  1. I thought Rottino was supposedly better behind the dish than Munson??
  2. Tim Redding Scott Rice (Fall Leaguer) Stephen Randolph Josh Wilson (Fall Leaguer, AAA SS fodder) Chris George Alan Zinter Carlos Hernandez Mike Gallo Ken Harvey (AAA 1b) Brian Bass (Fall Leaguer...good stuff, just injured a lot) Kelly Wunsch Dan Giese (Fall Leaguer, great guy, decent stuff) Josh Kroeger Scott Strickland (always had great arm) Matt LeCroy some make more sense than others.
  3. Wes Wilkerson, RHP: Posted a 4.46 ERA and a 1.94 GO/FO ratio in the PCL. His power arm and heavy sinker drew some rave reviews in the AFL a few years ago, I believe from DHonks in particular. correct Colby. I'll look at the list tomorrow. But Wes is a great guy who throws hard. He's been pitching now for I believe 3 years, maybe 4. Teams knew they had to score in the first 6 innings with the 7th-9th split between Wes and some kid named Huston
  4. didn't see much, but Braun's homer was kind of cheap. The wind was calm, and it just took off. Seemed to be a routine fly short of the track off the bat, till I saw the outfielder leap at the fence. Moss lost a few in the sun, as it is at a very poor angle behind the dish at around 3-4 pm. But he appears very smooth out there.
  5. Quite the opposite. They even boosted the pitcher roster limit this year in part to get more quality arms into the league. Toby, it seems to me that the Fall League rosters have fewer starting pitchers. I think we have 5-7 starters this year. The rest are all relievers. So I think the idea is to make it a league where games are like modern All-star games, with a starter going 2-5 IP, and then marching the relievers in for an inning at a time. Two years ago when our squad won it, we lacked starting pitching, but had Wes Wilkerson (minor league free agent, I think) throwing 95 with tons of movement coming in for the 7th (I think he had just converted to pitching that year, too), and then Huston Street for the 8th and 9th. Now teams seem to be built with 2-4 decent starters, and then a ton of potential closer prospects. I think our squad has 2-4 minor league "closers" (in quotes, since some didn't close this year, but are perceived as future closers)
  6. I'd love to have King back. He's long been one of the best left-handed relievers in the game, throws hard, and has that devastating slider. He's also very durable for a big guy. For some reason he never got much love on message boards. I always liked that he got both lefties and righties out, although for some reason people repeatedly referred to him as a lefty specialist.
  7. I didn't get to see too much of Friday night's game. Before I had a chance to finish some chores, our hitting coach came in wondering how much time Braun spent in the big leagues this year, because he didn't look like a AA kid. Got to talk with Braun and Sarfate during/after the game. Both were very nice. Dennis is kind of a fun, goofy guy. He was having fun telling me that he wasn't going to allow an earned run this fall....maybe not even a hit. He felt that after his success in Milwaukee, he could strike everyone in this league out. We even talked about DennisFrancis Braun was a bit surprising. Doing some chores after the game, he saw my shirt, came up and said, "hey you a Brewer's fan? I'm Ryan, Ryan Braun." So we talked for a few minutes, ending with me wishing them luck. I also talked briefly with Narron, recalling how I saw his Bugs Bunny-like changeup in spring training '05. He laughed, and he said he's at 100% and looking forward to his opportunities in the organization after signing recently.
  8. Hall came out of absolutely nowhere I beg to differ. His sustained success came out of nowhere, but he is formerly a Brewers farmhand of the year. I was at the game where he hit his first homer, and I remember thinking, "man, he has an explosive bat". We all figured he had pop in his bat. Most just never figured he'd find the ball enough to have success. And of course, there was that whole defense thing
  9. Remember that Yo has command of what, 3 or 4 pitches? Ben has 2 pitches. Supposedly there's a cutter, 2seamer, and changeup in there, but we see them a total of 20 pitches per season, mostly in Coors.
  10. also, Krynzel is playing in the PCL, Hall was in the International League. If David could limit his annual 0-30 slide, he'd finish with much better numbers. It seems that each year, at every level, he gets off to a hot start and people think "man, he's turning the corner." Then he cools off, then gets hot. Sometime after that hot streak, he goes on one of those 0-30 skids that feature 15-20 K's, and he never rebounds.
  11. I would imagine he'll be there this evening to see Manny and the boys firsthand. not tonight Mass. I'll be there tomorrow night watching when they come to our park. I think we throw Kyle Yates tonight, but I might be mistaken. With 20 pitchers I have yet to figure out who our starters are, outside of Jeff Niemann and Dustin McGowan. talked with Pat Listach the other night. He's a great guy. He saw me in a Brewers shirt and asked if I work for them. I said, "no, but your rookie year helped make me a diehard fan." He replied, "Diehard? Man, I'm sorry. That's been a rough few years. At least you've got the Packers....oh, wait."
  12. foamboy, the update on Baker is that he feels he hurt his shoulder during his senior year of high school. Apparently his surgery this offseason was on both the labrum and rotator cuff. He now claims to feel better while throwing than he has in at least 5 years, possibly more. He had his first in-game throwing since the surgery last week.
  13. He didn't exactly perform as I had expected (I expected him to cruise to AA quickly), but I hope the surgery has improved his situation. When do they expect him to begin throwing again? Any idea? I'll ask on Wed or Thurs. I really was looking forward to him jumping through the system. I thought he had the best looking motion of the four Rice pitchers.
  14. the years would be 5. I'd love to sign him for $12.5 million per year, or less. I think if he were truly interested, I might go higher.
  15. such a no brainer. ARod in a heatbeat. Hall likely just had his career year. ARod will be awesome for another decade.
  16. talked with someone in the know today, and Josh Baker is doing well after having off-season shoulder surgery. That's all I got out of him. Baker was a person I was intrigued by, but like his 3 teammates, he needed surgery. It was awkward how little we heard of him this year. And if you really are curious who my source is, I'm sure those who have read my posts can figure it out.
  17. wow, I always thought Spezio was a truck...a triple? That's ridiculous
  18. in front of a national televison audience. Come on, Bullpen! except Arizona, and I presume most of pacific time. We have no game till later.
  19. and I'm also interested in hearing about Garrison and Brantley, for their successes in A ball at 19
  20. Pogo, I just can't fathom dealing away that kind of pitching talent. I feel Yo and Eveland both have the ability to be #2 caliber pitchers. Two #2's simply are worth more than Crawford. By the way, since Crawford really supposedly isn't a CF, and doesn't have a great OBP for leadoff, where would he hit? Is he a 3-hitter? Weeks has better On base skills, hence why I ask
  21. Besides Lewis and Zumwalt, the others are a bit surprising. Pena to the AA pen maybe? and does anyone else see Medlin, and think of the cartel?
  22. the teams that trade their top prospects are the teams who can afford a massive payroll. For instance, the Yankees would rather not rely on kids. The Brewers can't go trading for hitters like Crawford, because that contract will be right when Fielder and Weeks are getting $7 million, and Hardy $4 million.
  23. you think bonds is proud of his defense ? Bonds does have 8 gold gloves. He used to have fantastic range and a very accurate (not strong) arm. However, the bum knee and bad elbow, along with age, have taken their toll. He really should be a DH. I remember thinking it was kind of funny back in '02 or '03. They had a commercial where two outfielders were being told how they would cover the outfield (I think they were Grissom and Tucker). Someone asked "what about Barry?" "He's over there", showing him sitting in a recliner in left. So while we can mock him for his defense, the Giants fans don't care...in fact they embrace it .
  24. Yeah, but it was just so over the top that it became funny. It took much more skill than a simple "You Suck Jenkins!" or something. agreed. It was so overdone, and all-encompassing with regards to our complaints with Jenkins for 5 years now, that it was one of the funniest posts I've ever seen. Strange. We deal Ginter and Branyan becomes the controversial player. Then we assume Russell will be gone, and it becomes "who is better," with Cappy and Davis the candidates. Then it becomes "whom to keep, Jenkins or Lee." We deal Lee, and it becomes simply, "get rid of "Jenkins." I can't wait for the next controversial topic. Anyone taking bets to see who it'll be?
  25. well, how long till Rottino enters to pitch?
