* nice, easy delivery....and he uses his height & high release point to get good downward movement on his pitches.....like it! * that has to be a fast-gun....no way he's throwing 95 (and as someone said above he's not missing many bats), but I'd guess it's "easy" 91-93 & that's good enough given the downward bite in his fastball * that curveball needs a lot of work as someone mentioned above.... not much late bite ....but there's potential to make it a plus-pitch * location is good (generally hits the catchers target)

Jungmann is pitching on ESPN vs Arizona State in a College World Series Super Regional matchup.... NOW ....looked good in the 1st inning inducing all weak groundouts ....one was a 32-bouncer to the 2B for an infield hit... He looks very polished; the type of pitcher that should move very fast thru the Brewers system....throws "easy gas" with good downward movement....not a flamethrower but who cares because he locates his fastball & curve very well
forget SS & CF because there are bigger holes to fill.....the BULLPEN to build on Johnny Briggs thread about finding a southpaw for the pen, I say ditto that times- two.... Look at the teams & stars that are threats in the playoffs & find a way to nullify their advantages: * Reds & Phillies.....MUST stop those lefthanded bats in the late innings.....Bruce, Votto, Howard, Utley & Rollins (make him bat from the right).... need three lefthanded arms in the pen for the playoffs * "band box" ballparks (Miller Park, Reds & Phillies).....need a sinkerball (2-seam fastball) bullpen specialist who can induce double plays & keep the ball in the yard * the offense & bench look relatively good, just need to get Hart raking & then all will be fine
I'm old enough to remember when most games were 2:00 to 2:30 hours..... never going to grow the game, especially with the youths, until the time of play is shortened ....consistent enforcement of the strike zone would also help
* hard salary cap & legit revenue sharing* DH for the National League .....I don't like it but I accept that it's here to stay* eliminate salary arbitration* fix the draft a) world wide draft, b) reduce it to 15-20 rounds, c) slot the signing bonuses & teams are capped on total bonuses they can pay including non-drafted free agents* end the unbalanced schedule * make the games faster..... enforce the time-between-pitches rule...... shorten the time for television breaks between innings & pitching changes (new technology can be used to ensure advertisers get there time but some of it will be "during play")* no more than one off day during playoffs (make baseball the same game that's played during the regular season)* scorekeepers should be a professional position similar to umpires (currently some drunk slob from the media keeps score & "homer" decisions are insulting)
my brainstorming idea: 1) Free Agency compensation. Best explained by example.... lets say Fielder signs with the Angels.... Brewers select a player(s) from the Angels roster including their farm system (let the Angels protect a set number of players or prospects) ....there would be an interesting strategy: do you protect players or prospects? "5 & 10" players would be exempt.... 2) Reduce the draft to 15 rounds & would be expanded to include "World" prospects..... salary & signing bonuses would be "slotted" to stop the current "signability" joke that we currrently see & the manipulation of the draft system by super agents like Boras ..... 3) Allow draft choices to be traded....but you can't do this without #2 above
how does a pitcher like Beachy not even get drafted? ....he was signed by ATL as a non-drafted free agent in 2008 ....and for that matter, Tommy Hanson was a 22nd round draft choice.....
I like the current playoff format with 4 playoff teams...... HOWEVER: 1) way too many off-days during the playoffs......as a result you can win with only 3 good starters..... look at the Diamondbacks when they had Johnson & Schilling ....if the game is designed for 5 starters during the regular season it should be the same for the playoffs 2) having the all-star game winner get home field advantage in the World Series sucks..... 3) the unbalanced schedule is not fair because it's biased against a team that plays in the toughest division
as a Braves fan I'd do this trade in a second! I'd even do it if the Braves ate half of McLouth's salary McLouth can catch the ball in the OF but he doesn't have Gomez' range or arm (not even close in arm strength) .... I think McLouth turned around his hitting this spring but I still don't see him hitting more than .260 for the season but without power.... Why would the Brewers do this? Morgan is a better CF candidate than McLouth The Braves are deep in SS prospects but none are higher than AA (Tyler Pastornicky) ....might also make available some bullpen arms
I follow the Braves very closely & they loved Cain but Melvin insisted on Minor, who the Braves didn't want to part with.... I have no idea if Beachy was ever mentioned in a counter offer
Beachy did NOT have his best stuff per one of the Braves beat writer's (Dave O'Brien)....love the late movement in all three of his pitches the Braves have the ammo to trade Lowe or Jurrjens at the trade deadline for a righthanded bat (CF) ..... 20 year old RHP Julio Teheran (BA's top pitching prospect) is starting the season in AAA & Minor will join him after Wednesday's start....and they have two more Dominican pitching prospects that are rated higher than Beachy on the short track to Atlanta....and Medlen is expected back from TJ surgery after the all-start break agree with Johnny Briggs' statement above....plus it would of kept more $$$$$ in the bank to go out & buy a bat to fill the lineup
an amazing point about Beachy is that he was NOT drafted....he signed with the Braves as a non-drafted free agent.... just another example of the importance of scouting....AND player development
fwiw.... Brandon Beachy won the battle for the Braves' #5 starter.....the 24 year old rookie is having a fine spring: ERA=1.80 ... WHIP=0.80 ... K/9=9.00 ....the Braves optioned rookie southpaw Mike Minor to AAA-Gwinnett (to work on the consistency of his breaking stuff) I mention this because Melvin turned down the Braves trade offer of Beachy for Cain
actually, Narveson is a solid choice because the Braves lineup is stacked with lefties.....Braves will probably go with 4-lefties (McCann, Heyward, Freddie Freeman & McLouth) plus Chipper will hit from his weaker right side
