  1. This is easily the most obvious. I also think they'll work something out with regard to the Cap so teams have a little more freedom this year. Teams were planning on the Cap jumping to ~240 or even 250 next year and teams spent accordingly.
  2. Does Preston Smith have trade value? Assuming the Packers eat the amortized signing bonus at the time of trade, his contract becomes a bit more palatable to a team who potentially trades for him. They structured Preston's deal a bit odd in the fact that he received a relatively low signing bonus relative to his base salaries in the back end of the deal. You'd have to bank on a team thinking that even with the Packers eating the pro-rated signing bonus, that he's worth a $12m cap hit in 2021 and a $12.5 mil cap hit in 2022. His drop off this year has been fairly huge thus far, so it remains to be seen whether that's a 4-game anomaly or the start of a downward trend. A LOT of it has been how he's been used. I've never seen Pettine drop a OLB'er in coverage more than he has Preston Smith this year.
  3. Here's why I'm still nervous (and I hope someone can tell me why I'm wrong): Last year the 49ers had a very successful game plan to not only win, but to completely dominate GB. Essentially, they ran it down our throats at will. Did the Packers improve from last season? Absolutely! Even without any WRs, this might be the best offense in the league. That being said, one of the most effective ways to neutralize a prolific offense is to control time of possession by running the ball. If we have not improved at stopping the run our other improvements on the offensive end can be limited. I don't think anyone can. If they sign Harrison and if he plays like he has...that might eliminate that area of weakness, but I don't think we can fix the run D in house. There is still a trade deadline as well.
  4. I'd guess they'd just add a quarter of the scholarships and then roll it back over the next 2-3 years. I don't know if that's what they'll do, but...if they're saying this year doesn't count against their eligibility...it only seems logical(though I know I'm talking about the NCAA). You don't want to take away chances from kids in HS right now who are already potentially losing chances by not being able to play or go to the camps they normally would have. There are a lot of kids who go under the radar and only get one scholarship as is.
  5. Of course he made the right decision, but as a hypothetical, it's kinda fun to think about Taylor. He's ~1000 yards behind Dayne. He'd have easily gotten that if healthy this year. And then next year just based on his average, you'd have to think 2000. But of course, going pro now was the obvious choice. He has almost 1,000 more yards than any other back who only played 3years.
  6. The Vikings basically received a 1st, 4th, and 5th for Diggs (after netting out a few late round picks). Which was a little surprising given that he was clearly on the outs with the Vikings. If you had reversed those two trades, it probably would've been more logical for value and situation. I honestly would have thought a 28 year old, obvious future HOF WR'er on a very favorable deal would have gotten them 2 firsts from a good team and 1+(like a 3rd and 5th) from a team projected to be below .500. I get the Packers knew better about our WR'ers and they loved-Love, but there's no way Houston shopped D-hop around. With Gutey's desire to get another good receiver(he tried to sign Allan Robinson, went after Hooper, signed Jimmy G, tried to trade for a couple different guys and tried to sign a few different guys) if you said you could get the best in the NFL and a flawless route runner with probably the best hands in the game, he's giving up a 1st and a couple picks IMO. These trades have to be done through relationships. Calais Campbell isn't on the same level, but he's a 6'8 stud 3-4 DL who has 90 sacks(30 the last three years) who's a stud vs the run and obviously rushing the passer. And he goes for a 5th? I know Pro-Bowlers are routinely traded for relatively low draft picks, but it just baffles my mind how some of these players are traded for so little. Hypothetical-Texans know their season isn't looking great, Watt is getting older and they're going to need to do a mini-rebuild. What would you give up for him? A 2nd? A 3rd? You'd have to create cap space(though you could easily extend him and cut his cap number). I know it's not going to happen right now, but JJ's the kinda guy who just as a player doesn't have a ton of value, is getting older and is expensive in Houston, but could turn the Packers D from an average Defense to a dominant one. And I do think GB is the only other place he'd probably want to play(Maybe Pitt with his brother, but they really don't need him).
  7. Especially with the premise that teams are up and down. A 1st place schedule is a couple game difference and from year to year it can be easier than a 2nd or 3rd place finish depending on the division. Are the Packers better or worse for having to play SF and Philly vs the Vikes having to play Seattle and Dallas? It's a tossup and I don't think it makes much of a difference.
  8. Well it's hard to blame Bill O'Brien for struggling in Houston when his GM keeps handcuffing him. How much buyer’s remorse do you think team leadership had on that promotion? “He’s won us four division titles, I’m sure he can handle the personnel side just fine. What could possibly go wro....” [O’Brien makes two franchise-crippling trades within months of taking over the personnel side] “Oh.” I can't imagine. He destroyed that franchise. Someone tweeted out the four significant trades he made and it was just awful. He justified trading a 2nd for Cooks by saying this year was going to be a "veteran kind of year" so he wanted vets over picks. So I'd love to hear the justification for trading Hopkins. They gave Cobb 3/27 and guaranteed him 18 million and they're paying Cooks about what Hopkins was set to make this year. I feel bad for Watson. Three great young QB's in the AFC and the Ravens and Chiefs seem to be doing everything right while his team was loaded and they've done just about everything wrong.
  9. That hurts. I think. They seem to have a pretty good idea of what's going on and they liked him, so...I guess Lovett will have to be the guy the rest of this year. Hopefully, he's back in year 2. I just know this is going to lead to MORE people complaining about the draft though(not on this board...)
  10. I'm always open to moving a player for the right price,; in this case you'd have to get back more than the #26 pick that you put into him. I can't see this actually happening for several reasons, though. A team that needs a QB now at mid-season 2020 isn't looking for a Jordan Love. He's not NFL-ready, he's not even our backup QB. He's not going anywhere and helping someone else in a new system win in Week 10 of this season. Love has always been a 2 to 3 year project and still is. He's more likely to be dealt in the off-season, but even then I have a hard time seeing it happen. Even if WE believe he is in a much better spot after 1 year, how is any other GM going to know that enough to compensate properly for him? It's possible Love gets dealt in 2 to 3 years if Rodgers is still playing at a very high level and showing no signs of decline. You'd be hard pressed to recoup his value though after 2 to 3 years of no game action for anyone to go off of. But no one would want him now for a win now move. Agree on all counts. Love was so clearly a guy who was at least a 2 year project. I wish people would just forget about Jordan Love for a while. Even as the Packers are dominating, the success is far too often attributed to Jordan Love being picked and "lighting a fire" under Rodgers(because the mild mannered Rodgers wasn't competitive enough without said pick) or the "imagine how they'd look if they'd used that pick on a DL." In the end, if Rodgers is playing great in 3 years and Love has looked really good, I think he gets traded like Jimmy G did. But even that it's taking for granted that Rodgers continues playing THIS good and Love develops. But since it was just a hypothetical, I'd trade Love for a really good young player or a 1st rounder in next years draft from a team that was below .500 halfway through the year. Especially since Jordan Love damn sure wouldn't help them win games this year.
  11. He was beaten badly on the 4th down play on the goal line I believe. Just went back and looked at that play because I thought the penetration came from the right side, but it was Jenkins. It was Takkarist McKliney...he jumped inside and blew the play up. Pretty good play and it's why I don't really like when they lineup in the shotgun down there. It feels like you're giving the defense a much better idea where the balls coming. It's going to be inside zone if they run it.
  12. Grady Jarrett is a pretty damn good Dlineman - don't think he lined up in front of Jenkins exclusively last night but I'm sure some of those mishaps by Jenkins were related to Jarrett either beating him or disrupting a play where it put Jenkins a little out of position when he was blocking someone else. Plus, there was at least one very questionable holding call on Jenkins where it was more like he just flat out dominated whoever he was blocking. I didn't really notice Jenkins getting beat(as someone else mentioned, it's so hard to actually watch the OL unless the they're running it right at a guy or you get a good replay) but this is a good point. Grady Jarrett is probably one of the top 5 interior DL. Maybe the 2nd best and a guy who'd be even more well known if Donald wasn't THAT much better than anyone else like JJ Watt was for a 5-6 year stretch.
  13. I wouldn't. I want to see this offense against a decimated Niner defense. If it means going to the SB, sure. But to test how we grown... I think this team can match up - despite minimal personnel changes- better than last year. To test us? Sure. The 49'ers would be just about perfect since they run the same offense...which their D practices against. If they couldn't stop us. if they were healthy, who can? Maybe Baltimore? And it'd give our defense a REAL test. I don't think our run defense has improved and I don't know if they're gonna go out and get a Damon Harrison or a Marcell Dareus...or whoever. Wynn likey isn't going to be enough.
  14. He’s a Cowboy, I think? And he's gonna be the comeback player of the year. 5 years out of the league and he's the Cowboys best pass rusher. Still a shame. That guy had legit HOF talent and his issues cost him his prime. As for Preston Smith, I think he'll get going. He hasn't had the impact plays, but he's a steady player, good vs the run. I hope the front office doesn't get complacent though, this team is still seriously lacking on the DL. They need more than Clark and Keke if they're gonna be able to get Rodgers a 2nd ring.
  15. Yeah, and the biggest culprit this year is Za'Darius. People have their opinions on Capers, but the thing he had guys doing up front was maintaining gap integrity. Z shoots inside like Clay used to a lot, but the DL are terrible at it. Clark is as well when he plays, he just abuses the centers so badly that he can break up a play. That front 5 is still a bit of a concern, but Keke's been coming along, so....
  16. I wasn't so sure initially but certainly makes the decision to sit Adams look really smart now. It definitely does now. I wasn't so convinced that MLF would be able to get guys so wide open with his top 2 targets out. The Packers got Rodgers the biggest weapon he could have asked for when they hired MLF a couple years ago...
  17. Yeah, lets let Rodgers go out there and get his 5th...keep pace with Wilson, Allen and company and then let Dillon finish it. But we do need a stop. I don't want to see the Falcons flip the script and instead of blowing a big lead, come back from a large deficit.
  18. Is it safe to say that we hired the right guy to run our offense just yet? Or will Rodgers, the primma donna he is, be too stuck in his ways and refuse to change? Nah, I'm with Skip Bayless, poor Matt LaFleur has no chance. Rodgers is going to run right over him!!!
  19. Ahem.... Did you predict Tonyan would be a good TE, I'm not sure? Hey...I predict a lot of guys are gonna be good, so when I get one right I uhh...gotta let everyone hear about it!
  20. Ahem.... Seems like tight ends always take a couple years to really blossom. Well...WR'ers also. Really any position. But especially a guy who's moved all around. The fact that he did a sumersault and then got back up and scored was pretty cool! He just moves well for a TE. This scheme though...man, it's fun watching guys get open without having to just beat their man and have Rodgers put the ball right on their back shoulder.
  21. Hot take- I think they knowingly took three guys that they knew wouldn’t contribute much this year but would dominate next year. I've had this thought myself. You can't pay everyone. Well...most rookies don't play a very big role as a rookie, but I do think we'll see more of Dillon as the season goes on. Maybe even after the bye. But they also likely didn't see Jamal Williams big jump from even last year to this year coming. Love was obviously not going to have an impact this year(unless things went VERY badly).
  22. That'll do it. BIG.....BOB....TONYYYYYYAAAAAAAAAANNNNNNNNN!!!!! Now you're on my bandwagon! Grand Master B with the TD! It just so seldom happens when they've got a guy with a lot of talent and he puts it all together...it's so much fun when it clicks! Now I just need Raven Greene to turn into Jamal Adams and Yosh to turn into Ogden and I'll be happy! But....I'm keeping Tonyan. You get Keke...I'm keeping big BOB!!!!
  23. This is what Rodgers was talking about when he watched I think it was the Rams(or 49'ers) and he said something about wanting a more creative offense. Well...when you're getting Malik Taylor wide open on what looks like your 1st read on a 4th and 2....I'd say Matt LaFleur has made Aaron Rodgers wishes come true!
  24. That'll do it. BIG.....BOB....TONYYYYYYAAAAAAAAAANNNNNNNNN!!!!!
