  1. I hope his Angel Echevarria-esque name is the least of our problems when he comes up sometime in '08. I hope he comes up in 2008. I've been convinced Palmisano won't see the big leagues since his disappointing season in the Midwest League. I hope he or the Rookie Ball Walks machine (was it Bouchie???) is able to pan out. I'm at the point where I'd be tempted to take every struggling player who might get cut, and give them a try at catcher in extended spring training.
  2. 1. Ryan Braun (because he came up to me and introduced himself) 2. Yo 3. Inman 4. Rogers 5. Jeffress 6. Gillespie 7. Katin 8. Hammond 9. Dillard 10. Gwynn 11. Sarfate 12. Salome 13. Escobar 14. The Hurricane 15. Jones 16. Parra 17. Nelson (still Brewers property some how). 18. Garrison 19. Mercedes 20. Cain
  3. other than 10/5 status, what is preventing a Turnbow + Hall for Manny + cash deal?
  4. I'm pretty sure Pavano is a power arm. For years people talked about his ace-potential. Then he had one great season and got the big contract. If he could be had cheaply ($$-wise), I'd love to acquire his. He's a low-risk, high reward kind of pitcher. We'd need backup options, though
  5. you seriously wouldn't take schimdt.. what is there a rule that in order to start in milwaukee you have to be young? you read Don's posts enough, and correspond with him, and you realize he has an obvious bias against players over 30 years old. That's fine, it's just one bias. I have a friend in Milwaukee who would rather start an untalented 34 year old than a rookie any day of the week. We all have some biases and preferences. If you look back, you'll see that his views on nearly every 30+ year old signed to a big contract are the same.
  6. Well, we knew Schmidt would get $10 million per year entering the offseason. So tacking on $15 million more over the course of the contract isn't terrible
  7. I'd love to add Ethier. He and LaRoche were the Fall Leaguers I enjoyed being around. He's great as a teammate and with the media. Ethier does nothing great, but everything at least adequately. I'd peg him as a .275 15-20 hr guy, who draws lots of walks. So I'd happily do Jenkins and either a prospect or a reliever like Turnbow or Wise, for Penny and Ethier
  8. Would it be worth overpaying for prospects, though? Jenkins+Bush+Hardy? The Sox are moving Papelbonn back to the rotation and would like a new closer. So perhaps Turnbow + Jenkins or Mench + a minor leaguer
  9. Po could make sense for CF. He's not great defensively, but CF is the easiest to play when you have a tough time judging balls like he does. He has the ability to hit leadoff. Over the last 4 years his numbers have wavered a great deal, but we should be able to expect an OBP of between .340 and .360, which is adequate. His strength was also baserunning, which is something we could use help with. If we were to part with Jenkins, I'd want something more in return. I don't know what exactly, though
  10. I would love Loretta back, but what will it take? If the Brewers are so convinced Hall can't play CF, why not move Weeks back to his college position. That makes CF a good offensive position, Hall can shift to 2b, and all are happy. We still wouldn't have a decent leadoff option other than Weeks, though. Perhaps the Loretta idea has some merit. Hall to LF, Weeks to CF, Loretta signed at 2b and leadoff.
  11. actually, moreso than the Power 50, I'd love Toby's depth chart for the organization. The new Cuban SS would be the AA SS I assume. Perhaps Jones or Narron to the AAA rotation now with Eveland gone. Gwynn likely in AAA. Braun in AAA. Drew Anderson in AAA. Inman in AA or A+? I would think he'll skip like Jones and Eveland did. And Gallardo in AA or AAA? Dillard a starter or in the pen?
  12. thanks Colby. Sure would be nice if teams would rush to sign Helling, Graffanino, and Ohka to pad our system
  13. actually, are you sure about that brewcru1? He was drafted by us 3 times I thought, which would mean he was drafted at age 19 or 20 the time he was signed.
  14. I'd take him for 1 year at $4 million
  15. Roberts would be my main choice, followed by Lofton or Drew. I wouldn't be considering Patterson or Pierre (just signed)
  16. Having worked around Loney in the AFL, I can tell you that he's not a good teammate. He's kind of an ass. It's all about him. He's got quick hands, and a stance that's somewhat reminiscent of Bonds. He's very athletic and quick, but last year only played 1 AFL game at a spot in the Outfield, despite sharing 1b and DH with Wes Bankston and Daric Barton. Loney can hit. He's likely just a little immature and young. I don't view him as an OF though. I'd much rather have Andre Ethier
  17. He's an interesting person to ask about. Heck, he'd be more tradeable than Jenkins or Mench, so we could actually acquire him just to deal him. As for why JEnkins AND Mench would need to be moved, it's because nearly every indication is that they view Hall as a LF, not a CF
  18. thanks Mass. I take that back then.
  19. okay, my turn now. My simple moves: 1) Trade Jenkins, get Matt Clement. Some scenarios could be straight-up, or perhaps in a 3-way with the Giants for Benitez since we know the Red Sox want a new closer. Perhaps to balance out the salaries it could be Jenkins and Turnbow for Clement and Craig Hansen. 2) trade Kevin Mench for AA fodder. 3) sign Jose Guillen for 2 years and $11 million, with a $7.5 million option. 4) trade Brady Clark for AAA fodder 5) sign Javy Lopez for around 2 years and $6 million Suddenly that puts our rotation at around $29 million. Bullpen at $8.5-9.5 million. IF at about $4.5 million OF at around $9.5-10.5 million C at around 5.5-6 That's a total of $57-59 million lineup: Weeks Hart Fielder Guillen Koskie Hall Hardy C bench (some getting plenty of starts): Cirillo, Gross, Nix/Gwynn/Krynzel, Rottino, new SS Rotation: Sheets Clement Capuano Davis Bush Pen: Cordero Tbow/Hansen Wise Shouse Capellan Villanueva Sarfate I'd also consider Eveland for the pen, and love to sign/acquire a lefty like Steve Kline or Ray King. Kelly Wunsch could be an option as a minor league free agent
  20. colby, looking at your first post in the thread, I'm a bit confused. I thought they were doing away with the DFE process. Is that effective after the 2007 June Draft? I guess that would make sense, since some teams didn't sign guys, but planned to follow them. So changing that process midstream for the 2006 draftees would leave many scouting directors and JuCo players angry.
  21. I saw one Vinny double. He reached out and poked a blooper to RF that fell about mid-way out, 2 feet inside the line. Nice piece of protecting there. Braun was a treat today in BP. I've seen some guys hit impressive Fall League shows, but what struck me was the sound the ball makes off his bat. It's like taking a good golfer and a bad golfer at the driving range. The good golfer hits nearly every driver at a consistent launch angle and consistently in the sweet spot. The bad golfer might have 10-degrees of variance in launch angle, including tops and popups. Well, Braun is like that good golfer. Every BP pitch leaves the bat with the same sound, same trajectory. I was a bit disappointed when he struck out in the 9th/10th on the shoulder high heater (I couldn't show the emotion). Sarfate showed legit velocity today. Both have been very nice to me when I've had the chance to interact with them. I thought about getting an autographed ball, but decided against it. I have them from the last two Falls, though.
  22. perhaps the Crew should consider moving Capellan to a starting role. He was rather ineffective in setup this year. I know he's young, but if they sign some relievers, and he's comfortable starting, then perhaps it would work best.
  23. pretty simple, I would trade neither
  24. colby, I saw him this afternoon. It surprised me, as I had heard Rottino would be replacing him on the roster. Guess that rumor was false. the winning side in the showcase gets $500 per person, the losers get the pride of knowing they were selected to play in the game. Looks like they needed deeper rosters. The expectation was that starters would go 3-4 innings, but that obviously didn't happen
  25. rumor is Braun will miss the Allstar/showcase game with a strained hammy
