  1. Doesn't hurt that there is no state income tax for at least 81 games a year. Using Wisconsin's top tax rate of 7.75%, means that the Brewers would have to pay him at least 3.9% more just to be the same net return for Reyes. $100 million Marlins = $104 million Brewers. Pretty sure state tax is based on you state you live in not the state you work, but I'm not 100% sure. I think if Reyes lives in FL but works in WI he would pay WI state tax, but then receive an offsetting tax credit from FL that would make his tax line up with what he would have paid living and working in FL. Either way, the Brewers would have to pay him a ton of money to sign him. I think Miami is going to throw what ever they have to his way to get him to sign, and I think it wouldn't be in the Brewers best interest to get into that bidding war.

  4. I also couldn't disagree more. A 22 year old posting a 2 ERA and 40 K's in 30 IP at AAA. His walks are down and k's are up. He is a lock to be a June call up at the very latest, and might be in the rotation to start the year. Back to the topic, I would love Headly, but the Brewers can't give up top pitching prospects to get him. Green and Ross for Headley would be awesome. I like Green, but I just don't buy in yet.
  5. If the Brewers can't sign Reyes I think Barmes is the best option. I could care less about his BA away from Coors because he has a good glove.
  6. I would be ok with Barmes, but I would be irate if they signed Pena for 10 mil. I am fine with Gamel getting a shot at $400K. Worst case senerio is he is just ok, but I don't think that will be the case. If Gamel has a horrible spring training they could always look to make a preseason trade for an 1B upgrade. Barmes and Gomez up the middle both plus defenders helps this team more than people think.
  7. So Texas had no one on the bench who was a better option than an injured Cruz? If they did Washington should be fired as an earlier OP stated.

  9. I know. I could see during a meaningless game in the middle innings to get caught by surprise on an opposite field line drive like that, but we are talking the final out to clinch a World Series title. Every single player on defense should have been at maximum focus and ready for anything there.
  10. Did you see Nelson Cruz play that ball last night on that David Freese triple. That is an out 99% of the time. They were playing no doubles defense, and Cruz was about 10 feet off the warning track where that ball landed. I guess that makes sense though no doubles probably doesn't stop triples. That game showcased horrible defense all around. Looked like a Brewers game.
  11. We got him for scraps because he was coming off his worst year ever with the bat, and Washington wanted him gone because of his attitude. Morgans antics towards the end of the year started to get really old. I am in the keep Gomez camp. It is only a matter of time befor Nyjer goes Nyjer and becomes a huge distraction. That isn't what the Brewers need as a young and somewhat inmature team.
  12. Same here. It used to be only certain players, certain situations, etc. As soon as EVERY player did it after EVERY hit it jumped the shark. Much like the Tony plush phenomenon. I used to set my DVR every time he was interviewed. When it was natural, just great authentic comedy at it's best. But when he started trying to play the role it got old. Couldn't have said it better myself. I agree 100%. Beast Mode and Tony Plush because tiresome after it became forced. Beast Mode after a game tying hit or HR is awesome. Beast Mode after a walk or every hit not so awesome.
  13. Never said anything about Gamel being traded. We would have to trade something to get Morrison right?
  14. Completely disagree on Gomez. He'll be an incredibly cheap platoon mate for Morgan at worst. If not he's a great bench option because of his speed and defense. No way they let him walk. I do completely agree that Gamel won't be in the OF. He'll be at 1B or off the team. He didn't play any OF at Nashville this year. If him being an OF was in the cards, he would've been playing some in AAA last year.I agree with you on Gomez. I don't see why people think he has no value. He has tremendous value as a defensive whiz in CF and as a pinch-runner. I actually wouldn't even mind it if he got the CF job full-time and hit 8th. People just need to accept that he won't be much of an offensive force but he shouldn't need to be with the way he plays defense. I think NLCS showed how important defense can be to teams. Gomez is one of, if not the best defensive CF in the game. You don't just cut a guy like that.I will jump in and agree with you two on Gomez. I would personally like to see him as our everyday CF and try to trade Morgan this offseason while his value if fairly high. I like Plush, but I think a meltdown is going to come sooner than later with him. I think the negative perception of Gomez is due to RRR batting him second for far too long the first half of the year. His speed and defense is far to valuable to deny. Like the previous OP said. I am more than happy with him batting 8th, and being the everyday CF.
  15. No I wouldn't as Hart is to old and costs a lot the only good prospect coming my way would be Peralta. Both Green and Gamel have huge question marks. I would want something better than Green and Gamel along with Peralta for Heyward. Both Green and Gamel look to be average to below average respectively at their positions they would be at. Also unless Gamel can play the OF and he really hasn't shown he can yet I would have nowhere to play him as Freeman is 10 times better than Gamel. Green is interesting but at best he will be just above average at 3B. Really the only good player coming back that I would be able to use in Atlanta would be Peralta as Green and Gamel really are not top of the line prospects or players. I would not trade Heyward for anything less than at least three top prospects and I don't see the Brewers having that talent to give up.After the 2010 season maybe, after last year no way on earth you give that up for Heyward. Hart too old? He is 29 and coming off back to back 25+ HR, 860 OPS years. If Atlanta is down on Heyward at all I could almost see a straight up trade Hart for Heyward. I think you underestimate the trade value of Hart right now.
  16. So that two years makes you want to trade away more of our depleted farm system before you even know what Gamel can do at the big league level? Weirder... more weird...
  17. When did I ever compare Peralta to Green? I was using Green as an example of how this organization feels about young talent that could help the big league squad. They tend to shy away from using them if they don't have to. Peralta is going to have to dominate AAA and force their hand.
  18. Sounds a lot like a guy we have in our own system named Mat Gamel who hit .311 with 28 HR last season in AAA. He has a total of less than 200 career big league at bats. Why would you not want him to play full time to see what he can do. I still have high hopes for him.
  19. Exactly the point. He needs to be in AAA to work on command. We can't afford to have a guy in our rotation with command issues. Maybe he gets hot in Spring Training and gets the nod, but I would think he'll be in AAA. Mainly because I doubt we'll trade any of our starters anyway.I agree, he will start the year in AAA no matter how he does in spring training. He can work more on his comand, and my guess is he will dominate again and the Brewers will be forced to call him up. I just can't see them giving him a shot in the rotation to start the year. Look how long it took them to give Green a shot in the bigs and then honestly never even really gave him a shot because he never played.
  20. I don't think they can trade Marcum this offseason. His postseason performance has his trade value at an all-time low. I can guarantee he will be the good Marcum at the start of the year. I said it last night, he threw more innings this season that any other season in his career, and that isn't including the innings in the playoffs. I know for a fact his arm was shot, and is the reason he couldn't command anything the last month or so. He will dominate the first half just like last year. At the break see where the team is at. Hopefully they will be contending, but if not move him then and maximize the return. He is not as bad as he looked the last month. Look at his career stats.
  21. You sure sound like a Cards fan lately. We get it, you have posted this about 15 times today.
  22. Marcum is a very goodpitcher. He has just fallen apart the last month and a half. He pitched more innings this year than he ever has in his career, and that is before the postseason starts. The Suppan comments are completely unfair. I will be more than happy to see him with the Brewers next year when he is back to his 3.50 ERA ways. Look at his career stats and don't forget he posted the vast majoirty of his career numbers in the AL East. Last time I checked they have some good teams in that division. http://sports.yahoo.com/m...x35eoMn.eEckf0o_XP.FCLcF
  23. The only thing that will make me feel a little better is seeing the Cards get swept in the World Series. If they win the whole thing that will forever taint all the Brewers accomplished this season. Funny how such a great ride can end in a 50 car pile up.
  24. I would like to say that Hart swung at ball four a couple times in that AB, but the sad thing is those pitches would have been called strikes.
