  1. Berry Weiss is a wine cooler. Nothing more. except it's a beer.
  2. Hawing and others...I remember those legendary threads....but I've always wondered why it's referred to as a cheese sandwich on brewerfan.net, but a grilled cheese everywhere else.
  3. well, at least this ugly one isn't on TV. it was painful last night to get strung along
  4. That Hunstville lineup should score some runs with OBP guys like Brantley and Sollman in there, and red-hot Katin and Heether behind them.
  5. at least I was at a bar last night. That was rough, but I'm glad I had to follow the gametracker on my phone...watching it might have made me sick
  6. Sure, he's a professional baseball player, but it's not like he's making that much money. I think 3rd year 40-man roster guys start at $60k.
  7. I'm not sure if there are such things as 2-year minor league deals.
  8. Has Marlon Byrd always been that fat? I'd never call him fat, but I was thinking along those lines. I always thought of him as a rather speedy CF, but his build is more like Miguel Cabrera than Bill Hall
  9. man, was that fisted? wow that carried
  10. Roque Mercedes with perhaps the best outing of his young career. Does he have a strikeout pitch?
  11. I just don't find her attractive. Granted, I'm an eternally single guy, but she's overly skinny, wears too much makeup (my simple philosphy is that if I can tell a woman is wearing makeup, she's wearing too much), and about as phoney as people get. She seems very devious...nothing about her appearance is authentic or innocent.
  12. interesting that Toronto has already concluded their draft
  13. She's not even very attractive. I don't get it. She's done nothing in her life, yet she's treated like royalty. I don't mind her getting released from jail, because frankly the PR for the state and for her is something unnecessary. Although I'd make her serve the full term, I can understand getting rid of the distraction
  14. some interesting moves. I think that the bump to Huntsville has a couple of reasons. For starters, they likely want to break up the 6 or 7 CF-types they have in A/A+, so for the time being it provides playing time for more people. His plate discipline likely says he's good at making adjustments. And his personality/character likely make him someone that can handle the jump
  15. But for all that, even with a bit of a power spike Brantley has all of two HR in over 750 pro AB, and it remains to be seen if he'll have enough power to survive...is he Tony Gwynn Junior Junior? He's hitting so well at such a young age, I'd compare him more to Tony Gwynnn than Tony jr
  16. I think tonight might mark the return of Alex Periard.
  17. Jones always threw very well in the minors. He was on track to be in the big league rotation by around age 21 or 22, and then the injuries. What impressed many of us was his desire to go right after hitters, content with getting 1 or 2 pitch outs. He showed good control and good stuff, just never really had a strikeout pitch. I hope the organization doesn't give up on him, as he has a high ceiling and always seems a hard worker. Plus, we now have Grant Balfour throwing very well in AAA despite shoulder and elbow surgeries. It's time Mike becomes a reliever, and one that only pitches twice a week. When he's 26, let him test it out more. But I say keep him next year, and baby him to the extreme. Best of luck to Mike
  18. I'm far from a scout but did his motion look kind of 'hectic' to you, Doug? I think they'll calm down his delivery in the pros. I can see that. I don't think it's too busy, but it could use some refining. What's also tricky is that he doesn't really repeat his mechanics. Sometimes things look good, sometimes he has legs and arms flapping, and sometimes his upper and lower halves simply aren't working together. I think they'll definitely try to calm down his delivery. But he's got good stuff. I'm no scout, but I am basically a golf pro. The basics of the sports are the same. Excess movement, head moving, and extra wiggling/waggling make it much harder to be consistent. I like what I see, but just needs tightening up
  19. Hoehn really throws from a low arm angle, almost like the Weaver brothers. It should help prevent arm injuries. He was dialing it up during the game on video, consistently hitting 91 and 92. Looks like a very good mid-round pick
  20. I find it funny how people are reacting the same to this draft as they do each year. Jack Z's job is to provide an influx of talent to help Doug Melvin out. Take a look at our low levels of minor leaguers, and they're all 19-22. The Brewers took some very advanced hitters that can jump past those young prospects. There is no change in philosophy, just an evolution in philosophy. This same thing happened a few years ago when the team toop a bunch of college players. If the Brewers draft young raw players, eventually they need to draft college players, or else they'll have huge gaps in the high minors. So far, through round 21, this is the breakdown: College: 8 JuCo: 3 HS: 9 RHP: 5 LHP: 4 1b: 1 2b/ss: 2 3b: 2 OF: 2 CF: 2 C: 2
  21. Okay, some thoughts from scouting videos: -Merklinger throws roughly 86-87. He looks very tall out there, with a low-effort delivery. And as stated, he has a ton of leg movement. I could see him being projected to throw harder as a pro with some tightening up of his mechanics. -Nieves is smooth out there. young lefty that doesn't appear afraid to pitch inside. Throws a slurvy, two-plane breaking ball that moves a lot. He's only 17, and will remain so for the whole season. That means that if he's solid, he could potentially be in A-ball next year at 18. Seems like the Puerto Rican Alex Periard Scarpetta looks like another stud. He has a Clemens-like build. However, he reminds me of current Giant Randy Messenger. He's a big guy, looks like a stud power reliever down the road. Chris Dennis reminds me of a combination of Derek Lowe and Ben Sheets. He gets his arm far behind him like only Sheets and Radke. But he starts it out a bit lower, as many sinkerballers do to stay on top of the ball. Still, I couldn't help but think of Sheets when I saw him pitch.
  22. is 13th rounder Christopher Dennis a Canadian? I notice it lists no state, just like with the Puerto Rican pitcher
  23. I read on BA that it sounds like LaPorta may sign by the morning. Could be in West Virginia within a week, which is interesting since they already have Caufield, Brantley, Ford, Chapman, Alonso, and Lefave between 1b/dh/of. So I assume based on the comments, Ford jumps to A+, likely Gillespie to AA.
  24. I might be moving back in August if I land a teaching job there...I've got my fingers crossed. Even then, I'll likely stay w/my folks till I have a couple thousand in the bank
  25. well done fellas. Although I think it should no longer be linked to a page entitled Toby's Power 50. Perhaps "the brewerfan power 50, formerly brought to you by Toby" Still well done. Toby's legacy lives on. Yes, I realize Toby is alive and well, so I don't mean those to sound like he has passed on.
