  1. Again, agreed with HTR. There is no realistic scenario right now where I can see Reyes in Milwaukee. He will cost too much in the way of prospects in a trade and will cost WAY too much to re-sign. He's an amazing talent but we have more important people to "attempt" to re-sign in Fielder, Greinke and Marcum. Focus on the Hardy's of the world because that is more likely where the SS upgrade will come from.
  2. I'm with HTR. I just don't hold high hopes for YuBet coming close to even a mediocre JJ season, which in and of itself should warrant a strong look at JJ. Nothing in YuBet past would indicate he will come close to JJ on offense. JJ's worst season, yes. While defense alone should warrant a change, consider that in comparison to JJ's 2009 offensive stats, in 5 full seasons and 2 partial seasons in MLB, YuBet has posted a higher OBP than JJ's terrible 2009 .302, twice (.310 in 2006, .308 in 2007). Coupled with the D, I don't see a compelling reason not to try and pry JJ assuming he's available. YuBet's past speaks for itself.
  3. Correction. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  4. As a side, I find it interesting that DM can stand behind YuBet when you compare his offensive numbers in 2011 vs. JJ's "terrible" 2009 (his last season in Milwaukee), especially when you take into account defensive abilities as well. I know we had Alcides waiting in the wings to take over, however, it's just worth noting that: JJ 2009 (414 ABs) AVG: .229 OBP: .302 SLG: .357 OPS: .659 YuBet 2011 (198 ABs) AVG: .232 OBP: .259 SLG: .343 OPS: .603
  5. This is something that shouldn't be overlooked and from a business standpoint makes total sense for the Brewers. JJ coming back would undoubtedly be a huge boost to the team strictly from a PR standpoint. Casual fans loved him. Women especially love the guy. Huge boost. The plus side of acquiring JJ is that while it is a huge business benefit, it also makes the team significantly better in both the short and, hopefully, long term. JJ is no gold glove winner but was the consistent defensive SS we are sorely lacking now. YuBet can even stay for 2011 and be the power hitting PH from the rightside that we are currently lacking. This makes way too much sense to me which is why he won't likely happen. I can't imagine being Doug Melvin and looking at the current Brewers and what the (likely) cost to get JJ and not swallowing my pride to bring him back to Milwaukee. Even at the cost of a Farris, who really is blocked by Rickie, we may acquire a long term solution at SS for a prospect who may be expendable. I know the phrase "all in" isn't exactly 100% accurate for the 2011 Brewers but there is no situation where Melvin can argue this team wouldn't be better in 2011 and in the future without JJ (barring Baltimore asking for the moon for JJ. Unlikely). I know I for one won't mind a lineup of: Weeks, Hardy, Braun, Hart, McGehee, Gamel, Lucroy, Morgan in 2012. I'd LOVE this and I can't emphasize that enough.
  6. Jungmann 7th overall rank on MLB.com and Jonathan Mayo...FWIW
  7. I have a feeling George Springer will be in Milwaukee...not sure why but I am expecting it now that those other bats are off the market. Makes no sense really but I definitely could see it. EDIT: Nevermind....Houston
  8. I have also settled on Baez and Gray. Gray seems like the kind of player we will love in Milwaukee. Undersized bulldog type is everything I have read about him. I could care less if he isn't 6'4". Looking at a Greinke or Lincecum tells me heart will sometimes overcome the lack of "ideal size", whatever that is. I would love to see Lindor because as a switch hitting shortstop with outstanding defense, above average bat and 10-15 HR potential, I can't help but thinking of Jose Reyes. However, I think he is likely gone. Everything I've seen about Baez says he can play 3B, while maybe not at a gold glove level, he can be average and is the more advanced hitter. Picking between Lindor and Baez really seems to boil down to preference. What an interesting scenario if Lindor is available at 12 and Baez at 15...question is do we take both? Better pray the MLB rotation is set up for the next few years then and that at least 2 of Rivas, Peralta, Thornburg and Rogers prove to be legit.
  9. I know I may be one of the few but I dislike the blue alternate uniforms...both home and away. Nothing against them as I believe they are aesthetically pleasing, but my traditional baseball sense tells me home uniforms are white and road uniforms are grey.
  10. And just as a reminder, Nieves was 2-4 on Opening Day. That makes him 5-39 since...yuck.
  11. To quote the original post: BILL HALL WINS BALLGAMES! I'd welcome him back with open arms. Him and Wilson may not have too much of a difference in terms of AVG, but Hall is a legit threat to put one in the seats. Yes please...
  12. I think this season will prove to management that we will consistently be in contention if we can pair excellent pitching with above average, not excellent offense, i.e. 2012 Brewers without Prince. I think Attanasio, Melvin & Ash will go out of there way to ensure Gallardo, Greinke & Marcum are here for the next 5 seasons at least. My guess today is that we sign Marcum for right around the 4 year $48MM ($12MM/AAV) contract everyone has been discussing and Greinke gets a Lackey type deal for $5 year $85 MM ($17MM/AAV). I know it isn't as simple as subtracting Prince's and Wolf's salaries in 2013 and adding extended Greinke and Marcum, but the numbers are relatively close with Wolf getting $9.5MM & Prince getting $15.5MM or $25MM this season and my proposed extensions equaling $29MM.
  13. I was making a general statement about Prince v. Howard, not to say that you were advocating for Howard. I was simply saying Fielder's AVG, OBP, SLG & OPS numbers v. Howard in 2011 are ridiculous.
  14. If Howard makes the ASG over Fielder it will only be because of him playing Philly and Prince playing in Milwaukee. Prince's OPS is over 100 points higher than Howard's and Howards K to BB is 65/25 or 2.6/1 whereas Prince's is 27/27 or 1/1...Prince is dominating Howard right now.
  15. Hmm...I think this one depends on the perspective. I for one agree the CC trade was a great deal and a necessary deal to get us to the 2008 playoffs and I would have made it every time too. However, I can also see the flip side of the argument saying one playoff season wasn't worth the players we gave up. How good would Brantley look in CF surrounded by Braun and Hart? Same for LaPorta. Having Gamel @ 3B and LaPorta @ 1B next season would look pretty darn good combined with Weeks and Lucroy. In that scenario, JJ or Alcides would likely still be at SS. Talk about an everyday lineup. Wow. For that reason, I can't say this would hands down be the best trade ever for Melvin. The premise, as I see it, is the greatest gap between what the Brewers received what they traded. If that is the premise, I think Nyjer for Cutter is pretty hard to beat on June 1, 2011.
  16. It's gotta be an SS and a bench bat. He hasn't killed us yet, but YuBet is a black hole. We need to find the Nyjer Morgan of SS. JJ comes to save us. Imagine how good the lineup becomes when 6-7-8 becomes Lucroy-Hardy-Morgan. As a plus to a JJ deal, Betancourt becomes a RH power bat off the bench for the remainder of the season, killing three birds with one stone: 1. Finding a legit SS. 2. Getting YuBet out of the everyday lineup 3. Getting Josh Wilson to Triple AAA where he should be. A power bat off the bench would be the other target. I like the idea of Thome as well, but I find it hard to believe Minnesota will deal him based on how poorly their season is going. His quest for 600 HRs (593 now) will likely be a big seller throughout the summer. I think a target could be Hideki Matsui from Oakland or Kosuke Fukudome from Chicago becuase God knows they will be out of it come June 1....oh wait. The only problem with Matsui or Fukudome is they are both OF and there really is no spot for an additional OF. Ideally, we would find a corner IF type power hitter.
  17. Votto has already replaced Pujols as the hitter I least like to face. Votto is scary good. He very well could be the perrenial MVP for the next 5 seasons. Amazing player.
  18. As much as I would love a sweep in New York, I'd gladly trade it for a sweep against the Classies.
  19. Anyone else fearful of the "curse" ? You know, the curse where the unknown minor leaguer completely dominates the Brewers? God I hope this isn't the case tonight.
  20. 1 @ Reds: 1-0 4 @ Marlins: 2-2 3 v Mets: 2-1 3 v Cardinals: 2-1 4 @ Cubs: 2-2 3 @ Red Sox: 1-2 3 v Twins: 2-1 3 v Rays: 2-1 3 @ Yankees: 1-2 15-12 Optimistically, this is the best I think they can do in June. Difficult month for sure, but this is my prediction if they play as they should i.e to OUR expectations. Of course they could get hot and be 18-9 or they could get cold and be 11-16. I just feel this team will play well during this month and even though I have them as 7-8 on the road this month, it is more a product of who they are playing than any indication of more road difficulties. Going off my prediction of 1-1 in Cincinnati for their current series, they will be 30-25 after May and after a 15-12 month of June, will be 45-37 come July 1.
  21. Just as a side note to this road trip...this team is too old to be having this type of problem on the road. If this were 2007 or even 2008 I'd be able to understand the road woes a little more, but the core of this team are all veterans now. They aren't 2nd or 3rd year guys. The fact that we are so bad on the road is pretty inexcusable if you ask me.
  22. 4-3 should be the realistic goal. Winning the series in Cincinnati would be a huge moral boost. Florida may be the most talented team in the NL so a split would be great. Cincinnati, arguably, may be the 2nd most. I would be ecstatic with a 4-3 trip and would be ok with a 3-4 trip.
  23. If the choice were Reyes and Gamel or Fielder, I think you take Reyes and Gamel. However, I think that if you were to sign Reyes, you also guarantee losing one or, more likely IMO, both of Marcum/Greinke. So the choice really becomes: A. Reyes & Gamel B. Greinke and/or Marcum AND Gamel C. Fielder I'll go Option B and sign a Hardy type for SS.
  24. Yes...a stud. If he were a Brewers prospect, we all would be clamoring for him to be playing OVER even Russell Branyan. Especially in that Angel lineup. Give him the opportunity to grow and mature while not having to hit in the 2-5 spots when Abreu, Kendrick, Hunter and Wells are healthy. Maybe he's more Russell Branyan than Prince Fielder, but given the choice, I'd take a young copy of Russell Branyan over the old, real Russell Branyan.
