  1. Nobody was hitting today, but it seems that rightfield and catcher are just killing us. Especially rightfield where you really need a big time slugger in there. AJAY, can you really complain about what Grieve did today? Pounded one to CF on a line that required a leaping offbalance grab from Burny to save a run, a broken bat single to left, and a line drive to the track in left (any air and it's a homer)
  2. I was there, and although I questioned it at the time, I understood Ben bunting in that situation. Ben is fairly good at bunting on the whole. The real problem wasn't Ben bunting, but as my friend and I determined before the pitch, it was having an absolute truck on second base in Chad Moeller. We were confident that no matter where that bunt went, with the leadoff that Moeller had, he'd be easily out at 3rd. The bunt was a good one, just Moeller is as slow as they come. Although I was amazed to see him beat out an infield hit. And can we stop playing Ginter already? He just looks terrible up there each game. He had a very interesting 3 hit game, in which he made solid contact with one ball. Two of the hits were gifts. I felt bad for Grieve, since he hit two frozen ropes to deep in the OF that were caught. Overbay also was crushing balls right at people. I can't say the Brewers deserved to lose this game. Sure they hit into a few DP's, but it seemed that most of their outs were crushed. Like in the first inning Pods hit one that Clayton could barely react to, then the last out was also laced right at someone. Also...Pods, next time Hall is being given second base, and you aren't going to put the bunt in play cause it's head-high, please don't foul it off...you fouled off balls 3 times that were out of the zone when Billy was jogging into second. Shoddy defense by Pods, and Overbay hurt us, as I think both allowed runs to score. Great throw by Jenkins...not sure why Colorado would let a runner be out by 30 feet
  3. And one can't help but be intrigued by Justin Barnes for atleast a few starts to see how his position swap is going. Igor, wasn't he a DFE signing as something like a 3b or OF? If so, then it explains why I was scratching my head last week when I saw he pitched.
  4. I don't think I would worry about the Brewers signing Bowman because it probably won't happen. If it does, adding a player like that to our system is pure gravy. Exactly. I would guess that the Brewers will try to sign their main objectives, then come back to him and offer whatever is left in their budget. He'd probably require second-round money at the very least. But I have to agree that the video is impressive to say the least.
  5. went on Thurs and Fri, and will be there Thurs
  6. 19000+ would be a good night for a Tues. I'm hoping for around 23k though. Fans are really talking
  7. Anyone who has seen Hendrickson pitch at Indy correct me if I am wrong about his stuff, but I think that Ben Hendrickson is going to be a 5 starter at best. I saw him several times in the Fall League, and I think he could be a 4 man right now, and eventually top out as a 2 or 3. Does he throw 95? no. But he changes speeds very well, has devastating offspeed stuff (as we saw), and they don't hit balls hard off of him. Lots of groundouts.
  8. actually, as exciting as it is to win a state championship, I get the feeling that this may be the last chance for one of the others to pitch in high school, so perhaps they'll let them share the game. It's not great for memories being told you'll pitch in a game, then because of a change in venue, having that opportunity taken away. But it still would take a lot of guts to risk losing the championship because of personal honor
  9. great job fellas, and a special thanks to Edod. It's always enjoyable seeing a fellow fan compile what happens in those games, since they can add what the announcer says.. That's why they beat game logs any day. And anyone wanna bet that Manny Parra will be in Huntsville soon? We have one of the braintrust a few weeks ago saying he's only going to HD for a few starts, and tonight he dominates while also getting through 7 innings.
  10. Wow...just watched Baker's video. Based on mechanics I will say that I think he will have the most productive big league career of the Rice Quartet. The only thing I see tha tlooks goofy is his leg kick from the stretch, but that should be easy to fix almost looks a little like Sheets...kind of scary
  11. I do worry about sending two lefties on back to back nights. I wish they could juggle the rotation a little more. Not a factor in my mind. One throws fastball-cutter-changeup (mainly fastball and cutter), with the heater at about 84. The other throws about 90 with a curve, change, and slider.
  12. Adams and Wise would seem the frontrunners, unless someone is nursing an injury. Ginter and Hall would seem safe. So unless Liefer has an option left, it would seem a pitcher or Durrington.
  13. Wise in....so Capuano tomorrow, unless Adams gets a look. So who goes down?
  14. I can't recall Geoff ever having as many check swings as he's had the last week or so
  15. Come on Lyle and Billy, back to back doubles would be nice
  16. Gotta say, Hall plays a pretty nice 3b. I'm not saying he, Ginter, or Helms is better than the other, as they all have benefits, but Hall's looking darn good.
  17. Anyone else notice that Lyle's head is the key to his approach? When he keeps it on the ball, he drives it. When he pulls it off, he often strikes out (seems on stuff away)
  18. Trade Ben Grieve to an AL team fast. He really should be a DH. That play was ugly. AJAY, what happened? I just got home
  19. I say go win it, kid!
  20. I'd rather face Pettite than Oswalt. Works out well that Oswalt doesn't square off with either Sheets and Davis...improves their chances
  21. So let me get this right....we are facing the Astros, yet we don't see Pettitte, Clemens, and--most importantly--Wade Miller. Wow. I'm feeling surprisingly good about this series.
  22. Wow, a rather uninspiring group of pitchers going today....yuck!
  23. Igor, I guess it depends on what you view as college players. I tend to group JuCo players more with HS players than college players. The reason is that we're still signing them at age 19 or 20 rather than 21 or 22. Although I guess the competition is more similar to college level than HS
  24. Keischnick is SO overated as a reliever. He has allowed 9 of 16 inherited baserunners to score. Yost has also said that he prefers having Brooks start off innings, so he's probably aware of this. I would think the only reason he brought Brooks in then is due to the success he's had this year and last year vs lefties.
