  1. man, we had 9 walks tonight? that makes it extra rough
  2. the way we've killed lefties this week, I am hoping tomorrow should be a rather sound victory. I never feel good against Oswalt, so we need tomorrow.
  3. well, last night I wanted Villanueva to finish the game, tonight I wanted a shorter leash on Aquino. Still, I can't imagine Aquino is on this team in a week. We have 3 pitchers for late in games--Tbow, Cordero, and Shouse. Wise hasn't looked especially sharp, Dessens and Villy are long men. Aquino needs to step up as the 4th late inning guy, but he hasn't. I think within a week we'll see Sarfate and perhaps Thatcher or Balfour (dare I say, Stetter?)
  4. interesting. Let's win this by 2!
  5. I love Estrada's stroke. He's and Hart go up and they just hit line drives...few towering flyouts. now I'd pinch run with Hart
  6. wow, I thought that sounded and looked like a popup to short left off the bat
  7. This is interesting tonight. Ben's thrown about 10-15 changeups, easily the most in a game outside of Coors. In the past he threw it at around 85 (with his normal 82-83 curve). But tonight it's hitting 90. Must be just his fastball with a slightly tweaked grip. It's going 90 with tons of run in on righties.
  8. Not sure what I like more...13K's and 0 BB, or 12 GO v. 4 FO for the West Virginia tandem also, is this a sign of the apocalypse? Brad Nelson and Lou Palmisano are both over .300, and we aren't looking back 3 years
  9. wow, Braddock!!! wow..wow Did I saw wow? I wonder if it's approaching the time to make Mr. Jones a reliever. He's out of options after this year, and his only chance of contributing with us is as a reliever.
  10. You don't see a three-pitch strikeout where all are called strikes too often. I'm curious what that pitch was. It was off the plate. But Bill thought it was a curve. Only it didn't break, and the gun showed 90. Ben doesn't throw anything 90, unless maybe he tried the 2-seamer. Radar Gun error? I have no idea
  11. I like it when Sheets shows the heater a lot. Although man, his curve didn't have much bite to it in the first. Almost looked like his changeup. Can't fault Estrada on those, although with Sheets on the mound it's almost not worth it to even think of throwing.
  12. okay Benny, throw him a high heater now.
  13. well, I signed Mench and Lieber for today's games, so let's see if they make me look like a genius (at least for one day).
  14. The one player who I kept hoping we'd take was Brett Anderson. Didn't the Dbacks land him in round 3? He just tossed another gem last night and is off to a fast start. Colby or others, do you have any regrets from last year's Brewers' draft? Any still making you scratch your head?
  15. Braun even splitting time at first would be great. It took me reading that 3 times before I realized you were not calling for him to take at bats from Fielder. I would like to see Braun eased in with 3-4 games per week. But at the same time, Weeks played something like his first 25 days in the big leagues. It shocked me, because I kept expecting him to have a day off. I really don't like trying to get 162 games out of players. I prefer budgeting for around 140 for most positions, and 155 if you have a stud at a position (Hall and Fielder)
  16. Most likely the best we could expect from Braun in a callup at this point would be .270 avg and .340 obp. The big variability is with power. He could hit 5, or 25. Remember how Weeks put on that power display as a rookie?
  17. also Mass, good to see Sarfate threw 11 of 14 pitches for strikes.
  18. also, a couple things...good to see Brad Nelson hitting .270 with some power And does anyone else wonder what Ned and Maddux think when they see Gallardo's lines? We know from past articles that Yost reads the box scores and game reports from the affiliates first thing each day. We know Maddux was urging the Crew to keep him on the team out of spring training....in '06. Do they have a secretive meeting? While walking around to top off his cup of coffee (or so he claims), Ned says, "hey Mike, I'd like to see you in my office when you get a chance." After entering the office and carfully nodding to Ned, and seeing a similarly subtle facial gesture, Mike closes the door. Slowly taking a seat, Ned hands Mike a manila folder with red lettering on the outside--CONFIDENTIAL. He studies it carefully, handing it back to Ned. The two share a moment, staring at eachother, knowing that they must temper their enthusiasm. After collecting themselves, another subtle head nod is exchanged, Maddux leaves the office with a smiling Ned sipping his coffee with a big smile on his face.
  19. nice start to the AAA season for Yo. I was worried with how he threw in the televised spring start...I guess I was being foolish
  20. turnbow struggled, but the key is he didn't cost us the game. As long as we win, I am not concerned
  21. One reason perhaps to go to the closers (plural) might be that the heart of the order is due up
  22. Yeah, Ned must really want to get Hart home. I would have thought he planned on saving the pen. Of course, maybe an idea would be to do a double switch next time with Gross in LF for Mench, batting 9th
  23. plus...it'd be fun to see him get a save
  24. doug---how are you watching this? I'm not. Got the trusted MLB gametracker up. I just know that when you have a 3 inning guy like Villanueva, this is a better role than trying to bring him in with 1 out in the 6th in a 4-3 game, and a runner on second. Let him start innings, and have it set up where he can go several innings and get some flow on the mound
