  1. As much as it pains me to point out, The cubs record is 4-3.
  2. Looks like plenty of seats available, maybe like 30,000 atten. I'm guessing. So far Cubs fans and Brewer fans haven't had much to cheer for, so hard to tell. Prince goes deep as I type this :-)

  4. This Thread sounds way to similar to Chicago Bears fans jumping all over Jay Cutler. So at the risk of sounding like Lovie Smith, if you want to blame somebody, Blame the Medical staff and Melvin/Roenicke. The Medical staff have taken a very cautious approach with both Hart and Greinke as far as their rehab, and I believe that is the correct way to go about it. I sure if it were up to the players, Hart would be swinging a bat weeks ago and Greinke would be pitching by now. But by waiting for them to heal 100% before allowing them to proceed with baseball activity, it lessens the possibility of Hart messing up his swing or Greinke's mechanics as they try to compensate for their injury. Some organization rush players back from injury, I think the Brewers have done this in the past and learned it's better to take this cautious approach.
  5. I realize Almonte's starting because of the lefty, and I really don't have much of a problem with it until Hart is back. I was just noting the interesting roster decision where the Brewers apparently have 6 outfielders and only 1 back-up infielder. Plus, it seems a little embarrassing that the Brewers are trotting out a DH and a 33 yr.old AAAA guy to play RF until Hart returns. At least Morgan and Reed can play defense.
  6. So the two guys listed as back-up infielders by the official Brewer website get the starts in RF. Welcome to Milwaukee Nyjer Morgan and Jeremy Reed.
  7. For some reason I get the feeling if Betancourt hits 10-15 HR and 70ish RBI again, Melvin may pick up his option for 2012 and nothing will change, regardless of how bad he is otherwise defensively and at the plate.
  8. Sounds like fun, I'll play http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif AL East: Boston AL Central: Chicago AL West: Oakland NL East: Philadelphia NL Central: Cincinnati NL West: Colorado AL Wildcard: Tampa Bay NL Wildcard: Milwaukee Boston is clearly the team to beat in the AL East with Tampa losing to many key contributors and the Yankees just to old. It's hard to pick against Minnesota in the Al Central, but I just think Chicago will get it done this year. Should probably gone with Texas in the AL West, but I really like Oakland's pitching staff. Philadelphia, like Boston is clear favorite in the NL East. As much as I want to pick the Brewers in the NL Central, I think Cincinnati has better depth to overcome adversity. The NL West was hardest to pick, I think Colorado has best talent and depth.
  9. I think I'd like to see Almonte continue to have success at the plate later in camp, when he's facing MLB pitchers who are close to regular-season form, and not "Bubble" MLB pitchers trying to earn a spot or Minor league pitchers closing out late innings. Nothing against Almonte, he has been impressive so far, but there has to be a reason a 33 yr. old player has remained in the minor leagues through out his career. Does Stetter still have options? Have to believe if he doesn't make the team his time with the Brewers must be rather short.
  10. Perhaps not gasoline quite yet, But with Luis Cruz having a solid day in the field and going 2-4 with a homer and 2 RBI, maybe he threw a little lighter fluid on this thread? Yes I know it's early and meaningless, But..
  11. Just thought this deserved discussion. Greinke talked to reporters today, and some stuff was interesting. He finds autograph-seeking fans Annoying, Reporters annoying because they ask dumb questions, But the good news is he hasn't found any of his new team mates very annoying so far. I guess as long as he's pitching effectively, I don't really care if he is somewhat a loner. As someone with experience with SAD, I can somewhat understand where he is coming from, but still makes me a little nervous. Got to like the fact that he'd be willing to give up his entire 27MM salary if he could just play Baseball and not have to put up with all the Fame and other nonsense. http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/sports/116683129.html McCalvy was present also: http://brewersbeat.mlblog...atting_with_greinke.html
  12. Not Disappointing, But I worry that Prince will put up similar numbers to last year. Which would obviously be solid numbers, but I think if he's not getting pitches to hit this year, Prince will press and swing at more bad pitches rather than taking his walks. Don't get me wrong, I hope he has the Big contract year season the Brewers are counting on, but I think it is just as likely he wont and his frustration could become a minor distraction. As for Breakout, I'm looking for Jonathan Lucroy to improve a little both at the Plate and defensively. Now that he's had a little taste of MLB experience, hopefully he can get on base and provide a little stability at the bottom of the order.
  13. Awesome looking big screen! Can't wait for the Brewers to start putting scuff marks on it. I vote Rickie as the one to bounce the first dinger off it. Perhaps this is the best reason to bring back Russell Branyan http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  14. What I find a little shocking is Ash's willingness to air this out in the media. I don't know if he's trying to act as Melvin's pitbull and be the bad guy in negotiations, but I think after all these years everyone realises Gord's word is effectively Melvins. Seems to me he'd be better off keeping management's thoughts about Rickie Weeks's value private, nothing positive can be gained by ripping him to the media. This, combined with Ash's earlier statement about Grienke being named opening day starter, instead of letting Roenicke (sp?) Name him, makes for what I feel is a rather bizarre day for Ash.
  15. I predict Zack Greinke will be lined up in spring training to start opening day in Cincinnati.
  16. With Texas now signing Beltre and leaving the Angels looking for a 3B, is it time to re-look at this? Think the Brewers should offer McGehee and live with Gamel at 3B in exchange for AyBar/Izturis? I doubt Aybar would be moved, but would Izturis and a low prospect for McGehee seem reasonable?
  17. There's no need to do that. It would be 100% redundant after the "meet the media" stand-up session they just had in the clubhouse. Pure speculation on my part, but I think the reason for the unusual way the press greeting was handled was to make Greinke more comfortable. I don't want to harp on his troubles, but as someone familiar with social anxiety disorder, I know sitting on stage in front of an audience with lights and cameras can be a little intimidating and uncomfortable.
  18. How about bringing back Russell Branyan if he'd accept a 1 yr or MLD? He could provide power off the bench and cover both corner INF and outfield positions. Not a real need I concede, but would allow Gamel to get regular playing time at AAA until a Prince trade or Injuries.
  19. PNC seems like a good place for Overbay, short rightfield power ally and spacious centerfield and leftfield gaps.
  20. Ken Rosenthal thinks the angels might consider moving Jared Weaver http://mlbbuzz.yardbarker.com/blog/mlbbuzz/the_angels_sign_lee_trade_weaver/3751751
  21. Just a thought.. worst case, If Marcum has as good of a season as he had in '10 with the Jays in '11 for the Brewers, they could always flip him next year for a prospect/Prospects with comparable value as Lawrie if they can't sign him to an extension. Assuming some of our pitching prospects develop and are ready to contribute in '12. Alot of assumptions, I'll concede
