  1. Umm.. why? If those guys have proven all they need to in the minors, they have no business being held down. I'm really sick of this idea that we have to hold onto these players like they are golden unicorns when it comes to service time. Eventually these players have to come up and play and those three very well could be opening day 2017. And there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. See that is the thing they are golden unicorns. We are a small market team and an extra year or them not hitting Super Two status is huge to us. HUGE If they end up being anything close to All Stars you will be really happy that we waited till a few months into a lost season to call them up. Teams in the thick of a pennant race won't put these players on the roster till that deadline passes in most cases. Even big market teams will follow this model. It has immense value to any baseball club. There's a reason that fans think like MrTPlush, but organizations no longer do. They have realized that there's more to it than simply service time and arbitration clocks. Teams should not rush players to the majors. But teams have realized that by calling up a player when they're ready RATHER than delaying it for service time reasons, teams can build an incredible amount of goodwill with players and agents, may be able to lock up players long term in affordable arbitration-year buyouts, and will also speed up the player's big league adjustment period. With Braun, there were legitimate concerns, especially with his defense. A few years ago teams were regularly holding back prospects back in the minors. It doesn't appear to happen as much anymore.
  2. I'm just a youth & high school coach and in 3 seconds could tell you that Gray had/has way more projectable mechanics than Jungmann. Jungmann starts toward the 3rd base dugout and then throws across his body. His mechanics are a disaster Wow sounds like you should get a good promotion here shortly. I will take the word of what the scouts were saying. If it was that simple he wouldn't have been a Top 10 prospect in the draft. And in reply to Jungmann hitting 98 he wasn't consistently hitting 98. He worked in the 95 range back then though. Now I'm happy if he hits 92 for one inning. Last year Jungmann was regularly throwing 93-94. That was shocking and contrary to what scouting reports had said
  3. Jericho, I thought Carter had very strong OBP skills for a guy that hits for a very low average. Last year his OBP was fine given his pathetic avg
  4. I sure hope that Nelson continues to improve, Peralta figures things out (I'd like to see him pitch more vertically in the zone...up down up down), Hader learns to get to 6-7 innings, Lopez shakes off a few bad starts in iffy weather, Jungmann tightens up his mechanics, and Davies returns to normal. Then it'll be fun looking back at all the doom and gloom forecasts and knee-jerk reactions.
  5. Ortega would make sense. He pitches deep into games. Yes it's short rest, but he barely surpassed 80 pitches. Might be nice to have an efficient strike thrower. I could also see Burgos getting his first shot in years
  6. I really want to see Flores play this year. His minor league numbers are nice. They profile very well. He's likely still adapting to MLB pitching while shaking off the rust of his horrible injury
  7. Zack (or Zach) Taylor, since I taught him in class. Good kid
  8. If Hader's as good as we're hoping, he won't need all 3 option years.
  9. Not going to happen 0% chance...none. Especially this close to the cut off date for an extra year. Won't see him till we get through a bit of 2017 after the cut off date then. There is just little reason to lose so much team control. Given that the audition would likely be for a couple starts, I have no problem with Hader. We wouldn't lose team control, as he'd likely go down at some point. But the benefits are that he could try to face big league hitters and learn what he needs to go back and work on. Someone else said he shouldn't be learning on a crappy team, but I'd rather he learn while we're crappy than while we're counting on him
  10. dacbrewers, yes, but that was an exception due to the Brewers' firesale. They called up a backup SS for infield depth, a starting pitcher in Lopez. Anyone else? Reality is that haven't done this much over the years.
  11. dacbrewers, the entire western portion of the PCL is known for offense. So it's not just Colorado Springs. Additionally, the Brewers rarely call players up from AA, but many other teams do without players skipping a beat. The talent between the 2 levels isn't all that different, it's just the age and experience of the players that is
  12. Not trying to be a jerk but how does a guy Ops'ing under .500 outperform your expectations? You said it yourself. I thought he'd get cut in spring. I've actually been surprised with his defense and thought that Tuesday night--had there not been strong winds--he would have hit a huge homer. And Brew4u, why would that sound like being a jerk? .500 OPS is better than I expected. Hill has been terrible for several years.
  13. not true about the 20% rule. His Major league salary will likely be the league minimum in 2017 (likely around $512,000), however, his contract will include a lower salary for minor leagues. I don't know what that is, but guys on a 40-man roster make significantly more than minor leaguers not on a 40-man
  14. He hasn't played all that much in the big leagues. Given his age and relative inexperience, he could continue to develop quite a bit. I'd like to see the Brewers target mid-2017 as a trade for him. But obviously, anyone is welcome to make an offer
  15. Rivera profiles as a Clint Barmes type, but with even better defense. I have no problem with him being a backup or part-time player. In fact, I'd have had him starting at 3b much more. Hill is actually outperforming my expectations.
  16. good catch guys. I was hoping there was some genuine optimism!
  17. Then you play 82 games at home and 738+ innings some one is likely to have a major injury. nice, so you're expecting us to make the playoffs!!!!
  18. Turborickey, it's about buying low and selling high. I'd take a chance on anyone if I felt I could later turn them around into an asset. If Lincecum's workouts are bad, then don't give him a try. I'll bet some teams are happy they gave flameouts like Scott Kazmir, Jose Bautista, Nelson Cruz, Edwin Encarnacion, Carlos Gomez, Ryan Vogelsong, Colby Lewis, Jake Arrieta, et al an opportunity.
  19. FVBrewerFan, actually the A's recently received a proposal in cooperation with the city. For 15 years the team tried moving to San Jose or Santa Clara, but the Giants blocked it. Oakland is afraid of losing the Raiders, and more willing to work with the A's, including a waterfront stadium.
  20. I'm curious how he'll come back with adequate rest and healthy hips. I could see him having a revival. Not best pitcher in the game type, but pretty solid
  21. Anderson isn't a very good pitcher. We expected more of Davies than we expected of him. We traded for him for depth.
  22. nate, it depends. They could get better and dominate, and be top 5 talent next year. But the argument is that they are better served practicing against NBA players and playing 5-10 minutes per game rather than dominating college ball. I'd rather see them stay in college, but I'm not them. Of course, my basis is past MU guys--Wade stayed 3 years, Butler and Crowder came out of JuCo and finished their eligibility at Marquette, etc
  23. And I don't recall any reports of Jeffress throwing 100 in high school
  24. Zbtmb, hanks for looking it up. I thought I remembered him a 4-sport athlete in HS with D1 offers in other sports.
  25. Just curious, but have any of the HS kids that threw 100 ever amounted to anything? Colt Griffin...who else? That's a lot of stress and torque on a still-developing body.
