  1. In Vegas I have money on Hader, Burnes and Woodruff. I can’t vote deGrom due to the lack of starts. It really hurts us that our pitcher with the most wins is Suter
  2. Speaking of the interstate system and the highways, anyone else remember the bridges to nowhere over 894 near Layton? I once found a map online of what the original Milwaukee freeway system was supposed to look like and it would have definitely made for different traffic patterns with the Miller Park freeway being properly completed and a northern east-west corridor parallel to 94.
  3. wow, Labor Day weekend in AZ! I think the Brewers have had June games here for the last 5 years, and I'm always out of town with the school year over. Of course I'd love to go see them in San Diego one of these years, but it's always in April or May on a Monday-Wed. Never a weekend series. At least that's Finals week and maybe I can sneak away
  4. When I was in college traveling with our school’s women’s tennis team to Hawaii, one girl asked how they have interstates in Hawaii. We told her there was a tunnel to the mainland
  5. Remember there are a lot of checkboxes teams want to check, and avg or slg are only part of it. Maturity, challenging a player, defense, etc. Turang has been a solid performer all season at a young age. Given that we’ve been playing Wilson at SS, I think it’s appropriate Nashville gets a real SS
  6. Well, since he never made the MLB squad, no, he isn’t. Correct, and MLB salary would have been different from a signing bonus.
  7. Not many closers have the power curveball he used to. I wonder if it's still pretty sharp. The modern philosophy of using 4-seamers at the top of the zone should suit him well.
  8. And I don’t get this. We solved polio. We solved measles, whooping cough, mumps, etc. Then a bunch of discredited docs wrote books questioning vaccines and we now have parts of the country with lower vaccination rates than third world countries. My generation never saw the horrors of those sicknesses because they were eradicated when we grew up, but we were all vaccinated. now those are on the rise because we aren’t learning from history
  9. In fairness I know two vaccinated folks that have significantly worse symptoms now than I had it pre-vaccine in December. They’re not hospitalization sick, but still not getting better after a week.
  10. No he’s not losing any MLB salary at this point. As a side note, it’s been reported they never made an offer. Isn’t that a requirement to get draft pick compensation the following year? At least I thought it used to be.
  11. Except this was never the case. They said it was quite concerning in January 2020. They never said it was no bid deal. In fact March of 2020 is when they encouraged everyone to shut down. I don't think the CDC has botched this. I think people expect them to be all-knowing. The CDC makes recommendations based on the preponderance of evidence. Last year we had an administration (that I helped vote in back in 2016) that tried to bully and belittle the CDC's best guidance. Under political pressure and extreme resistance by a part of the electorate, the CDC often massaged their recommendations to try to avoid covid fatigue. In 2021 the CDC has been very clear in saying that EVERYONE should get vaccinated, and that non-vaccinated people shouldn't be going out in public, especially without masking and taking precautions. The problem is that America has a free-rider problem that we all saw coming, with a large portion of the population wanting others to get vaccinated to achieve herd immunity, but they themselves not getting vaccinated. As the CDC has been clearly stating, the current epidemic in the US is an epidemic of the unvaccinated. While some are having re-infections, most are linked to the J&J from what I've heard, which was only somewhere around 65-80% (If I recall correctly) effective protecting against initial COVID strains (although over 90% effective in minimizing severity of sickness) I feel very good about returning to the classroom having had COVID and then being fully vaccinated. But if they offer a booster in the fall, I will be happy to get it. Still, I do worry about our kids and families as last year I had around 50 students that were either immunocompromised or had vulnerable family members.
  12. just a reminder that you can never have enough pitching prospects. Boy.... Eveland, Banda, Inman, Braddock, Odorizzi, Sarfate, etc were all crowd favorites. Only one ever did anything.
  13. Nah, he’s similar to BillyMcKinney, and since he was DFA’d he’s been with two other organizations already and likely will be out of LA when they activate Trea Turner and Scherzer. Vogelbach is arbitration eligible and like McKinney has yet to get himself established as an every day major league player. He’ll be available this winter as a free agent even if he is DFA’d. I’ve always thought they kept Vogey for this year to be our DH next year
  14. Why? He was crushing it down there and we lost Vogey. He had to come up to help out. Now that we have the depth, he needs to accept it's been a rough year, go down, and work on achieving goals that can help him be successful going forward. He has the power, the bat speed, etc.
  15. As others have said, we gave up nothing of consequence. This trade works out great for us on paper.
  16. You guys did great with my vague late night post. My thought was—after reading the Turang thread— to think about what it would take to part with him. I also wanted to think about our other highly marketable assets. Too often our fans will say we gave up on someone when in actuality we traded a valuable asset that other teams desired. I don’t want to trade Mitchell or Small. I’d rather not trade Turang (lefty bat, OBP skills, defense, premium position). I wonder if teams are as interested in Taylor as I am right now. He plays good defense, hustles, and seems to spray hard hit balls all over the field without excessive launch angle. I would think a rebuilding club would salivate over him. With Lauer, he’s a lefty with decent velocity but no premier outpitch. He could be a valuable trade chip as well.
  17. Just trying to think of what we could piece together for trades. I'd hate to trade Taylor, but I also see him as blocked for playing time in the short-term and being chased by Mitchell and Frelick in the long-run. I'd hate to part with our lefty pitching depth, but Ashby could be the basis of the return for a strong player. For big trade only: Turang Ashby Taylor Hiura Lauer Houser Feliciano Gray Smaller trade: File Torres-Costa
  18. Good news is Taylor is likely going to keep logging ABs
  19. Are the rules for NDFA the same as rounds 11-20? There were likely a lot of talented HS and college kids that went I drafted and perhaps some could be offered big money to lure them. Or we just allocate this money towards adding salary at the deadline
  20. When reflecting on recent post-season appearances, the Brewers have had several similarities over the years. Strong bullpens, September surges, and other things come to mind. But it’s great to hear the Brewers being careful not to abuse the arms because one trend has likely cost us the last few years—Ace injuries 2018–Jimmy Nelson gets hurt, necessitating us using openers 2019- Brandon Woodruff gets hurt, limiting his pitch count in Washington 2020- Corbin Burnes gets hurt. We could also point out 2008 (Ben Sheets getting hurt), except he was hurt when we acquired Sabathia. We also had 2011 or 2012 (can’t remember) with Shaun Marcum battling injuries. OR even ‘82 with Rollie. My point is that it’s good to hear the Brewers handling the rotation with kid gloves because we need our big 3 at full strength for a deep post-season run.
  21. Yelich at 1B? Ever seen him play there before? it's something to consider one day. Wasn't he drafted as a 1b? I have no stats to back this up, but he looks very limited out there. Was at the game today and his lazy route and grab allowed the Royal to tag up and take 2nd. He's not really throwing well or running things down. But a defense with Taylor and Cain would be really good.
  22. What makes me anxious with Lauer is that he doesn’t really have a 2nd plus pitch. It’s just 92-95 mph fastball. His secondary offerings are pretty non-descript. Yet I was totally on-board with Davies, as I felt his success in 2019 was smoke and mirrors with declining velocity
  23. The beat reporters have been saying since Friday that we’re seeing Peralta against ChiSox I wouldn’t be shocked to see him in the pen for an inning today.
  24. I know that when he was doing pre-Olympic work, there was a comment about an injury. Do we know what the injury was? Was surgery required? I've loved the idea of a 2-way lefty reliever and pinch hitter, and haven't seen him since the report of an injury.
