  1. should be a good game for Braun. I mean, he's dipped into the .330's, and it's time to make a statement!
  2. yeah, and what happened with Gwynn was natural? no, it was a bad knee, lots of food, and genetics. I'm 26, and my body shape has changed dramatically since I was 18. I'm sure most here agree that bodies change. What's crazy is that people seem to think McGwire and Bonds were products of steroids. McGwire was the alltime homer leader at USC, and Bonds was looking like a Hall of Famer when he first signed with the Giants. His homer binge of late is also a product of him not trying as hard in the field, which has resulted in none of the injuries that plagued him in his 30s.
  3. well, that was one short benching for weeks. it's no benching. It's simply shifting him from full-time starter to part of the rotation at 2b. It makes sense to play him tonight against a tough lefty.
  4. remember, our owner is a prominant senator. I'm fairly sure that simply on principle, he won't allow Yi, China, or anyone else to tell his Bucks to deal the player.
  5. I would imagine Miller starts today, Estrada for the day game. That has the advantage of giving Miller AB's vs a lefty and gives Johnny basically two days off
  6. The Brewers will have plenty in the budget to keep him. They should pursue signing him. Although Benny will be at an age where he'll likely want that one huge contract that most guys desire. I could see 4 years, $50 million as the hometeam discount. But he's better than Zito, only less durable. So his price could be scary
  7. not sure what you mean. He's the same manager. He has been going out and yelling at Vargas all year when he starts pitching like this. He did it to Villanueva a few times, too. It's really the same guy, just all season he's been saying that it's different since this is a playoff chase...so it's time for results, not developing players.
  8. It'll be interesting to see if Brantley starts playing some CF now. Good speed and defense, and it'd be nice to start working him at all 3 OF spots, in addition to an occasional day at 1b.
  9. wow, I'm starting to have visions of a sweep. Davis vs Cappy could be scary for the bullpens. And it's hard to get nervous on Thursday with Yo out there
  10. man, Drew and Montero back to back...I feel like I'm back in the AFL. And Slaten pitched, too. I like seeing Balfour up...nice to see someone capable of getting a K in the pen, besides Tbow and Cordero
  11. i don't feel good about this Drew at bat
  12. I like seeing them stick with Villanueva. That walk simply sets up the DP.
  13. Bruce- Not to get you worried, but today Melvin tried to ford the Snake River, and his freaking oxen died. As long as he has bullets, he can survive a few weeks till he can buy some oxen, then he can move at a strenuous pace
  14. man, surprising to hear Sutton daring Pena to throw fastballs to Jenkins. The guy has never been good against changeups or curves. So after three changeups, Pena shook his head, sided with Sutton on a heater, and it's a double.
  15. nice outing for Will. A quick look at his game log shows that if you eliminate his two bad starts, his ERA is around 3. So it's heavily inflated from those 2 outings when he was sick.
  16. what sucks is that I have two job interviews on Thursday. So I'll have to TiVo the game...can I TiVo the Woot-off?
  17. With a slumping Jenkins and Gwynn batting behind you, I can understand why. rluz, just seems curious, as you normally don't go pointing out slumps. Just wishing we had another option to ride a hot hand? Also, with Claudio at 62 pitches, man I could see us needing Parra in the 5th. Sadly, a friend told me he'd be there, and I predicted we'd see both Balfour and Parra tonight.
  18. any trade with the Dbacks should net us the quirky Chris Carter, not Conor Jackson. Of course, if Chad Tracy were available, he would be solid.
  19. I'm fairly certain that Loretta signed a 2 or 3-year deal...almost identical to the one that Counsell signed
  20. yeah, my first thought was "wasn't the last time the sent the newsletter, the start of a woot-off?"
  21. why are me and dhonks the on ly two who didnt go to school in wisconsin? seems like this always happens... to be honest, I needed to get away from Wisconsin for college. I'm just learning to accept AZ as home, but I hope to eventually settle in Wisconsin. Actually, my biggest priority is landing a social studies/history job in AZ. Wisconsin won't accept my certification/license, since I achieved it via a post-bacc program. Boy the intra-state bureaucratic hoops for teachers are annoying.
  22. wow, I've never been quoted in a paper before...I feel special....all warm and fuzzy inside
  23. Santa Clara University, Santa Clara (next to San Jose), CA. History and Econ were my majors...that's the nice thing about the quarter system I didn't work, except summers at my family's company in Wisconsin
  24. interesting to see Jackson in LF. This should also allow Chris Carter to come to the big leagues later this year. Also, is there a 3b with more range than Braun?
  25. even the best hitters get themselves out 60% of the time. actually, it's more like 65-70% of the time. Not much, but still adds to your point
