  1. Mass, sorry about mentioning possible releases. I thought about it, but figured since they are older players likely to catch on elsewhere, there is a bit more freedom. But I most definitely agree with the policy. My point was that i just don't see many moves happening without releases, unless they trade the AAAA-types to organizations in need of them
  2. are they officially stopping it at 5 rounds today, or are they going to keep going? If they don't keep going, I'll bet it goes into Saturday, too
  3. Wow, great outing by Welch. I tend to forget about him. Also, Gamel up over .290 now.
  4. Nice, typical Jack Z. picks so far. It's likely that in the next 7 rounds we'll see a high school SS, a 3b, an athletic CF, and a whole bunch of pitchers fairly evenly distributed between HS, JuCo, and College. He always seems to take an athletic CF and a HS SS in the first few rounds.
  5. I just got home from work and have to say that I am absolutely thrilled with the LaPorta pick Brett, I'm with you. I traditionally like HS pitchers, but given the dearth of power at the corners, I really wanted a corner outfielder. LaPorta could be tried at 1b, LF, or C. Any sound good to me. I love that some are criticizing us for taking a DH. The last DH we drafted is currently on pace for 30-35 homers...by the All-Star break!
  6. DHonks said earlier in the thread that he is a nice guy and a good teammate, I just say let's hear more facts. yes, and if we get Colby in here, I'm fairly sure he'll say he's heard similar things from his sources. In fact, several reporters in the AFL said they'd heard good things about him, too. The problem with Dukes is that he'd likely have more incidents in Milwaukee than Charles Barkley and Chili Davis, combined.
  7. That's a perfect example. If Dukes kept his nose clean for one year, all of a sudden everyone would love him like they do Hamilton. Hamilton was a total trainwreck, but now he's beloved for whatever reason. And Dukes will be a better player than Hamilton. except Brett, I was told by his trainer that he'll likely be out of the game within a few years or at least DHing only because he has no cartilage in one knee
  8. I was a big fan of Dan Brown and Tom Clancy. The Jack Ryan series by clancy is a fun read. I suggest reading them in order. At the very least, Debt of Honor, Executive Orders, and The Bear and The Dragon comprise one very good book. On the whole, I'll bet the three books make up a 3000 page story. The Dan Brown books are very easy, fun reads. The problem is that they all feature some unbelievable way of cheating death, whether falling from 3,000 feet and surviving, or being rescued by a submarine.
  9. which is more shocking...that Brae Wright threw well, or Brantley failed to reach base?
  10. Katin starting to heat up..... I think he is a underrated... He might be a tad bit older than the former prospects, but if he keeps this up, it's quite possible his numbers surpass those of Fielder, Weeks, and Hart in Huntsville
  11. bjkrautk, the problem with that as a comparison is that Sheets was throwing a 2-seamer, since the club had stressed efficiency and low pitch counts in the minors. That's why he went from being a groundball pitcher to being a flyball pitcher...he scrappyed it.
  12. as someone who has had two family members saved because of transplants, I feel terrible right now. My thoughts and prayers go out to all parties involved, directly and indirectly.
  13. Peavey, we did produce Jeff D'Amico. He was rather solid in the big leagues, too. Scott Karl's career was solid for a 4-man, although I don't understand why he gave it up, unless he had his money and had lost the drive.
  14. my usual question, only adapted a bit. Who would you say compares most favorably to Ben Sheets? I think of this as good velocity, solid 1-2 punch. Who is this year's Will Inman or Brett Anderson (with Anderson, I'm looking for a polished prep lefty...in our case, one available after round 3)?
  15. ouch...I start cooking and we're up 2-1. I come in to answer my cellphone, and we're down 3-2, with Soriano rounding the bases Shouse sure has been terrible for a while. His numbers since late April have to be scary. Even worse is the inherited runners he's allowed...I'll look up the numbers after eating
  16. I enjoy watching, especially when teams from Texas are playing. Man, every college sporting event--men's or women's--in Texas has plenty of women that are easy on the eyes. Good looking athletes...man that's fun to watch
  17. Interesting...I had visions of one of Estrada's line drives to left-center, scoring two. I guess I'm the only one here now that likes his offense. I just wish he'd walk quite a bit more, but I like the line drives that usually come off his bat.
  18. Is there a time limit for a team to pick a player, or do they have as long as they want. Also, how fast does the first round normally go? before they started doing the draft show broadcasts on the internet, they simply broadcast the conference call. All rounds went rapid fire, usually 2-4 picks taking place each minute, with short 5-15 minute breaks every few rounds
  19. I, for some reason, can not turn off either of "The Librarian" movies with Noah Wyle(sp?) and Bob Newhart. What's the verdict, are they good or bad ones I love? They are bad movies. But if you're alone on a Friday night, they're very entertaining. I guess that's the best way I'd describe them. I think they're also geared towards a somewhat younger crowd...very kid friendly.
  20. what's next? fancy little umbrellas in every beer? Lite beer is girly enough. except Wisconsin is a rather obese state. While we should exercise (we all have excuses), little things like shifting to a light beer are first steps
  21. what about tweaking it for salary reasons. Mench and Capellan for Lidge +some cash.?
  22. To be honest, we could release a significant chunk of the AAA roster and move up players en masse. Dillon, Dickey, Thomas, and perhaps Hackman could go (Hopf going down). In AA, Mateo, Moss, Palmisano, and perhaps Hinton/Thurman go to AAA. Are Stocker and DiFelice needed, or are they simple some minor league fodder? A+ could promote Inman, Stanczyk, Wahpepah, and Cain. Of course, the problem that I am seeing is that the positions of promotions don't match up well.
  23. Inman's next because it's just too good to be true. If this guy goes to Huntsville and is able to keep his era in the 2.10 range--I'll need to call an ambulance You mean you aren't expecting him to keep up his sub-2.00 ERAs, even in the big leagues?
  24. Right now I'm watching The Lonely Guy. It's bad, but funny, too, and kind of reminds me of some people
  25. thanks for the update Mass. Glad to see Josh on the mound. I'm surprised it's as a reliever though. Tough to lose on two singles.
