  1. And Nelson was particularly sure handed and very good at fielding onside kicks. All Bostic had to do was put a body on his guy and that game's over. It was a unique kick in the Atl-Dallas game. That was a smart move by Dallas to give ATL a different look. No tee, just kick it off the turf and put a different spin on it. Still inexcusable for Atlanta, but I'm sure if one of the guys who was told to block on that play decided instead to try and pick it up...didn't field it cleanly, people would have jumped all over them as well. It was a stupid play, but not Leon Lett stupid.
  2. The best RB in Bears history! My Grandparents went to Packers games their whole lives and my Grandma had season tickets since the 60's. She HATED the Bears...but loved Gail Sayers. This was a women who I vividly remembering would wish for the 90's Cowboy stars to get hurt. Though she'd clarify, she didn't want to see career ending injuries...just season enders. She did have a heart after all! But yeah, she was always a Sayers fan and said he was one of the nicest guys she's ever watched. Never thought to ask when she was alive how she knew that since I believe he came along long after her Dad stopped working at the stadium(he did the scoreboard). Must have just been from his interviews. RIP the Kansas Commet.
  3. I'm pretty sure if a guy has an illness that prevents them from competing, they'll allow him to stay on scholarship, but not count against the scholarship limit for the team. Wisconsin definitely used to do this and I doubt they'd have stopped. Otherwise it's possible they didn't renew his scholarship and he lost it. A lot of Colleges will do this when someone gets injured. I think most Colleges will honor the scholarship provided the injury happened while competing or the illness is something they couldn't have prevented.
  4. The question isn't do the Brewers need Hiura to be better because others are struggling, the question is about Hiura alone. And Castro has played in 16 games and has 60 AB's(63 PA's). Here's the bottom line, he's just turned 24 and even during his struggles in his 2nd year, he's performing alright relative to the average 2nd basemen. That's the point. Not that we brought him in to be average or to compensate for a lack of production from 3rd base. It's about how concerning are his struggles this year. That's where the historically bad numbers, his age and experience come into play. It's got nothing to do with trying to put a positive "spin" on his strikeouts, but rather evaluating how worried people should be about his ability to hit.
  5. Kinda goes back to that "one death is a tragedy," line of thinking. This has become so political that people have become pretty callous when discussing the topic....unless it impacts them. The good news it is SEEMS as though Doctors are doing a better job of treating this, reacting more quickly, they're lowering the mortality rate(according to some studies) when compared with cases from March and April.
  6. They both have the cap space I believe. Or are close enough to creating it without much trouble. Them and the Raptors..which is why they are the three main teams realistically talked about signing Giannis in Free Agency.
  7. Zero chance unless Giannis is involved. I don't think he was seriously suggesting we try and trade for Herro.
  8. Thanks! They have been added to the initial post in this thread (with links). David Hamilton is 17-for-17 in stolen base attempts! Guess that torn right achiles surgery (January 2019) that prevented Hamilton's debut with the Brewers from happening that year was successful. The Crew took him in the 8th round out of the University of Texas. That was an awesome signing. Obviously...he's a ways away, but I love the Brewers taking risks and going after talent in spite of injury concerns. Sometimes it doesn't work out...Kirby, sometimes it does. Although, I don't actually know that it hasn't worked out with Kirby.
  9. I wasn't saying he was swinging too hard, just that he was pressing and swinging and missing too much. You start pressing, you're guessing on pitches, overthinking...it's baseball. It's how Christian Yelich can be on his way to his 2nd MVP and a year later he's finishing a "season" with an average over 100 points lower and his OPS is almost 300 points lower. I thought this kid was capable of hitting early in his career...and he's proven he can. But now he's struggling. I think he'll settle in and be fine.
  10. Why can't his motion be replicated? Seems that's what makes him so effective. He's got what appears to be a clean delivery and the same delivery for the change and the FB.
  11. Doesn't that describe 95% of MLB? I can't believe we're even having this discussion. Yes, he's struggling right now. He also was a high draft pick, a highly ranked prospect, and demolished college and minor league pitching. Sure, he could be a total bust but he hasn't even played the equivalent of a full 162 game season in his career yet. Yeah, I don't really see it either. He's struggled in 2 months and has just turned 24. Seems like you'd only be concerned if you actually thought he'd be Ryan Braun and skate through and continue to post an OPS+ of ~140 without any hiccups. It's Baseball...he's a young kid who's obviously pressing and swinging and missing too much. He should be fine.
  12. I think many saw him as the second coming of Braun with his bat. I think they’ll be sorely disappointed. He just turned 24 and he's posted a 269/.344/.519 line at 2nd base with an OPS+ of 124 in his first 137 games. I'd say he's doing just fine. Not everyone who thought he'd be a really good young middle of the order hitter is a simple as you're inferring. I don't know who thought he'd be "the second coming" of the last star the Brewers developed from within, but it's pretty reasonable to have very high expectations of him.
  13. He was a 22 year old rookie last year who hit .300 and put up a .939 OPS....and he was an elite prospect with an advanced bat. I'd guess most people who read his scouting reports that raved about his hit tool didn't expect that he'd lead the league in strikeouts and were hoping that while he may regress as his BABIP leveled out, he'd still hit for contact like he always had...pretty logical assumptions given his background. Hiura should not be leading the league in strikeouts. He shouldn't be striking out ~35 pct of the time with his bat speed and hit tool.
  14. Yeah, I even went and looked up the game in '14 and it still doesn't ring a bell. I might have gone to it. Honestly games that I go to I don't remember the specifics as well as the games I watch at home. The game in 2010 was especially memorable to me. Flynn playing and really needing that game(though Jackson's return in the Eagles-Giants game did make it so we could lose that one). I guess it wasn't just the game, but everything surrounding it. Coughlin losing his mind on that punter, the Packers run...etc...etc...
  15. And the Falcons were apparently the best team at defending the onside kick and recovering onside kicks the past couple years? Seems like a pretty small sample size, but apparently they spend an inordinate amount of time on onside kicks. Just the Falcons being the Falcons. It's starting to be a thing. Really time for Quinn to move on. I don't even know if it's his fault, but they're becoming that team that finds a way to lose.
  16. I get what you're saying, but they're very different players. Brees NEVER had a big arm and Brady always had a strong enough arm, but never anywhere near the arm talent Rodgers has. I don't think Rodgers is going to decline like those two have. But even if he DID follow Brady's trajectory; Brady 37-SB win 38-Lost 20-18 to SB champs Denver 39-SB win vs ATL. Historic comeback. 40-SB loss to Philly(never punted) 505 yards and 3 TD's for Brady 41-SB Win vs Rams 42-Lost in WC game .....I'd certainly take that! Obviously that's unlikely, but I also don't think this Rodgers trade is anywhere near as inevitable as many others do. In order for the Packers to trade Rodgers, a couple of things would have to happen. The Packers would have to be heading in the wrong direction as a team...Rodgers play would have to have seen a sharp decline, and in both scenario's, I think they'd have to be convinced Love had developed into the player they'd hoped he'd become. The Packers certainly don't appear to be headed in the wrong direction. Rodgers looks like a new QB this year in the 2nd year of the Shannahan/LaFleur system, and Rodgers is stepping into throws and not missing guys and throwing off his back foot and like Favre, he'll probably have enough arm strength to stretch the field into his 50's. So I think it's a very real possibility that the Packers could have Love play out his entire rookie deal backing up Rodgers. Of course all of this is based on the idea that Rodgers doesn't get injured and that during that injury Love doesn't come in and play great.
  17. I caught that. Rodgers made some comments that I'm sure people will dig through, but the one I found...interesting or positive was when he was asked if he has a different attitude this year(something to that affect) and he said he had. That in the past few months, he'd made some changes...that he was happy, how important it was for him to be around people he loved and good friends, and that he was having more fun playing Football. I thought all along we'd struggle on offense last year and then be better this year. I did NOT see Aaron Rodgers resurgence. I was happy with him being a top ~5 QB that didn't have a ton of weapons on offense. It's been a lot of fun to see Rodgers so accurate, to see these guys getting separation. MVS in particular, and to see this OL dominate the LOS. I think the only reason people are so vocal about the DL and the urgency to address their depth along the DL is directly due to how talented this offense looks and how special they COULD be.
  18. Yeah, Brees is similar to Brady at this point. Neither have the arm strength to really take advantage of their weapons and push the ball down the field. This should help the Packers defense. They should play a lot of man and be able to pressure him. Our safeties need to really step up though. Savage hasn't played great yet and Amos has been...meh. Having Armstead and Ramcyk at the two tackle positions should give him time. If Thomas is out...that's a big game changer as well.
  19. Yeah, that's a fools errand. Trying to figure out what the hell is going on in Jax? They had a REALLY good young core just a few years ago. They're obviously trying to rebuild with Trevor Lawrence or Justin Fields(though this could be another Eli/Elway type year where the stud forces his way out).
  20. Damn...hard to pass up Evans, but Fournette's a stud who's just getting comfortable. I'd have taken that, but I'll bet that ends up pretty close by the end of the year.
  21. And, the 49'ers have to play on the same field that took out two of their starting DL with ACL injuries(I assume Thomas has a torn ACL as well). A field they blamed for the injuries. SF couldn't have had a much worse first two weeks. Bosa, Thomas, Jimmy G, Mossert, Sherman,...and on and on...all down with injuries already.
  22. It's been reported(presumably by Harrison's team) that the Packers made an offer, but they did not feel it was a "competitive offer." I think everyone knows it's not as simple as "if he wanted to be a Packer, he'd be a Packer." "Competitive" is also subjective. I mean, he's not playing anywhere else, either, which tells me that his opinion of his value is higher than the league's opinion of it. But in the end, yeah, it is that simple. If he wanted to be playing football (for the Packers, or likely one of many teams) he'd be playing. Yeah, it's obviously subjective. I don't pretend to know what they offered or how much he wants to play here. Do you believe that the case with...Clay for example? He just doesn't want to play for the teams that have asked him? That's pretty flawed IMO. If you don't agree to play for what they initially offer, that means you just don't want to play for that team?
  23. I think they ARE getting steamrolled. They Lions were just running at them at will early yesterday. I thought the Lions did us a big favor when they started to come out on 1st downs throwing the ball(up 14-10 or within a score). We're fine when they throw the ball. Still not playing great, but we look good enough and there's obvious room for growth. When their OL is blowing our DL off the ball...then it's obvious nothing has changed from last year. They're bad up front with Clark, they're brutal without him. But I do think that Gute will address that. He may not do it with a guy we've all heard of(though maybe he will). But at some point...
  24. On a side note...I'm pretty sure Bill O'Brien watched as people talked about Matt Millen being one of the most destructive coaches/executives for a franchise in recent history and got a little jealous. Aside from the horrific trades and signings, he's not much better as a coach. 4th and 1 from his own 34 early in the 1st quarter and he goes for it today leading to a Balt TD in what was a pretty close game.
  25. Yeah, if I was in College, I'd definitely be one of those idiots who was throwing a party getting half the athletes sick. One of the reasons I'm not actually against the B10 playing this year. Those kids are actually safer and monitored far more closely than if they weren't playing. They're watching their symptoms, checking their hearts regularly if they test positive. But I just can't imagine how this works out like it is in the NFL or MLB.
