I like the Turang and Mitchell picks. I'd like to target guys with good line drives and easy power, not necessarily pure sluggers. I think of the Overbay and Cirillo types as being the future MLB response to Statcast-derived pitching. So basically pure hitters that make contact rather than launch angle studs.
the simple reason divisional games help is that they both count as a win for us and a loss for the rival. In effect, one game produces two desirable outcomes. Now it would be really nice if we can take 3 of 4 from the Reds before the break (leaving us up 8 games). Really crazy to play 7 straight against the Reds. Overall, taking 4-5 of the 7 would be huge.
Hummel with three walks and two runs. What more does he have to do to earn a call-up to Milwaukee? Pretty sure a callup would be a precursor to him getting DFA'd. He hasn't been on the 40-man roster, and he would inevitably be part of the roster churn. They'd likely rather keep him in AAA for depth and development now.
Not really clones. From what it sounds like, Tellez has a low strikeout rate. I think there's a good chance they they both are on the team next year. Vogelbach DH/1b, Tellez DH/1b, Hiura 1b/DH/utility OF/2b
Yeli has never been a true power hitter. He’s been a whole-field hitter with a good eye that manages to hit quite a few homers. He’ll be fine. It would help if we had another bat in our lineup. He’s missing hittable pitches, but he’s also being pitched carefully
Except A-Rod signed as a free agent with the Rangers before being traded to the Yankees with cash for Alfonso Soriano. The M’s never compensated anyone to take A-Rod
Cody Ponce tomorrow. He wasn’t great in our minors as a reliever, now he’s starting against us. Feeling good about our chances if the good Lauer shows up
the Brewers previously announced tomorrow is a bullpen day. So I'm guessing Ashby won't be activated until tomorrow, and will possibly pitch the first 2-4 innings.
Vogelbach is cheap and will be cheap next year. I’ve believed all off-season that he was kept around with hopes of the DH becoming universally adopted (initially for this year, but now for next). Since he’s been adequate at the bag, that helps both short and long term
This is pretty harsh. They were both highly successful defensive players that were able to start in MLB for a number of years. Is any MLB player a failure? I’d argue no. Now they were likely overvalued due to their defensive skills and position, but that’s a fault of these lists. Just like OBP Is the more important component of OPS, arm and glove are less important of the 5 tools.
