  1. I agree with this for the most part....but if MVS has a big break-out year, he's likely going to command quite a bit on the open market. St. Brown is just as talented, if not more so, but doesn't seem capable of putting it all together. But even if this group is together for the next couple of years, they're still missing that consistent slot threat opposite of Adams. A guy who can get open quick, makes guys miss in the open field. A traditional slot type WR'er. It's certainly not necessary as evidenced by Rodgers and this offense's output last season, but it could certainly help. Someone like Rondale Moore, though I do hope they don't spend a 1st on a WR'er. Too many bigger needs. If they sign someone like Curtis Samuel, that'd be even better. He offers a little bit of everything. He could take a few carries from the backfield, jet sweep, and he's improving as a WR'er.

  3. I could see Sternberger being used in more of an H-back-type role. But I think they want more of a traditional TE, someone who can be used as an inline blocker, and he's not very good there. He's gotta get a little thicker, especially his lower half. He looks more like a WR'er still. I'm thinking it's still more likely than not they bring Lewis back. As long as he wants to return, I don't see a good reason to not bring him back. He'd earn a bit more than he did last year and still count as a minimum contract against the cap.

  5. Olave? Did he change his mind? https://www.cbssports.com/college-football/news/ohio-state-star-wr-chris-olave-spurns-the-nfl-to-return-for-senior-season/ I don't think so, I just assumed he was going. OSU WR'er with a 2nd-day grade, maybe late 1st... Not sure he's going to be able to improve his draft stock a ton, but this is a pretty deep class at two needs, WR'er and OT.

  7. Agreed. Tonyan T-Type TE. I think them picking up a TE, if they do, will have more to do with Sternberger's lack of progress and the possibility they lose Lewis this off-season. Ideally, they'd want a polished blocker first. There's also the fact that they love two TE formations. So even if they were comfortable that Sternberger would progress, he's not a very good blocker. So he and Tonyan are a bit too similar. They need that TE who can stay in and help. I think the Packers could bring Mercedes Lewis back for the 2.4 million dollars that the new CBA allows to count just 950K or so against the cap and still try and pick another one up even while they return Deguara and maybe even Daffney. They could have 6 FB/H-back/TE's on the roster. As you said, MLF likes a versatile, flexible scheme.

  9. It isn't where there are drafted, but the talent level and ability to get open on their own. MVS had games where he was a legit starting WR anywhere in the league, but more games where he had no effect. And all of his routes take time because it is all predicated on speed. Lazard has a chance at being a solid #2 and has shown that for several games in a row, but then gets injured and comes back less reliable. There are few teams in the league where either of these two would start. St Brown and Funchess are clear backups at this point. Funchess would probably be signed by someone if we cut him, but he was available for pretty cheap when we got him. St. Brown has size and speed, but shown pretty much nothing on the field. Do we make the team work? Yes. But it wouldn't take much to upgrade the group also. Getting a Randall Cobb or Gregg Jennings type player (game predicated on route running and footwork rather than speed) would be very helpful to balance with the team to have guys getting open for shorter routes. Greg Jennings was a pretty underrated WR'er. In part because of how he left GB and where he went, but he was a very good route runner and he was just so smooth. Running routes, catching the ball, YAC yards...a WR'er who could play a similar role to him would be a perfect fit. I think we could get by with Adams, Lazard, MVS, St. Brown, Funchess again, but someone like Sage Surratt in the late 2nd or 3rd round...could play a pretty big role as a rookie. I think he's a Cooper Kupp type WR'er. But the guy who most reminds me of Jennings(of those I've seen) is Chris Olave from Ohio State. Year after year they have stud WR'ers fall...in large part due to the talent they've got. Terry McClaurin, Michael Thomas, Curtis Samuel, KJ Hill...talented WR'ers who weren't 1st round picks. I think there is a good chance he'll be there when we pick in the 2nd round, so that'd definitely provide some help for Rodgers. My first 3 rounds 1-Trade up for Darrisaw or Jenkins at OT. 2-Chris Olave WR'er OHIO 3-Marvin Wilson DL FSU Get your OT, a WR'er and a DL. I see some people have Wilson as a 1st...but that was based on hype from 2019. He struggled last year and he's not a great athlete...but he is a smart player who plays hard. Relentless motor and I think he could develop similar to how Daniels did for the Packers.

  11. I wouldn't trust that site too much. Neither Roger McCreary nor Zamir White nor Tyler Vrabel declared for the draft, and Ronnie Perkins will long gone by day 3. That...and they have Leatherwood as a Tackle. That's very unlikely at the next level. I also think it's more likely the Packers use their 10 picks and move up in the draft, not down. If there's one trend we can glean thus far from Gutey, it's that he likes going up and getting his guy in the 1st round. One players I'd LOVE to see the Packers target...Justyn Ross, Clemson. He was considered a top 5 pick at WR'er, but had neck surgery, missed all last year(though he was cleared for contact toward the end of the year). He's an elite talent with huge red flags. Some teams will take him off their board, but if he's healthy...as his Doctors have said, he has All-Pro upside. I've said before, this draft is going to be a tough one for front offices and scouts. So many guys opted out, there could be a disproportionate number of players who fall into the middle rounds who end up having really successful careers.
  12. I guess we'll never really know whether it truly was timing & the Packers' cap or whether it was a true lack of legitimate interest (or, interest at FMV). Would a different year have allowed the Packers to potentially make a more competitive offer? Absolutely. Would they have? Who knows.... This is true. We don't really have enough insight into how Gutey operates to have a real idea of how he operates. And it was tough negotiating with Watt without knowing what the actual cap will be. But this could open the door for several smaller moves. I'm thinking Shelby Harris, Curtis Samuel/Cordarrelle Patterson, and Ronald Darby. Three guys who should be relatively affordable. Harris has been an under-the-radar type guy for years. And you're also bringing a Wisconsin boy back home...and arguably one who was better last year. 3/24 12 million SB, 1 million base in year 1. ~5 million cap hit. Samuel or Patterson can stretch the field can they can play the Tyler Ervin role and return kicks. Samuel 3/18 ~4 cap hit. Ronald Darby-He's better in man coverage fits the scheme(provided it's similar to last years scheme) and he should be cheap-ish. With 10 draft picks, I'm guessing Gutey does what he has just about every year and moves up in the first round and try and find an OT. Darrisaw would be the ideal fit, but that's probably a stretch. But if he does fall to 20...it's certainly feasible. This really sucks, but time to turn to the upside...which again, is the fact that there will be a lot of bargains available on the market this year. Shelby Harris, outside of JJ or Leonard Williams, might be one of the best fits for this defense, so onto Shelby watch!
  13. Yeah, I was going to mention the Buccs as well, but I understood the point he was making. That said, the Buccs were 7-9 with a QB who averaged nearly 3 Turnovers a GAME in that 7-9 year. Their defense was very good(though not in PPG against as they gave up a lot after Winston's turnovers). In fact, I believe their defense was among the top-ranked according to DVOA in 2019 and they were the #1 defense over the last ~8 games that year. Plus, they had two elite WR'ers, edge rushes...and a lot of core players in place. I don't think AZ is primed to make any type of jump like that. They've got too many holes. And...as I said, I don't think Kyler Murray is that good. Defenses were starting to figure him out. Use a spy, stay in your lands and get your hands up. He had a big problem with batted balls last year.
  14. The timing was right...the Packers status and Watt's status, also both right. The fit was right. I guess it just comes down to what the Packers offered. They could never have done the 2 years 31 million(I'm being hyperbolic, but it would have been very hard and would have required them to push away too much money down the road). The 4-5 year deal probably ends up paying Watt just as much, and I'd tend to believe the Packers made a competitive offer for Watt, but they wanted a longer contract and maybe less guaranteed. Watt had a relationship with Vance Joseph and D-Hop. Can't blame Gute for this. 2/31 was just pushing an already precarious salary cap situation too far.
  15. If you can truly get a 2nd round pick for Jones, that is a massive no brainer. I would be happy with a 3rd however. It is likely they would get a 4th round comp pick if they let him go in free agency. Sure. I love Jones and what he does for this offense, but that pick could be Etienne. 4 more years of a really good back and move on again. I'm a little skeptical you could get a 2nd for him though. Teams don't like to part with early picks. You're going to give up a 2nd for the right to pay a RB? I hope it's true though. I'd trade him for a 2nd or a 3rd I think, otherwise, bring him back on the tag if that works out with the cap. I have no idea who else the Packers may want to target.
  16. I totally agree. If someone like Darrisaw is on the board around 20, I could see the Packers going up and getting him. Someone who could start the next 10 years at RT..but can also play LT. I don't like Leatherwood as a Tackle though. I think he could be a Gabe Jackson type of guard, but not a starter in the NFL at Tackle. Mayfield is very similar to Byan Bulaga...Iowa. And the more I read about Jenkins, the better he sounds. Spencer Brown though. Just throwing his name in there. If the Packers were to trade back...which I'm kinda skeptical they'll do with 10 picks, but lets say they do, that's a guy I'd target in the 2nd.
  17. Yep. There was never any chance they could squeeze that into a 2-year deal. It sucks as Watt would have been perfect a lot of reasons. Among them, they'd still be able to get comp picks next year. I thought the longer it went that Watt hadn't signed meant the better our chances were with the Browns and Steelers dropping out. AZ makes very little sense, but they do have one elite edge rusher they can pair him with. I don't believe in their Tiny Little QB, but, it's over now. Just trade Josh Hader ow and this forum will slow to a crawl for the next few weeks!
  18. I don't blame him for taking all the money he can. I honestly don't think most adults would. Get paid, you only have a short time to play the game. And who knows what he wants to do at the end of it. But right, don't whine if you're not competitive next season.
  19. The Packers can't afford this deal, but that doesn't mean we have to try and paint Watt as less than he is. 2 of those five years were 4 and 5 years ago. He's missed 8 games the last 3 years, all the same year and it was a fluke muscle injury He played 90+ pct of the snaps in the other two seasons and he's still one of the top 3-4 DL in the NFL. We couldn't make that money work on that short of a deal, so there's that.
  20. +7.5, 3 points per game better than Brooklyn, the #2 team.
  21. That's great to see. Still confusing why he ever changed his stroke as it looked so much better as a rookie. That guy looked like he could develop into a real threat from 3, but still, hitting ~75 pct from the FT line the last month is big for him.
  22. I don't think they took it too seriously they just over reacted. Taking it seriously would have been suspending him and not doing what they did. This wasn't taking the accusation seriously this was just UW looking more at the optical social media rage which is 90% of the time just a mob of lunatics that know absolutely nothing about anything but claim to know everything about anything. UW took the social media mob lunatics too seriously and not the accusation. Probably not the best choice of words on my part, but I agree.
  23. How does that argue in favor of Hader who's regressed the last couple years? If you want to argue that last year should be thrown out, fine. Most people agree statistical outliers from last year or small sample sizes shouldn't be a significant factor in how you value a player. But why does the argument that the ball was "deadened" help the argument that Hader is worth more in his worst season?
  24. UW is in a bit of a difficult spot here. If they 'just' suspend him from the team and school, then they're accused of not taking it seriously. I get why Cephus is doing this, but I can't say I really blame the University. That's is an incredibly powerful accusation, and they're now being sued for taking it too seriously. Good to see Cephus doing well in Detriot though.
  25. Playing the semifinals and final on the same day is up there with the dumbest things the WIAA ever did. Watching kids gassed in the finals is brutal. It’s the biggest games of their lives and your asking kids to play 70+ minutes of high intensity basketball in a day. They are High School kids. If you can't play two games in one day, you really don't deserve a State Title. HS Sports are different this year. Everyone has had to adjust. Other sports have had to have athletes compete multiple times in the day to win a State Title this year as well.
