amazing place to catch a game and socialize. I also agree with this name. Just a Bit Outside Kitchen and Tap. It's the right kind of perfect for Milwaukee. 1970 Kitchen & Tap just doesn't have the right ring to it.
  10. Brewers - SD (4), PIT, @ CIN, @ COL - 13 Cubs - CIN, STL (4), @ PIT, @ STL - 13 Cards - WAS, @ CHC (4), @ ARI, CHC - 13 AZ - MIA, @ SD, STL, SD - 12 PHI – @ ATL, @ CLE, @ WAS (5), MIA - 14 WAS - @ STL, @ MIA, PHI (5), CLE - 14 Brewers have catapulted themselves into it with a 6-1 road trip and a current 9-1 ten game stretch. They now have a shot at a 90 win season
  11. Well hello playoff spot. 17 to go
  12. Brewers - @ MIA (4), @ STL, SD (4), PIT, @ CIN, @ COL - 20 Cubs - @ SD (4), PIT, CIN, STL (4), @ PIT, @ STL - 20 Cards - @ COL, MIL, WAS, @ CHC (4), @ ARI, CHC - 19 AZ @ NYM (4), CIN, MIA, @ SD, STL, SD - 19 PHI – ATL (4), BOS, @ ATL, @ CLE, @ WAS (5), MIA - 21 WAS - @ MIN, ATL, @ STL, @ MIA, PHI (5), CLE - 20 The Brewers play the bottom 5 in the NL Standings with the only team remaining with a winning record being the Cards. If the Brewers can sweep MIA, they would probably move up a game or two but then might move right back down with a 1-2 trip to STL. However, looking at their final 13 games, they could bust out a 11-2 run. They closed last year at 9-1. If they go 16-4, they are in.
  13. Look no further than the stats 2019 - Best ERA's (Top 5 bullpen appearances) Hader 2.70 Guerra 3.63 Claudio 3.79 Jeffress 5.02 Albers 5.17 2018 Jeffress 1.29 Hader 2.43 Burnes 2.61 Knebel 3.58 Jennings 3.22
  14. If we look at the coaches the Brewers have had over the years we have 1. Ned Yost - Ned couldn't manage a bullpen but part of it was Melvin never gave him a bullpen. It ended with his dismissal and possibly too soon. 2. Svuem - Lets face it. Dale wasn't perfect but he was light years better for this team than what they got next 3. Macha - lets just call this the failed Macha experiment. He was horrible. 4. RR - his pitchers arms fell off all at the wrong time and we limped to the finish line in the best season in a long time. One could argue he didn't forecast the post season well 5 - CC - I am a fan of his. Some of me being a fan is I didn't like much of the above. Especially blowing prime years with a talented core on Macha. CC pulled a lot of the right strings last year. This year, it is a combination of things not working. Our bullpen is hit or miss and mainly it's been a miss. Our hitting is inconsistent and dependent upon HR's as pointed out by Stache in this thread: viewtopic.php?f=63&t=38962. Lots of injuries on our starting rotation. At the end of the day the Brewers are not far off from a NL Pennant team. I actually like the build of the team. Give me average type starters (low cost) with an awesome bullpen (Higher cost) and a team that can hit. (Mix of high and low cost) That is my recipe. Sure, I agree maybe a little too reliant on the HR and the injury bug has really hurt our pitching but there is a lot to be excited for next year especially with CC at the helm and not some unknown person. As the saying goes, sometimes the grass isn't always greener on the other side and I just don't see CC as the issue.
  15. Starting it's own thread as I didn't think the random 2019 news was the right spot for it. Some nuggets of info: Brewers open the year with 14 home games and only 5 road games. We get the AL East: T May 19-21 - Yankee’s @ Brewers Sa May 30-31 - @ Tampa Bay Rays F June 5-7 - @ Boston Red Sox M June 22-24 - Blue Jays @ Brewers Tu July 7-8 - Rays @ Brewers F Sept 11-13 @ Baltimore Orioles We get the Phillies opening day: Thursday April 2 – Brewers @ Phillies 7 game road trip at STL and CHC in early July will be interesting No more Cubs series after Sunday August 9th All Star game is @ Dodger Stadium and then immediately after it we play Friday July 17 @ San Diego, followed by 3 games @ LAD.
  16. Brewers have 17 of their next 27 at home. If they ever wanted to go on a run in 2019, the time to do it is staring them right in the face. If Stearns and Counsel have somehow managed to fix the bullpen, their lineup has the potential to jump up from currently being "average" in MLB with 4.8 runs per game.
  17. The Brewers own the 5th best record in baseball against teams over .500. (34-28) https://www.baseball-reference.com/leagues/MLB-standings.shtml The Brewers next game against a team with a losing record is 27 games away when we play Miami on Sept 9th.
  18. There is a lot in this thread but a few things jump out Knebel is definitely leaving a hole but Woodruff and Burnes. Eh, maybe a little. Woodruff pitched 12 times before Sept 1 of last year, I guess to me that isn't much of a hole. He was barely in our bullpen. (Plus of those 12, 8 of them were for 2 or more innings, meaning he was just a long man.) Corbin Burnes pitched 2 times before the all-star break last year. Then he became a key guy. Another way to look at last years pen: Jennings and Barnes had more outings than both of them combined. Matt Albers is a bounce back candidate, just look at his history. Stearns will find a guy who will excel into a late inning option, he always does. And Hader in the 9th, why not? Sure, we like him going 2, 3 innings but I also like the Aroldis Chapman in him that when he is in, it's pretty much lights out. But at the end of the day, if Jeffress can come back strong, it gives Counsel options as I don't want a "9th" inning guy or an "8th inning guy" - I want out getters and when their meat of the order is coming up and you need outs, Hello Josh.
  19. Win-Loss Record:94-68 Playoffs (Yes, No): Yes Highest Playoff Level Achieved: World Series All-Star Game Representative(s): Hader, Yelich, Cain, Woodruff, Grandal Offensive Player of the Year: Cain Starting Pitcher of the Year: Woodruff Relief Pitcher of the Year: Hader Most Surprising Player: Ben Gamel Most Disappointing Player: Chacin
  20. Agree with the comments. I like that in our starting lineup, Moustakas, Braun and Arcia are the only ones who didn't make the list. Makes one think that this team we have put together, has a shot at being pretty good.
  21. This is all shaping up to be one of the more exciting spring training camps in a while. Coming off a great season, one could say this team should be better than last year. Even if you factor in "regression" on some, others will improve. On paper, this team has a lot of positives that outweigh the few negatives and I am excited that Mark A feels they are all in. I agree that plopping down ~$30 million to upgrade your offense that came up a bit short in the playoffs definitely feels like you have armed your team with the needed strength. Can't wait for opening day! Can't wait for Torts positivity thread and the Brewers prediction thread and the name your starting 5 thread and the lists go on and on. This is going to be a fun year - Go Brewers!
  22. Definitely agree on the shuttles and Uber, they are a disaster. The whole interchange around MP needs to be redone to get cars onto the freeway faster and not slow down 94. Expanding 94 to 4 lanes is in dire need. But they need to figure something out in the short term. I normally park over the river in the Yount lot. I get it's a huge lot but I am always surprised they allow cars to head westbound on Canal (say from Potowatami) and into the traffic snarl around the park. You would think they would shut traffic down heading into the park temporarily via Canal. If you need to get into MP (Uber / Lyft) you need to take the freeway or come up 43rd st. When I head out of Yount I am frequently delayed by the traffic cop stopping cars exiting the lot to let a few cars into the mess. As for Friday's, I take my 9 year old son there and have gotten tables near the bullpen. It's a blast and he loves it. The staff is fantastic there too. It's a good question on the lease, not sure on that. I would image it isn't indefinite.
  23. I like the idea of a higher end apartment unit. With the expanse of the apartments going on, it's surprising a luxury apartment hasn't opened near miller park. I am sure room is an issue of where specifically would it go As for inside of Miller Park, I am sure this would be difficult but anything to expand the back wall for more standing room / lounge area's would be appreciated. Other parks (like Comerica) have really nice lounge area's. We just don't have anything. I am thinking it would be an area filled with out door type furniture, a nice long bar, TV's, etc. The challenge they would have is they don't have room for it. They would have to lose the Toyota Tundra territory to fit it in. I also think they need to improve the first 10 rows in the 100 level. Most parks have padded seats up front. It doesn't take any more room, just adds a cushion. I always find it odd that you get the same type of chair in row 1 or the nose bleeds. Other parks have changed this. I hope they continue to expand the tailgate zone they are creating on the north side of the park (3rd base wall). That is long over due and I hope they continue to expand it with food offerings.
