  1. From the minute I read about the Gomez trade, I immediately drew comparisons between Nelson Cruz (back when a Brewers prospect) and Santana. Both outstanding defenders capable of playing CF in a pinch, tremendous power potential, decent average, lots of walks, and strikeout a ton. He's been fine, but I feel his best is yet to come!
  2. You think the best prospect in our system is a left-handed Mike Fiers? The topic Clancy responded to was his sleepers, not who the best prospects are.
  3. I'm happy with our trio in CF so far. Broxton and Flores have shown nice range. Given their ages and nice minor league numbers, I'd be happy to let them just keep playing, hoping that one of them starts to play closer to their minor league numbers
  4. MrTPlush, you say some of the weirdest things! Some rather incomprehensible things in this game thread. It add some comic value
  5. Surgery for what? The Red Sox made up a phantom injury to put him on the DL. They're on the way to releasing him. I propose acquiring him cheap, then spinning him off next year. Might be able to get prospects out of both deals, assuming he commits himself. People are just assuming that because he's gained weight, that he won't commit himself to the sport. That's like saying that once people become wealthy, they just get lazy...no, they usually keep working their asses off
  6. Wily needs to have a Roy Halladay-like demotion. Maybe not to A-ball like Doc, but I'd send him to Biloxi to play with a good team. I love Wily's talent. Sometimes I think he needs one of those angry talks. Remember when Yost once came out and yelled at Vargas on the mound? Basically, if he's failing to live up to the standards of a team projected to finish in last place, then he needs a kick in the butt.
  7. shouldn't that be in blue? Hill should have been released in spring training, except he has no competition and is seen as a solid veteran influence. We have nobody worthwhile at 3b in the minor leagues. We are what, $50 million below last year's budget? Attanasio has pointed out that the team is going to pocket a huge sum of money this year. We're one of the few teams in baseball that could take a chance on a guy like this. He's at a good age, he's lost the weight before, he's going to be frustrated and motivated to improve his standing, and we have nobody that's as good as 300+ lb Panda, let along 250 lb Panda (who can win MVPs). It's hilarious how short-sighted people are saying, "um no thanks." This is the kind of comeback player that would be a nice acquisition to help the team both short and long-term. And who thinks Panda couldn't put up a terrific batting line in the NL Central?
  8. Ok, I know we're not buyers. My thinking is that if the Red Sox traded him to us with say $50 million, we'd essentially be taking a 5 year $28 million flier on him. If he loses weight and starts hitting like he can, we could spin him off and next prospects. If we're willing to eat more money they may include a mediocre prospect
  9. In fairness, 2 of Salas' 4 runs were allowed once Bradley came in to throw batting practice. Does he have any decent pitches?
  10. JohnBriggs, why demote Peralta in a year in which expectations are low? If we're going to stink, we might as well let kids have a chance to work through struggles. We stuck with an awful Gomez for a number of years.
  11. Because CC lacks creativity like most managers. Set in their ways with how staffs are used. That game should've been pieced together from the 2nd inning on. Right away when he was in trouble in the second. You have the day off tomorrow and a guy like Cravy is going no where. Send him down if you blow him out early in the season and get the next rag arm up. Stupid managing and a horrible start today didn't give this team a prayer at competiting. A little harsh, isn't it? Cravy gave up 2 of Jungmann's runs. Plus, this year isn't about wins and losses, it's about development. We'll see Broxton, Flores, Rivera, and the pitching staff take many lumps this year. But that's because we want them to have chances to succeed, struggle, and make adjustments. I know we were all frustrated early with Gomez and happy to hand the job to Tony Plush, but in the end our patience was rewarded. Gomez got 3 seasons of failure, I think we can give guys more than a few innings or bad starts
  12. Can't remember...who did we trade Eric Fryer from? I loved following him in A-ball as a LF/C as he put up good OBP numbers and steals. We dealt Komatsu for Hairston. I think we sent Fryer to the Yankees.
  13. Does the LCL heal itself? I wonder if it's possible for him to attempt strengthening the knee and nearby muscles, wear a brace during the season, then have surgery (if necessary) in the offseason.
  14. 3-3 is a solid start. This is a tough April schedule. The pitching is better than many people give credit to, especially given that Wily has thus far been our weak link. With Davies coming up next weekend, the rotation becomes stronger. I haven't looked at the statistics thus far, although I have a feeling they are--at least thus far--telling a story of an improved offense.
  15. Brew4U, I think it's a little optimistic to think we could flip Hill for something. Most likely he'll be either relegated to backup once Rivera gets a chance, or simply released. Also, wanted to mention that if the Brewers' CF's were in the game the other night, Seggy's inside-the-park HR would have been an out.
  16. Brew4u, Wily might still struggle. He really has only one pitch still--his 94-96 mph sinker. His slider has been the ultimate tease for years where he'll throw a few dazzling ones, but it rarely fools guys to get swings and misses
  17. just wanted to point out that the game is 4-0 thanks--in part--to Broxton's steal. I know it's popular to use hindsight to criticize stolen base attempts, but we don't know what the team knows. The team may have planned to run on the catcher or pitcher, they may have liked the circumstance, someone may have missed a sign, etc. I'd like the Brewers to be aggressive when the situations warrant it.
  18. Nobody ever wants to be in Fresno. It's a dump you drive through, but don't hope to stay...like Gary. Why are the Astros in Fresno? They helped Round Rock become a AAA town...when did that affiliation end?
  19. Braun looked safe at third. Granted, if he's called safe, Carter may get a different pitch that results in a Gidp. Brewers must have had a scouting report they liked on the catcher or pitcher.
  20. Doesn't there have to be at least 1 failed effort to steal the plans, as many _______'s (can't remember their species)? I guess the question is if they die in the successful effort or a previous attempt. We should assume there are many attempts.
  21. Funketown, I'd take Duke as a top program any day over UNC and their dirty program. Duke runs a clean ship, produces great players. I may be open in my dislike of the Badgers, but my most-hated program is UNC. I get tired of Duke occasionally being so good, but I'll take them over Kentucky and UNC any day.
  22. Can't find the 1993 NCAA tournament box score, but Santa Clara's Randy Winn played on the basketball team (knocked off #2 seeded Arizona), however, given that he played only 5 games that year, I'll bet he didn't get into the upset win.
  23. One thing is that perhaps Stearns is a bigger advocate for holding back service time than most GMs. In that case, why not hold them back in the minors at a lower level longer?
  24. Glad to see Nova come through after the let-downs the last few years. Such a solid program, good kids, and fun system to watch with the 4 wing attack. They were clearly the best team I saw all season, but I just couldn't bring myself to have them over Michigan St in the Finals. Shocked to see UNC do this well, after how vulnerable they looked at times. Great run, great game
