  1. NO way.... Braun will be among the league leaders in intentional walks, even if he plays only 112 games
  2. Brewers need to be careful with their money with the payroll already over $100 million per the Brewers blog at MJS.... vs a projected budget of low $90's ....Mark A is obviously very loose with the purse-strings...... What would of been the odds, say 5 years ago, that the Brewers would have a higher payroll than the Braves? and by a lot ($90 vs $100)
  3. I'd keep Wolf for now.... If we're out of the pennant race then I'd consider peddling him for prospects near the trade deadline
  4. WHAT WOULD YOU DO IF YOU'RE THE RANGERS: * it seems a given that the Rangers will sign Darvish .....and for a lot of $$$$$$$ * Hamilton will be a free agent after this season (I think???) ....it sounds like it might come down to signing Prince or extending Hamilton....what would you do? Hamilton is the backbone of that team BUT he's injury prone partly do to the fact that he plays very hard & does reckless things like run into walls & catchers when it's not always necessary....IMHO the modern day Paul Molitor
  5. the Marlins clubhouse will be a Zoo with Ozzie, Zambrano & Ramirez...... can't wait for the dysfunctional bunch to have their first 5-game losing streak
  6. No way this team is a seller.....need to keep fannies in the seats to pay the bills More importantly, even without Braun for 50 games this team should be able to compete in a weak NL Central
  7. Braves can't afford Hart.... The only reason they're shopping Jurrjens is because he's projected to make $5.0mm to $5.5mm this season via arbitration and when you have Teheran, Delgado, Vizcaino & Medlen ready & waiting....now if the Brewers had a LF & 3B (think Mike Olt quality) prospects to offer then you'd get their attention you can call him overrated ....but I call a 25 year old with a career record of 50-33 3.40 pretty damn good
  8. might have to make do with current roster because the team has apparently maxed out their payroll budget......following is from mlbtraderumors.com on 12/13/11 The Brewers have already committed more than expected to the 2012 payroll, according to Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel (Twitter links). "We've stretched it well beyond where we wanted to go," Melvin said.
  9. the trade Axford idea shouldn't be dismissed.... 1) there's a reason he wasn't a can't miss prospect who fast-tracked to the majors.....what if he's the next Peter Ladd? 2) he's coming off a great season & he's cheap.....two reasons that he'd demand a boatload in return..... 3) If Texas offered Olt & Moreland (supposedly finally healthy & geared for a breakout season) I'd think very hard about that
  10. I"m surprised Tommy Harper's 1970 season wasn't higher....a 30-30 season in the pitching dominated era is impressive....and even more impressive when you consider that Harper had NO protection in that batting order (other than Danny Walton's amazing 1st half)
  11. SS ? ....no way ...the rap on Johnson in Atlanta was his stiff hands, he needs to play 2B (or 3B) where he can drop a ball but still pick it up & use his strong arm to throw someone out... not a luxury for a SS 3B? ...now you're getting closer.....at one point the Braves insiders thought KJ would play 2B until he would be needed to succeed Chipper at 3B looks like the Tigers will make a move on Johnson to be their 2B....
  12. the Braves beat writers swear Gonzalez deserved a Gold Glove .....IMHO his range is average but he know's how to compensate by positioning himself; and he makes all the routine plays.... get him out of spacious Turner Field & I could see him hit .240 with 20-25 homers at Miller Park.... the cat has a World Series ring & would be a great presence in the clubhouse
  13. Live in Madison & a life-long Badgers state boy.....it's been Milwaukee Braves (1a) & Brewers (1b) since 1969
  14. hahahahahahahaha good one Green for Drabek is simply laughable
  15. Gonzalez would be a solid fall-back option.... He deserved to win the Gold Glove this year...he had a bad year at the plate but I think he would do better in a park with shorter dimensions than the Ted in ATL....lots of warning track power in that park leads me to think he could still hit 20-25 homers in Milwaukee....and he knows how to win Gonzo made a reasonable $2.5 million in 2011 so he would be affordable
  16. Don Money for hitting coach? he's certainly paid his dues
  17. the Mets appear willing to deal Dan Murphy....not the sexy acquisition this board is drooling for but he's only 26, solid & affordable, and he can play the corner OF positions too
  18. I would keep Wolf 1) must build the team around the starting rotation 2) Wolf is underrated .. never underestimate the value of an innings-eater because they save your bullpen
  19. an interesting flyer would be Andrew Miller from the Red Sox....he's out of options & supposedly on the market.... deal for him & start him out in long relief....maybe by midseason he'll earn a better role such as setup man, the dude has the talent
  20. why not Gallardo at SS? .....he's a good hitter & that's all that mattershttp://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/eyes.gif
  21. I don't think the Brewers have the prospects to get Headley..... Reynolds seems like a more realistic target except for his salary
  22. Dodgers are spending a lot of money, especially since they're bankrupt
  23. I'm also surprised.....I'm a big Prado fan & IMHO his 2010 season was more represenatative of what he can do than 2011....I was never for the Uggla signing because that just didn't make sense with Prado coming off an all-star season at 2B Braves wouldn't do Hart for Minor so why would they do Hart for Prado?????? Makes no sense ...besides, the Brewers desparatly need Hart's bat in a Fielder-less lineup...
  24. you're missing the point....the Braves need money to cover salary increases for various players...for example, they want to extend Michael Bourne before he enters free agency after '12 not to mention his '11 salary increase....and they need to find a SS....and find an impact bat for LF if they don't move Prado
  25. re Prado for Hart....the chances of this is 0% .... 1) the Braves are putting Prado (and Jurrjens) on the trade market to CUT PAYROLL ....they need $$$$ to fill other needs 2) Prado is projected to earn in the neighborhood of $5 million in '12 ...... 3) as a Braves fan, Prado is only acceptable as an emegency OF ....his best position is 2B followed by 3B. .....IMHO he was did not throw very well for a LF in '11, partially because he still has an infielders throwing motion (much like Braun's 1st year in LF, but he has improved greatly since) 4) the Rockies are talking to the Braves about Prado.....potentially a much more realistic trading partner for the Braves
