  1. That's generous in my book. So far I've seen our Ace and our 3B/#5 hitter disappear and everyone else play to about expectations save Wolf. Me personally, I've seen a .500 team to date.
  2. Seriously? We're hovering around .500 while our best SP has been out all year, our second best SP has an ERA over 6, our all-star RFer is just now getting up to speed and we've (hopefully) got a very good #2 hitter back in the lineup regularly. If your on the ledge with this team on May 4th you may as well jump because you won't be making it til SeptemberLike I said...vent alert. Sorry, but I believe this team is underachieving. I'm not expecting them to be 20-8 or anything. However, I expected them to be more consistent than what I've seen so far.
  3. VENT ALERT: Can't watch this game but am listening at work. I'm getting real sick of this team guys. Are the Brewers ever capable of playing some kind of consistent baseball instead of winning 6 of 7 and then losing 4 if 5? It's very frustrating to see the Brewers underachieve. Again. Someone talk me off the ledge.
  4. I think I will go with this one because, well...it was but it wasn't.
  5. I don't believe that there is a double standard for love of Braun vs. love of Prince from fans on this site, although, there very well should be one in my opinion. Here's my reality of the situation: I feel very strongly towards Braun and I am rather ambivalent towards Prince these days. I love Prince because he is/was a Brewer from 2002-2011. I love Braun because he's more than a Brewer now. He's a phenomenal baseball player committed to being a member of the community of Milwaukee and more broadly, the state of Wisconsin. He'll become Brett Favre before the retirement fiasco. However, perhaps the biggest thing in my mind that separates Braun from Fielder is Braun accepted the exact same "reported" deal that Fielder declined. Whether or not that is fair, it tells me that it is about more than money with Braun and with Fielder it is all about money. I personally relate better to people who don't base decisions solely on dollars; especially when you are talking about the astronomical numbers of $100-200MM.
  6. 1 @ Hou: 1-0 4 @ Atl: 1-3 3 @ Stl: 2-1 3 vs Sd: 2-1 3 vs Pit: 2-1 2 @ Lad: 1-1 2 @ Sd: 1-1 3 vs Col: 1-2 3 vs Wsh: 3-0 3 vs Sf: 2-1 2 @ Cin: 1-1 17-12 Couple of comments: *ATL series is tough because I believe they are going to break out soon. I hope it's after we leave there. I still think they will win the East. *I feel good about playing the Classies. I think they will gradually fade away. Smoke and mirrors pitching staff. *LA & SD are splits only because we don't play so hot on the west coast. Never have. *COL is a scary good team. They just win and I can see them coming in to Miller Park and doing the same. *After the COL series, we'll be out for blood and we owe the Nationals. Sweep it is. *Our pitching, assuming Greinke is Greinke and Yo returns, can match SF and our hitting is vastly superior. We win the series. I'm expecting us to split the first 2 in Houston to end April at 13-13. A 17-12 May would put us at 30-25. Not great but I'll take it considering our early injuries and tough April schedule.
  7. I think the most important things to look at with the month of April is we're a 1/2 game out of first right now while playing all of April without Hart & Greinke & half of April without Lucroy & Nyjer. We're also a 1/2 game out of first with Gallardo pitching like Ruben Quevedo.
  8. This is precisely his problem. I remember Sheets would go fastball in the strike zone, big hook into the strike zone and after it was 0-2, he would work outside the strike zone to get the hitter out. Yo seems to be exactly the opposite and this is why he is getting hammered. Nibbling leads to 2-0 or 3-1 counts all the time. Throw strikes. Don't get cute. You're a power pitcher. 3-1 fastball down the middle to Votto will get you beat everytime. Votto is a stud though and that will happen. What's unforgiveable is the 2-0 counts to Paul Janishes, Ryan Hanigans and Chris Heiseys of the world. Maybe Sheets should be our assistant pitching coach. He can teach Yo to pound the strike zone and chew his nails between innings.
  9. Lucroy is going to be a beast by the way. I'm thinking late 90s, early 00s Jason Kendall. Lest we forget Kendall was actually a beast too at one point.
  10. That is my issue with Gallardo even when he is right. There is a reason why he can only go 6 innings every start. He has to go to deep counts on every batter it seems.
  11. Not to interrupt the Gallardo talk but we are making LeCure look like a Cy Young winner...typical.
  12. I hope that Yo realizes to that he needs to stop messing around and always going to a 2-0 count so he has to groove fastballs to every batter. This should be a pretty large wakeup call. Terribly disappointing start for a guy who I thought was going to make the leap to a Cy Young contender this season.
  13. I think Greinke will want to stay in a Milwaukee type market, meaning no Yankees or Red Sox. I feel the Nationals would be our chief competition in the event of him reaching FA. My guess for Greinke is almost the equivalent Braun contract. 5 years/$100MM to stay. Meaning we'd have Greinke for the next 7 years at $127MM. Do you pay that and have an average of $40MM going to 2 players (Braun & Greinke) in future years is the question?
  14. Absolutely agree. An offensive core of Braun, Rickie, Hart, McGehee, Lucroy & maybe Gamel matched with a starting rotation core of Gallardo, Greinke & Marcum would be fantastic. Filling the back end of the rotation with Narveson, Peralta, Rogers, Rivas of the world, while filling the bullpen with Kintzler, Axford, Braddock should provide some low cost alternatives allowing for some larger contracts to Greinke and Marcum. If the Brewers could somehow get Greinke and Marcum in the fold long term the 10s could be a fantastic decade of Brewer baseball.
  15. This makes some sense. A player can be one of many great Yankees, who will always be overshadowed by others, or they can be a folk hero in Wisconsin for the next 100 years. When CC left, he made a statement insinuating that he was more comfortable where he wouldn't be the one superstar with the spotlight shining on him, and would rather have teammates getting the attention. I think Braun is happy to be "the man" in Milwaukee.I remember this as well. After this statement was made I was more okay with CC not signing with the Brewers. I am more comfortable when my team's stud players have "the man" mentality.
  16. Yeah I pretty much disagree with everything you just said other than the most team friendly deal. Put Braun on the free agent market right now. What would you pay him? Would you give him a 10 year $145MM deal because that in essence is what he is due for the next 10 years. I for one can't imagine anyone not hopping on board this deal, especially if you were on board with giving CC or Prince $20MM/season. Is there risk with the deal? Of course. But would you rather go year to year with a hall of fame talent who has shown to be a consistent .300, 25 HR, 100 RBI guy? Good luck keeping him when free agency comes. Braun would have been a FA at the age of 32 in 2015. If he kept putting up these types of years the Brewers would have had 0% shot of keeping him in free agency. Look at the Tulowitzki deal and you will see why we had to do this now. As for long term risk contracts, I can't think of one player in baseball I'd rather risk giving a long term deal like this to than Ryan Braun.
  17. Really? Prove this to me. I'm open to changing my mind but nothing, ABSOLUTELY NOTHING I have seen the first two weeks makes me believe that Nieves deserves a spot on any roster in MLB. He is an average catcher and he is a horrible hitter. Kottaras may be just average at hitting, but he isn't horrible catching. That's enough of a difference to keep Kottaras.
  18. Agreed. Another nice aside is this basically kills any speculation that Mark Attanasio will be looking to sell the team in the near future.Interesting...I thought the exact opposite when I heard the news. Like this was a first step to ensuring the Brewers have their franchise player locked in before he sells the team. That may be more fear of losing Attanasio than actual logic.
  19. This shows the type of commitment one player can have to a team in spite of the Yankees and Red Sox of the world. I think this speaks volumes about the team, fans and people of Wisconsin when an elite player such as Braun commits to his entire career in Milwaukee. I love that he basically said no to any shot at free agency, where he undoubtedly would have made more money. One of the reasons Braun is beloved in Milwaukee and Prince will be just a guy when all is said and done. I love Prince but its apparent that its more about money than love for the team, town and community. A great day as a Brewers fan.
  20. Article Interesting article. The Brewers currently have 4 players (Prince Fielder, Rickie Weeks, Nyjer Morgan, Latroy Hawkins) or 16.7% of the roster that are black. That is almost double the average of 8.5% of players in MLB that are black.
  21. I like Boggs and wanted him to be on the team in ST, but that was before Nyjer was acquired. Because Kotsay isn't going anywhere, Boggs would be the 6th OF and I still need someone to explain to me why having a 6th OF as that last man on the roster makes sense. Realistically, Boggs doesn't come up unless Kotsay is released or retires. I know I'll get killed for this but I would rather have 3 catchers and keep Nieves than Almonte on the roster if it means Kottaras is kept and is available to pinch hit more often. As for what I would like to see happen; well I will get killed for this as well, but I would like to see the Brewers claim Brandon Wood and just maybe catch lightning in a bottle with the former top prospect. DFA Nieves and Almonte and roll with a bench of: OF: Kotsay, Gomez/Morgan IF: Counsell, Wood C: Kottaras To me, it just makes no sense to have either Boggs or Almonte on the roster once Hart returns. We need another utility IF and I would rather have a Wood, who just maybe could put it together, than a 6th OF in Boggs or Almonte. Either way a Wood or Boggs/Almonte will see minimal playing time. Just my thoughts...
  22. I understand he's shown nothing in the majors, but with our absolute terrible depth at shortstop, does it really hurt to take a look by claiming him on waivers? I'm not 100% sure how claiming someone off of waivers works in MLB, but we only would be responsible for his salary ($420,000) at that time correct? Interesting article from MLB Trade Rumors, more speculative than anything.
  23. I didn't have a lot of fun the first time she held a position like that.
