  1. Teahen will never be a star. But he could one day be a Bill Mueller-like player. He's a good guy, and a solid defensive player
  2. Love the minor league forum. Thanks to everyone who contributes. agreed. What I like about the minor league forum is that it's more positive and hopeful.
  3. I would anticipate at his age, with a decent spring training, he'll be the 4th OF in West Virgina.
  4. I just remember how many arm surgeries Jaret Wright, D'Amico, Nathan, etc had, and they've been fine. I won't write off Jones. I think he should begin in AAA, and we'll take it from there
  5. also good to see Dillard, Hammond, and Garrison represented, although the latter seems a bit low.
  6. I feel bad for Elijah. He's one of the nicest guys I've met in the Fall League the last few years, openly sticking up for clubbies and the jobs they do. He also is a phenomenal talent, as evidenced by the 2 or 3 walkoffs he had in his week or so in the AFL. I sometimes wondered if he was stoned, as his eyes looked awful, but I wasn't about to ask. It's too bad, he could be a great player, but it's likely he'll be out of the game within a year or so. I'm not sure it has been officially released, but he has virtually no cartilage in one knee, meaning he's no longer an outfielder. He left the league early because he couldn't bend it while playing first. So unless he can exclusively DH, he's probably done. Like I said, it's too bad because he can flat-out hit. The ball leaves his bat like Delmon Young and Rickie Weeks.
  7. when I hear about shoulder injuries, I cringe. Guys seem to be able to bounce back somewhat from Tommy John. Guys rarely seem to bounce back from labral and rotator cuff injuries.
  8. I would most definitely endorse taking a college closer as long as he is arguably the best player available. I say arguably, because let's not look at potential, but rather look at polished/best.
  9. Colby, any hope for my Santa Clara Broncos this year? Randy Winn and Steve Nash are getting old, and we need more professionals!
  10. Mass, when I worked for the Dbacks in spring training 2 years ago, I was amazed at how big he was. Around 23 months ago he was pushing 300. I imagine this comeback will go like his last few
  11. I also still think Inman might jump to AA. He might not benefit from dominating in A+ in the pitchers' dream yard. The only concern would be pitch counts, but they could have him on lower counts in AA than his peers, just as they've done with others.
  12. good call on Tatum, Colby. What about Kinkade, Klassen, and Krause?
  13. thanks Toby. I always love that feature. Any chance that John Alonso moves to A? And why Narron to AA, not AAA?
  14. I'd love to add Lieber. I would hope they would do a package of either Mench/Clark and Turnbow/Vargas
  15. hey everyone, just thought I'd see who everyone else had as a favorite at one time. I'd say that my two favorites who never panned out were Ryan Poe and Jose Mieses. For a hitter, I love the Jim Rushford story.
  16. I was really impressed with the progress--at least statistically--of Mercedes. I also was a bit surprised at how high everyone has Jackson rated still. He didn't show much in the big leagues or AAA (except compared to Hendrickson and Eveland). Of course, I didn't rank him in my top 20 last year, so I'm a bit skeptical.
  17. Tavarez? Do we really need that guy throwing at everyone? I may not be sold on Turnbow, but I think upside is much higher
  18. To be honest, letting Sarfate go would be like the Angels letting Tbow walk. He's got a fantastic arm, just needs some tweaking and experience.
  19. Additionally, if his team really decides it wants him, the option is also a team option. so let me get this right. If he is durable, there is a team option, likely with a buyout if declined. If he isn't durable, there likely is no payment to let him walk? Is that what you are saying here?
  20. To be honest, a lot could depend on how they perceive Gross. Do they see him as a potential starter with 20+ hr power and a nifty obp? Do they see him as a RF, LF, CF? All comments i seem to recall show that he can play CF in a pinch, but isn't their ideal CF. If Gross is someone they want to try to get to 300-400 at bats, then Jenkins likely needs to go. If however they feel Gross' 2006 was a fluke, then perhaps they can keep them all, just dealing Clark. And of course the wild card is Laynce Nix. His tools and defensive skills make him a new candidate for the 4th/5th OF job, since he can play CF well, has power, and hits well in the minors.
  21. Its pretty common for SS turned 3B to struggle with throwing, because they have to position themselves different for throws from 3B. I keep thinking of Jose hernandez. His fluid sidearm motion was solid at SS, but terrible at 3b.
  22. i'm curious why they have Koskie's OBP so low, and Weeks' slg the same as Hardy.
  23. thanks Adam. Interesting reviews. it makes it fun to look ahead to the second half of 2007, when either Koskie will be platooning, traded, or injured. He lacks the OBP skills of Koskie, but could outhomer him. also, some good points brad. I think that we all have forgotten that he was considered to have decent potential at SS. Sometimes 3b can be hard to learn, especially on poor minor league infields.
  24. perhaps we should have just had #'s 1 and 2 be Braun and Gallardo. Heck, make Inman 3. Then voted for 4-23. That's a lot more challenging
  25. Melvin has always stated he'd like to reduce the strikeouts, but I think people are misreading things. Some people are viewing strikeouts as a byproduct of success, and that is totally false. Good players that strike out a lot will yield both success and strikeouts. Bad/mediocre players that strikeout will yield mediocre play and lots of strikeouts. A team of brewerfan.net users would strike out at record rates. Would we have success? So I think some people view Melvin's critique of strikeouts the wrong way.
