I think it goes back to the ridiculous decision to keep 6 outfielders and only 5 infielder on the roster. Now, of course, it's 3 catchers and only 5 outfielders, but still Counsell is the only infielder on the bench. So it's basically the same problem with having only 2 catchers, you can't use Counsell as a pinch hitter because if someone gets injured, there's no one else left to play. It's stupid that a manager who supposedly values veteran experience can't use his most experienced pinch hitter. Though I'm not sure why Counsell can't get a few more starts at SS once in a while.

I totally agree with this. I think it's sometimes easy to forget that Managers have to manage people and not just stat sheets. Gomez, regardless if he may be somewhat delusional perhaps, see's himself as a top of the order hitter with speed. He did work hard this spring trying to improve his approach, it's just that he can't recognize pitches so he will always have poor plate discipline. Roenicke probably feels he has to give Gomez a few weeks to prove he doesn't belong in the 2 hole before moving him down in the order. In addition, with Hart sidelined, Roenicke didn't really have any available options for batting 2nd. Morgan certainly, but Roenicke was committed to giving Gomez a chance at the starting CF job. So inserting Betancourt, Kotsay, or Nieves/Kottaras there would be just as senseless as Gomez. I think once Hart returns he'll hit second and Gomez will be dropped down to 7 or 8.

Corey Hart's rehabbing and injury, which takes priority over public relations appearances. No one likes disappointing kids, But my guess is this was a schedule miscommunication from the Brewers PR Dept. or whoever handles these things and not necessarily Corey himself. -
The Question I have is Nieves's Defense really all that great? He may be slightly better than Kottaras, But if Mevin/Roenicke decide to let Kottaras go, they might as well let Nieves go also and call up Rivera, who I think is just as good as Nieves and may contribute an occasional timely hit once in a while. Or perhaps Maldonado, who's at least young and may have some upside.

Yea, this is hard to figure, instead of using your long reliever for a couple innings Roenicke is burning through his Bullpen in a tie game.

Is it wrong that I was going to say that I hope Gomez gets hit by a pitch, so Braun can get an at-bat, but a Gomez at-bat doesn't last long enough to type.
