  1. Just saw that Ruddy Lugo has his ERA below 4 in Tampa. Was he traded with Tyler Houston for Diggins and Nance? Also, Eliezer Alfonzo continues to do alright. Hard to believe the Brewers would let a halfway decent catcher go.
  2. wow, amazing Jenkins beat that throw since he basically stopped at 2nd
  3. as a sometimes Bucks fan, I was very turned off by the Magloire trade. We traded our 2nd best player and a first rounder only to get a post player we knew would move on and Bobby Simmons (aka, the lesser version of Mason)
  4. Is there any possible way that Kolb is even a C free agent? who knows. He did have some saves last year, and his numbers are better than one would think based on how awefule he has looked this year. I agree though. It's unlikely these two get offered arby. The fear is that they just might accept
  5. SoCal, the reason I included Bell and Kolb is more because of the value they have, yet most of us fans don't understand. I guarantee you people will be shocked this offseason when mediocre relievers with half the track-record of Kolb get 3/$13 million. As for Bell, it's like I said. Some team always wants him. We were all shocked he went to the Phillies for that much money, yet apparently others (I think the Crew, included) were bidding on him.
  6. It's possible to trade these guys, too. Remember, we gave up Matt Yeatman and Gerry Oakes (two exciting young hard throwers) for Matt Kinney and Javier Valentin. The Twins made the move, because both were out of options and wouldn't make the team, so they got some young arms rather than getting nothing for them.
  7. one comment Patrick. It's nitpicking, but isn't Robinson coming back from labrum surgery? I may be thinking of someone else. In general, I'd prefer it if it were Tommy John surgery As for RyDogg's comment, it's quite possible that between Kolb, Ohka, Graffanino (has he been a free agent before?), and Bell, that we'll be adding 2-4 draft picks. I say this because my thought process (as GM) would be "who would I like back on a 1 year deal, but expect will sign for big bucks for longer term?" I would think Ohka and Graffanino definitely fit the bill. Kolb might, too, as relievers seem to get overpaid. Someone might just pounce on him before the arbitration offering deadline, wanting to add his sinker. And Bell is tricky. He could be brought back if the club thinks Koskie is done. A 1 year deal for around $2-4 million wouldn't kill the club, and it always seems that teams out there are willing to give him a multiyear deal despite mediocre numbers, because of his leadership, attitude, and clubhouse presence.
  8. I don't mind it when it alternates lefty-righty, however, it seems that the good teams are arranged based on personnel rather than which side they bat from.
  9. it's amazing that Wright has probably 7 years in the big leagues, but still can't throw a strike with his fastball
  10. wow...great game to win. made some mistakes, esp on the basepaths, but wow. I know it'd be expensive, but what about a Jenkins/Mench platoon?
  11. No Hart was out at 1st, they called Fielder safe but he never went to 2nd because he thought he was out, Pujols then threw to 2nd and Belliard ran him down. yeah, the replays showed that..not sure why I saw the ump give a safe sign
  12. what just happened? The ump called Hart safe at first.
  13. Nice inning there by Villanueva. Maybe we can get a lead for once
  14. I was hoping for Rottino somewhere. I didn't see him with a tough play, but he seemed to do alright behind the dish last night
  15. Ewwww It's a mere 205 at bats, but Gross is leading the team in OBP at .384. Since a full season is roughly 600 AB, I'll multiple his BB totals by 2.5 to give the estimate if he had 500 at bats 37 2b, 22 hr, 87 bb, 145 K's. the reason I mention him for leadoff is mainly because we have a lack of alternatives. I like Weeks there, but maybe we could better utlilize him hitting 3rd. Based on current personel, something like: Gross Hardy/Koskie Weeks Fielder Hart Jenkins Hall catcher As for the topic at hand...I think Braun will be knocking on the door by May. knowing our luck, someone will get hurt and that'll open the door for him. Same for Yo.
  16. feel that the OBP stat is somewhat overrated when it comes to leadoff hitters it may be overrated by fans, but underappreciated by ballplayers and managers. a .365 obp isn't terrible for a leadoff man. I am a Gwynn supporter, but I'd rather he begin in AAA. He's shown a propensity to increase his numbers the more he plays at a given level, and it could benefit him to work on things while playing every day. a .300 average is nice, but not great in the PCL. With more time in AAA his .360 OBP should improve into the .380-.400 range. Plus, his struggles since being recalled aren't helping. I'd rather bat Gross leadoff at this point
  17. i just don't see how people are so down on Davis. Maybe it's just sbrylski06 and JohnBriggs12 who seem to think he's easily replaceable, but over the last 3 years he has this line in 103 starts (including espn.com's projections over the next two outings): 34-35 4.03 ERA 1.37 WHIP 532 K's and 597hits allowed are outstanding in 636 IP, but 272 BB is a few too many. And 59 homers is very good. His WHIP is skewed by the 1.40 rate for this year. If he'd finally cut down on the walks by a mere 10%, then it's quite possible his ERA would drop to around 3.75-3.90 with a whip of around 1.2-1.3. He averages roughly 6 innings per start. So folks, what you have here is a durable lefty who has a fairly high strikeout rate, eats innings, and doesn't allow homers. The only chink in his armor is walks. That translates to roughly $7-8 million per season on the open market. In a down year, he could get $9 million per season. I can't fathom trading Davis, because in 2008 when Braun, Weeks, Hall, Hardy, Fielder, etc are slugging the ball out of the park, we might wish we had kept Davis. At the earliest, you consider trading Davis at the deadline next year, depending on how Villanueva, Eveland, Jackson, Gallardo, Dillard, Parra, et al are doing. But I don't understand trading Davis just to sign Padilla, Marquis, etc. It seems a consensus that people want Villanueva to get a crack at the 5th spot.
  18. On the other hand, you could make a case for none of the AAA free agents to come back. do we have anyone capable of playing 1b in AAA? So I guess that's why I'd love to have Koonce back. I think Nelson could be leaving the organization soon
  19. I've long liked Padilla. But with a rotation 1-4 of Sheets, Davis, Cappy, and Bush, I think I'd rather break in one of the youngsters. I'd rather it be in the more traditional 5th starter's role, where he gets skipped, and has to do some work out of the pen. That's because we should be able to win games with our top 4. I like letting a youngster get his feet wet in the 5th spot. Ideally, the organization needs to figure out what they have in Mench. It seems likely that they open 2007 with Gross in LF/CF and Hart in RF. Jenkins seems a 50-50 proposition for RF, and I'd give Mench a 75% chance of manning LF on opening day. I think Clark will be dealt. And I would be comfortable with Nix and Krynzel as the 4th and 5th OF's, since both can play defense. The reason I mention Krynzel is that his skills profile decently for the 25th man. Of course, if it comes down to him or Rottino, I'd take Vinny.
  20. Thanks a lot for posting that Mass. And thanks to John for writing those comments/descriptions. As was said in the other thread (I think by senatorshriv), I'd love to hear some assessment of the OFers in the system. I'd also love to hear thoughts of an expert on Dillard, Jones, Hammond, and Garrison
  21. just to interrupt...has there been any new discussion of free agent compensation? they agreed to change the draft rules, pending further agreements in the last CBA. I haven't heard the draft mentioned at all. In fact, the only topic I've heard this time is working on improving the revenue sharing systems from both sides' perspectives.
  22. not a bad assessment. What'll be real interesting is seeing what BA has to say about the state of the organization. A bunch of guys got promoted off of prospect elligibility, and the entire A/A+ squads seemed to do well. Plus, R. Mercedes had a solid year in Helena. I don't know who they think has stepped forward, but it's possible they could claim we have 20 legit prospects, or just 4-5.
  23. okay, so how did this happen: "Felipe Lopez singles on a line drive to right fielder Corey Hart. Nook Logan scores. Alfonso Soriano scores. Bernie Castro scores. " how do 3 runs score on a single?
  24. - Female friends who continually date jerks and scumbags, then are the only one shocked everytime when things don't work out because the guy turns out to be a jerk. along these lines: that the best looking women, even those with good personalities, date these aforementioned guys. 90% of guys look at it and ask why she's with the jerk, but somehow the girls are blinded, until they break up.
  25. Miller (Det) is in the big leagues, too
