  1. all the little things are going against us. On this road trip there have been at least 10 broken bat hits. And all our line drives to the OF are caught (see Weeks, Gwynn, Hardy).
  2. As of now I would think Brantley profiles perfectly as a backup in the big leagues. He supposedly is fast and good defensively at both 1b and in the OF. He draws walks, doesn't strikeout, and is developing at least some signs of power.
  3. anyone wanna play on yahoo now?
  4. wow, Brantley with his 11th double. Sounds like he's making some nice changes. He probably deserves to reach A+ in July or August, too
  5. I don't think it's an issue, though. I read this morning that Sheets is probably going to start on Tuesday. yes, but if Villanueva is called on to pitch today or tomorrow, and Ben's blister recurs during warmups, then what? I would assume that they'll have a backup plan just in case. I remember back in the mid 90s they used to have Steve Sparks up several times per year, but not activated. Same went for Ben Hendrickson his rookie year
  6. i like the confidence shown by putting Braun in the 3-spot.
  7. Why do I have a bad feeling that Counsell will start over Braun today he won't. Ned started Rickie something like 25 straight days after being recalled.
  8. Milledge reminds me of the other "can't miss" players of late. You know, those star players such as Wilson Betemit, Alex Escobar, Brandon Phillips, Josh Hamilton, Luis Terrero, Corey Patterson. These players were all suppoed to put up superstar numbers and revolutionize the game. Only Hamilton has a chance now, although Phillips seems above average (what, 3 organizations later?)
  9. Explain 3 handed, please. wow, this is tough in a small window. It's 2 vs 1. Cards are dealt (10 to each; take the 2-6 out of the deck in each suit so there are 32 cards)). Trump are diamonds, jacks, and queens. The first person can pick the "blind" (has two cards in it). If they do, then the person now has 12 cards. They choose two cards to "bury". These can be points, or the opportunity to eliminate a suit from their hand. Rarely if ever are trump buried. The picker's goal is to get 61 points. The opponents goal is to get 60. There are 120 possible points (A=11, 10=10, K=4, Q=3, J=2). As in other Trump games, if you are out of a suit, you can trump it, which means that a diamond, jack, or queen takes the suit. Unlike Hearts, you can actually lead trump before it is broken. I think that's the simple way to explain it, although Sheepshead is a tough game to describe
  10. If Yo goes more than 2 innings, then Villanueva and Zach Jackson become the backup options behind Sheets
  11. very true SoCal. One question is...why keep Mercedes in WV all year? Is it to let him learn from mistakes? Is he somehow throwing better than his results indicate? They seem to have a reason, although it's hard to tell.
  12. I can't believe it. I thought it would be impossible, but Vargas' actually raised his WHIP.

ah yes, I remember the last drink on my 21st bday was the Frosty I bought while taking a break from my buddy in the ER. He'd rolled his ankle on the way into the restaurant for my bday, and by the time we were seated his ankle looked like a softball. I never knew that ankles really looked that bad when swollen. Well, 4 hours later he was released after being seen, and my bday passed with me consuming 2 beers (I found out that I don't like Sierra Nevada)
  14. Another player in need of a promotion ASAP is Ben Stanczyk. He's thrived in A+, and it's year 2.
  15. I'm thinking the AS break? brian, wouldn't a logical time be the end of the minor league 1st halves? I think that's around June 10th usually
  16. I guess I'm not all that sure how this could happen at Stanford. I went to a school just down the road from there (Santa Clara University), and all of my teachers knew my name before the first day of class and took attendance. I never had more than 35 people in a class, except Stats and Chem.
  17. four of us play picker plays alone, 3 blinds what's this mean? I play 4-handed, 3 vs 1, but there are 4 cards in the blind. In this scenario, it's foolish to ever pass.
  18. when I get back to Wisco for a bit this summer, I'd love to join. 5 handed rules. We could also do a yahoo version some other nights, since we all watch the games while on the net
  19. brad, brewers.com says Aquino was optioned to AAA
  20. He is what he is. A very average pitcher who was a throw-in in the Overbay deal. "At least half the teams in the majors" wouldn't exactly be lining up to work with Doug to trade us anything of value for this dude. Geno, from the time the trade happened we knew he was the centerpiece that the Brewers were receiving. Gross was the throw-in
  21. If the Brewers had a fire sale on Bush at least half the teams in baseball would show interest because of his past success. I can't see them dealing Bush. Vargas has been worse and should go to the pen for Villanueva or Gallardo. I kind of like Brian's idea to have both Vargas and Bush to the pen with Villy and Yo to the rotation. I'm not giving up on Bush, but I think often times a change can be beneficial.
  22. every year my friend calls me when the Padres beat the Brewers. Her husband confesses that she doesn't care about the Padres much, except when they beat either his team (BoSox) or my team. I'd love to avoid that call...or rather I'd like to be able to make that call.
  23. amazing that the Padres two homers seem to have scraped the padding on the way down. And man does that grand slam seem big now
  24. Wow, Angel with a nice pace so far. It's a young season for him, but he might hit 15-20 jacks in Brevard (amazing) in only 4 months
