  1. Still my favorite Sophia Minnaert moment... https://deadspin.com/watch-this-sideline-reporter-almost-get-smoked-by-a-bas-509935135
  2. so, do we want to DFA Braun or do we want to start Braun in left when Cain and Yelich aren't available?
  3. I fear the Brewer strike out approach is starting to affect Cain
  4. Braun trying to be a little cute there. caught them napping once was good, trying again for 3rd with 2 outs was not smart.
  5. great post. I would go further to say Stearns and Arnold are smart enough to have studied every teams roster extensively. The fact that they didn't see Cobb as enough of an upgrade to shell out a long term contract tells me they think they might be able to do better. I doubt they really think the options they currently have for the back of the rotation is anything more than a very temporary stop-gap. I still believe Broxton, Thames, or possibly Santana will be dealt to acquire young controllable pitching, starter or reliever. Possibly at cut down time. Stearns knows who's on the bubble for other teams and who can be acquired at end of spring. May not be a TOR type, but still a valuable asset or 2.
  6. Wes Obermueller has the upside of being a #2 or #3 pitcher! All he need is a .... blast. Those 12 year old threads resurrected have me all confused now... I actually miss Vampire. He pitched well in some awesome Brewer wins on certain Monday night games I attended at Miller Park. Wednesday day games... Not so much.
  7. Where does the narrative that he doesn't want to pitch in Milwaukee come from? I don't get that feeling at all. Yea people keep posting that, when has Alex ever said that? I'm Guilty. Just speculation on my part, and I'm quite positive if Stearns were to offer him his price, or a contract like Arrieta just signed, he would absolutely LOVE to pitch for Milwaukee. However, Cobb is from Boston, Massachusetts, I believe lives in Vero Beach, Florida. So it seems reasonable if he's going to accept a contract for less than he was hoping for, Milwaukee might not be his preferred choice. Wouldn't be anything personal, Just somewhere like Baltimore might make more sense from a family perspective. Just my pure speculation.
  8. I think this is the wrong train of thought. We’ve been thinking all offseason some big move is coming but I think it’s time to just come to the conclusion that Stearns has literally been saying we’re done for a month now. I know that it’s conceived as GM talk but at this point it just sounds like honesty. I too, expect the Brewers biggest moves are behind them and will go to opening day as is. Time to move on and prepare for Opening day, rotation looks average so hopefully offense is improved adding a couple seasoned hitters. Fair enough. Certainly reasonable assumption. My thinking is just pure speculation. However I will wait till the end of spring training till I'm convinced the brewers are content with what they have currently.
  9. I would love to add Cobb, but if they don't I am guessing it's because Stearns may have something better lined up. it's interesting they haven't traded their outfield/1st base logjam yet. Perhaps something is lined up that is better than Cobb/Arrieta. Someone younger, cheaper, and more controllable. Possible they are just waiting till the end of spring training to be sure no injuries before finalizing.
  10. I initially assumed HH was a Cubs or Cards fan on here trolling. His style and defensiveness to criticism fit the bill for others I've seen on other forums over the years. As I don't post much, just check in here often to see what other brewers fans are discussing, I was curious at how many supported HH's credibility, So I too began to believe, to the point I fell for the 9:00 PM thing. It was then he lost me for good. Anyway the discussion was valuable and a good way to pass a long off-season that still hasn't concluded. So for that, Kudos
  11. I would also add, Stearns and Arnold do their homework. They have studied every teams organization. Other teams have roster crunches as well. I'm willing to bet the reason Stearns can hold firm on his offers is because he knows other pitchers may be available at cut down time via trade or waiver claim. They have had conversations with other GM's, it's reasonable to assume perhaps both the brewers and other trade partners are waiting for spring training to play out. To be sure they don't suffer injuries in their staff before trading from their pitching depth or prospect depth. I'm not convinced the available free agent pitchers consider the Brewers as their choice, or even their 2nd or 3rd choice of teams they are willing to sign with. Especially a low ball offer. That's just my speculation, but Stearns may have gotten that impression as well. who knows.
  12. Yeesh! Another instance of a Cub fan feeling that it is the player's honor to play for their team. Knock me over with a feather! For a team with one title in a century, there sure is a sense of entitlement. If Cobb really wanted to be there, he would have accepted the 3-year deal they offered him back in December. FTR.. I am Definitely not a Cubs fan
  13. I have no Idea if the Cubs are interested still in Cobb. I just know that the Cub fans working for me here really think the Cubs are interested in Cobb if he's willing to settle for a 2-3 yr deal. you can never have enough pitching, I guess.
  14. A take it or leave it deadline only works if a player is really interested in signing with you. I'm guessing the issue is they are not, otherwise a deal would probably have been worked out by now. Living here in Cub country, talk is Cobb really wants to pitch for Chicago, as he is familiar with their manager and pitching coach. If Cobb settles for a below market deal, it will probably be with the Cubs. Arrieta, who knows, but it doesn't seem like he's jumping up and down and waving at the Crew, saying pick me.
  15. If I were thinking of shelling out guaranteed 6 figure Dollar amounts to anyone, I would want to speak to not only said persons agent, but probably said person directly as well. a bizarre thing for me to state, as the most I could probably afford to offer is a few hundred bucks. I mean, Does Arrieta even want to pitch for the Brewers, Something I would want to know before making such a commitment
  16. Cobb seems like the compromise between Arrieta and Lynn. They need 1 more starter, so it's reasonable they will sign one of the three. Cobb seems like the most likely. I have no idea who HH is. At first I assumed he was probably a knowledgeable Cubs or Cardinals fan here to mess with people. I personally don't concern myself this much with rumors. I enjoy the speculation, but in the end I root for the uniform, and whoever wears it at game time. I trust Stearns will figure that out.
  17. Who's HH ?
  18. This is kind of my thinking. I don't know much about Kemp other than my Dodger fan business associates in L.A. are desperate to get rid of him at all cost. Braun, when healthy ( at least by Braun Standards) in 2016 proved he was still Braun. Last year he battled injuries, but still put up a decent offensive season. I look at Braun at this point like a delicious Banana split, when healthy, you play him somewhere and enjoy the deliciousness If not, he's still a valuable Bat coming off the bench in key situations. So unless the Dodgers are sending a MLB ready top pitching prospect with Kemp, what would be the point. I would have no problem with Braun as a part time player if he's battling injuries. We have plenty of good options. I would love to see a healthy Braun in this lineup.
  19. Fair point. though it would never happen, I could see an argument that good defensive catchers are just as valuable as your starting pitchers, certainly your bottom rotation starters. 2nd DH for them?? Weak hitting middle infielders are replaceable, so I can't see it.
  20. I grew up watching the Brewers in the '70's and '80's (yes, I am really old) and remember when my dad was staunchly against the DH rule in the early '70's, though I was very young. My dad was a huge Braves fan in the '50's and hated the radical change the DH represented at the time. He eventually came around and made peace with the rule throughout our time as Brewer fans in the '70's and '80's. Myself, I grew up watch AL Brewers and the DH and have no issue with the NL adopting the rule. I do like the Strategy, but with economic factors and other reasons others have posted, it seems inevitable.
  21. Expect if things fall off after two years there is one buffer year to find out that happened. If that happens that means most guys fell off the cliff and you are happy if two of those guys hold the massive value you are inferring to(Gomez/Lucroy are an example). Good luck having another quick rebuild like this though. That shouldn’t be considered a norm. Bottom line they need to draft better. That is the biggest long term concern. We can always replenish a farm trading off the MLB team. Let’s see if we can have a strong farm without killing every useful MLB level asset. Because we got lucky this time having such a short rebuild. By not working out, I am inferring not winning a championship in two years (Sacrilege, I know, can't believe I'm typing that). Certainly if that's the case, few of those players will have underachieved or suffered injuries. To be honest, that 2015 team had Gomez, Lucroy, and an Injured and untradeable Braun, but still got value from guys like Lind, Segura, and Davis. I like the talent on the current team better.
  22. the more I think about it, I am coming around to spending big dollars/trading way too much on quality pitching. If the FO has decided to go for it in the next two years, I as a fan, will enjoy the ride. The thing the Brewers have going for them, if it doesn't work in two years, is a lot of young controllable assets. They can always flip players like Shaw, Yelich, Anderson, Santana, Nelson, ECT. for a prospect haul in a couple of years and quickly rebuild the system.
  23. As I said in the now closed Yelich trade thread, If the Brewers acquire Archer, I will shut up and be happy. But I feel very uncomfortable emptying the farm. As much as it is fun to hang with the big boys (so to speak) this off-season, sadly it's not something the Brewers can expect to do long term. Brewers need to develop young players. Archer, Like Yelich, qualifies to an extent. But I am in no hurry to return to what we were, an underachieving, playoff hopeful without the means to acquire talent to put itself over the top, and with a barren farm providing no impact players
  24. I would guess any deal with Milwaukee would have an out clause after 2 or 3 years. Darvish would be willing to pitch here for big money, but would want to keep his options open
