  1. 10 years $140 million for Will Smith. William Contreras is 26 now. A 10 year deal would take him to his mid-30s. An AAV of $14m a year seems pretty reasonable for a catcher who should just be hitting his prime, plus that bat plays at DH. Comparatively, Smith has a career of .264/.359/.844 in 1994 PA, whereas Contreras has a.276/.353/.818 in 1196 PA. I know Quero is coming but Contreras is here and has already produced at an all star level. I’d be quite happy with extending Contreras at this level. I’m curious about what others think of this as a concept.
  2. I will irrationally angry if the Brewers deal Frelick. He is the exact type of hitter that they have not had in Milwaukee since…prime Cirillo? I see Frelick as a guy who has .320/.380 with 40-50 2B, 10 3B, 30 SB potential from the lead off spot (yes I know Yelich has 2 batting titles, but different type of hitter) if he reaches his ceiling. Build the entire team out of Frelick and Tyler Black type hitters (high AVG/high OBP). Deal Mitchell or Wiemer before Frelick.
  3. DFA this guy. He’s been bad all year. Smoke and garbage doesn’t last forever
  4. This is where I am as well. Plug TA into 2B and let Turang get some more run at SS for when Adames is either dealt or walks in free agency. Yelich, Frelick, Wiemer and Chourio aren’t going anywhere…which unfortunately might mean Mitchell is available. I’d rather deal a Zamora type but if I’m the White Sox I’m holding out for one of Black, Quero or Mitchell. Hopefully Arnold has some of that William Contreras trade magic in him to limit the return to the White Sox.
  5. Counsell has amazing body language. He has no answers either. Great job Skip!
  6. Legitimately everything about this team sucks. Can’t move runners over with 2 on and no one out. Can’t hit with RISP. Give up runs immediately afterwards. This team is such a garbage watch and they wonder why attendance is down. It’s because it’s a garbage baseball team
  7. I seriously despise this year’s version of the Brewers
  8. Suter can be DFAd anytime since clubhouse morale is so low.
  9. Go Pack Go Yelling at yourself every time you walk off the mound does nothing if you give up runs 100% of the time. Clown
  10. Maybe Renfroe should plant his feet when he throws. Maybe Adames should throw his body in front of it. Maybe act like you care.
  11. Awful throw but the rebuilt bullpen giving it up again.
  12. Honest question. What does Severino bring to the team? He is a below average defensive catcher and he is mediocre at best offensively. He should never see the field.
  13. I was ok with moving Hader. Very unimpressed with the return however. Ruiz has nice stats in AAA this year but was SD’s 28th best prospect. Gasser seems nice but not the headliner for best closer in baseball. That they couldn’t have received an Abrams, Hassell or Campusano is pretty shocking.
  14. Any interest in Bellinger from the Dodgers? He’s a need of a change of scenery kind of guy and is languishing at the bottom of their order. What about Hiura for Bellinger? Saves Dodgers money and gives Brewers a CF. Maybe a 3-way deal where prospects and Hiura go to Royals, Benintendi to Dodgers and Bellinger to Brewers. (Not trying to be but I’m a big change of scenery guy this year to try and improve Brewers and Hiura is candidate 1A for that)
  15. The team is a result of Counsell’s direction and Stearns’ choices of talent. However, this team offensively just is putrid and it’s been a problem for years. Wong’s swing and even Adames swings are out uppercut. Have a lineup of guys who think they’re HR hitters and the results are what you’ve seen so far. I long for Lyle Overbay type hitters or a Jeff McNeil/Brandon Nimmo type to be peppered into this lineup.
  16. They really need to figure out a “hitting lab” similar to their pitching lab. Their organizational philosophy to hitting is pathetic. This team makes me prefer the days of Looper, Suppan and Bush.
  17. This entire crap series is on Counsell, for not recognizing Hader didn’t have it, and Stearns, for thinking Alexander is a better option than Small. This is late years Thompson and McCarthy for Packer fans.
  18. Story of Counsell’s life as manager. Love him as a guy but this team’s constant inability to hit is a reflection of his lack of killer instinct and crap coaching. He’s becoming more Mike McCarthy every year.
  19. I’m ready for the Severino experiment to end. He’s not a good catcher.
