  1. anything by Sam Adams is pretty awful. The first beers I liked were Honeyweiss and Leinie's Red. My favorite beer by any company was Amber Light, so I'm pissed it is gone. I enjoy Sunset Wheat, but it's no Amber Light. Berryweiss is okay on occasion. It really tastes like Minute Maid Fruit Punch, only it's a beer. It's quite tasty, just not very manly.
  2. Buehrle has thrived in the AL, so I imagine he'd be even better in the NL. I'd love to add Buehrle and Dye, I just don't think we have much of value. I would happily trade Vargas and Mench. If the deal were right, I'd consider dealing Bush, Gwynn, Gross, Wise, or Tbow. I wouldn't touch Salome, Inman, or Yo.
  3. nothing. He's a nice guy and a good teammate. His bat is special. But he has no cartilage in one knee. I don't know how he's played CF for the DRays, as the last time I saw him he seemed to think he'd only make the big leagues as a DH, and his trainer felt he'd be out of the game within 2 years because of his knee.
  4. After seeing Howie Long and his kids in an airport, I have to say that they are quite possibly the leanest big people I've ever seen. Howie looked like he wears about a size 46 shorts, yet he didn't look like he had an ounce of fat on him. His kids looked the same. Just very well built
  5. I was just noticing that Caufield was a late round pick . I don't recall a 40-something rounder doing this well for the Crew. Was he a DFE, or what?
  6. Dillard's supposedly a sinker-slider pitcher, and has always been mentioned as a potential late inning reliever (like Wickman was for much of his career...making his living as a sinker specialist). However, the Brewers opted to keep him in rotations as long as he was thriving (2005 minor league pitcher of the year I think), and to allow him to add innings as he didn't begin pitching fulltime until around age 20 (he'd been a catcher). We're now seeing more sinkerballers converted back to rotation spots as teams are trying to keep balls in the park. Derek Lowe was a good closer, now really a 2 pitch starter (and doing a heck of a job, despite what most Brewerfan.net regulars will have you think). Braden Looper has closed, but is doing very well as a starter. Brandon Webb was taught the sinker in the minor leagues and is a Cy Young candidate each year. I see him helping the pen in September.
  7. Mass, I seem to recall Baker's problem was shoulder. I've mentioned this before, but in the AFL I asked Jeff Niemann how Baker was doing. He'd just spoken with him the night before. Josh apparently felt as though his arm was feeling as good--free, easy, and pain-free--since his days in high school. So apparently he'd done something to his arm late in high school, and it just kind of stuck with him. Then as a pro it became bad enough to require surgery. He was my favorite of the 4 pitchers from early in that draft, so I'm excited to see him back in action (Wahpepah a reliever now, Rogers rehabbing, Yo taking off) also, I can't find when Ryan Barba was activated, but he's been in there a couple times lately
  8. Michelle Wie is a fantastic golfer, but I've seen kids in Arizona who are as good, only 3-6 years younger. I go to my parents' club out here, and there's two sisters--must be around 13-15--who easily outhit most boys their age. There's one out here I've played with who is 17. I'm a scratch golfer and have played with her half a dozen times. I've never beaten her, and that's with her playing the championship tees. She played in the local LPGA event last month, made the cut, and easily was hitting it farther than the 25-40 year olds on tour. She's graduating high school a year early, gonna graduate from college in 3 years, then look out LPGA. And then there's also a girl out here who is 18 and went to the school I did my student teaching at. She just opted to forego college and turn pro. She was the #1 women's golf recruit in the country, but passed it up. Wie can be very good, and has plenty of time. But her moment as the young hotshot has passed, as the LPGA is beginning to market young stars (and cuties) like Morgan Pressel, Paula Creamer, Natalie Gulbus, and the other teens about to make a splash in golf in the next 3-5 years.
  9. also Brad, even Melvin Taylor and Bando had good relievers. They acquired Wickman, Fox, Weathers, etc. I don't see the Dodgers having a need at 3b. They like Betemit, LaRoche, and Tony Abreu. If they really want to buff up their offense, they can play Loney at 1b and Nomar at 3b.
  10. I'm watching Spies Like Us...I watch it whenever it is on. It qualifies for sure
  11. well, I'll be on tomorrow night during the game, unless I go out with a hot chica...so I'll be online
  12. wow, really encouraging to see Katin and the shortstop Yo with their averages creeping up. Katin is someone I was high on, but for some reason (his slow start?) I stopped noticing him
  13. Billy Hall has hit two smashes to CF tonight. Usually he finds success when he starts going to Right-center
  14. man, who is Power MVP for today...Brantley? Ford? Lefave?
  15. If the end of the first half is June 15th, they have 14 games left, or 3 starts max for Inman. The first half usually ends around June 10-15th, so that's what I've been thinking.
  16. To be honest, I was surprised he was placed in A+. Reid Nichols is more conservative than the previous regime, I guess. I remember Mike Jones jumping to AA at the same age, despite less success. I fully expected Inman to jump to AA. It really seems that it's more of a pitch count thing, as I think the lower minors have more roster spots which allows for lower pitch counts. I want Will in AA to see him hit!
  17. I'm with you Brad. I wouldn't trade Inman for Salty. I've known Salty, and he's just a punk (or an ass...you choose). It told me a lot that his Braves teammates in the AFL told him they never wanted to hear him say another word. They put up with his attitude for a season, and by mid-Fall they were sick and tired of him. Why is this important? Because the other players the Braves sent to the AFL were some of the nicest players I've met. They were real humble, caring guys. Maybe Salty has changed. But based on past experiences, I wouldn't touch him. He's rather high-maintainence, and a pain to be around.
  18. I'm not sure Prince could have beaten the runner to first. But it would have been nice if JJ had been there quicker
  19. it makes sense given he's coming back from a pretty severe injury. I guess I am a bit confused by this. I thought he and Palmisano suffered the same injury. Are we bigger softies now? I don't remember people saying, "well, Lou's doing pretty well given the severity of the injury." Or is it that we just love Angel so much?
  20. Man, bases loaded and 1 out...come on Alcides, throw it home! If you don't, Will might get so angry about giving up a run that you'll be sorry! Good to see Inman dealing. Man, Salome doing well, but not catching much it seems. Still, I can't recall any hitter having that kind of average in Space Coast Stadium. It would have been scary having him in High Desert.
  21. I know he's been struggling, but I hope we don't start seeing Weeks regularly out of the lineup. Adam, Yost said last weekend (as quoted either in the Journal Sentinal or the team site) that for the near future, Graffy and Council will combine for 3 starts per week at SS and 2b...2 at 2b, 1 at SS. It also should help Weeks deal with the lingering scar tissue in the wrist.
  22. People shouldn't be surprised Rickie is out of the lineup. Last weekend Ned said that with Braun up to the big leagues, he'd begin getting Counsell and Graffy in by giving Hardy 1 day off per week and Weeks 2.
  23. At least a true leadoff man is in there again tonight. I'm surprised to read this from you Brett. I could be wrong, but it seems Weeks' OBPs have always been better than Hart's. That was always the knock on Corey in the minors--he didn't walk
  24. I like the lineup someone else posted, although perhaps Ned is going to continue experimenting with Hart at the top of the lineup. I could see Hart Hardy Braun Fielder Hall Jenkins Weeks Estrada or even Weeks and Braun flip-flopped. I'm sure Estrada will hit 5th or 6th, but I would be intrigued by this lineup
  25. Interesting to see they managed to land 5 DFE's. I like adding 3 polished pitchers. I tend to favor drafting a bunch of pitchers, but I think our system could use some corner outfielders, SS, C, and 1b at this point. I'd focus on rounds 5-15 being a bit pitcher heavy. Good news, and I look forward to following them in Helena
