  1. Really BrewCrew? Where did you hear that? Great news that they're going to give him a start. Macha said it earlier today: http://brewersbeat.mlblogs.com/archives/2010/09/macha_eyes_marlins_series_for.html So, how 'bout Kintzler and Rogers tonight? 1.1 IP scoreless for Kintzler, and a 1.0 IP scoreless for Rogers. Both looked really good, and I'm excited about them. Can't wait for Rogers to get his start.
  2. I would LOVE to have Ozzie as our manager. I could actually see it happening, too, to be honest. About Ozzie throwing his players under the bus... Well, let's be honest here. Most of the time, if he calls out a player, the player needs to be called out. They likely did something stupid that cost the team the win, didn't put enough effort in, etc. I also don't really think he's a bad manager. He seems to get the most out of what he's given to work with, and his record shows that. Escobar batting leadoff was probably the Brewers' goal all along, anyway. (Cain would be a better leadoff hitter right now, though). X ellence, can you really blame Braun's lack of hustle and Hart's incompetence on defense on Ed Sedar? If a player sucks on he defense, the coaching staff can't do anything about it. He's gonna suck no matter what you do (Adam Dunn, anyone?). I really can't see Melvin firing Sedar, especially not as the first person gone. Personally, the only way I think that Eddie is gone is if the next manager wants to bring in a staff entirely his own.
  3. So if Mark will be starting, and he'll be activated on Friday, does it mean there's a good chance he'll be starting on Friday? Something tells me that his mother's word that he'll be a starting pitcher is not equal to the Brewers' word. I'd love to see him get some starts, but I highly doubt that he will. Still excited to see him pitch, though.
  4. I was actually just thinking about Sedar today. The guys really do like him, and he seems like a guy they'd want to play for. Along with that, he has managed at the minor league level, and has a 257-224 record managing in the minors. That's a .534 winning percentage. So, I'd say he would be a nice candidate for manager. I'd like to see him be the manager, actually.
  5. Out of the Royals' 1B, I think Kila Ka'aihue would be the most available. I also think he could be acquired for not much, and he could be a very nice 1B until our guy (Hunter Morris) is ready. Not that I wouldn't like Butler, but I think Ka'aihue is going to be much more available and much less expensive.
  6. I would guess that Villa and Jeffress are going to start taking some innings away from Loe and Coffey, who both need a rest. Excited to see the Brewers counter Chapman with their own flamethrower (although not as fast, obviously). Hoping to see that Villa can still get out ML hitters. As for Gamel... I just don't see how he can get any consistent playing time. He will probably just get a start every once in a while to spell McGehee, and that's really it. As for Melvin's quote of "We don't like calling up players unless they're going to play", he never did specifically say that he doesn't like calling up players unless they're going to start. He only said play, which Gamel will do, just not very often. (Yes, I know, very nitpicky of me.)
  7. what do you plan on doing with viciedo then? hes mlb ready and, in my opinion, a much better option at first then hart. i'm a big fan of that kid but i dont think danks/viciedo is enough for prince because danks already has a good amount of service time in. First off, Dank's amount of service time doesn't make him worth less... he'd easily be the second best pitcher on our staff, you could even name him co-ace with Yovani. As for Viciedo, what makes him Major League ready? He wasn't all that impressive in 82 PA this season in the Majors. .268/.268/.451 line, with 19.5% K rate, and a 0.0% BB rate. In a Danks/Viciedo deal, I would put Viciedo in the minors (where he belongs) to work on his patience at the plate before I would bring him up. How is a guy with 82 PA in the Major Leagues a "much better option at first" than Hart? TooLiveBrew, that's why I said "Dunno if this would happen." It's really just wishful thinking on my part. If a deal with the White Sox went down, we'd be more likely to get Gavin Floyd than John Danks (not that I would be upset with getting Floyd).
  8. Here's my thought. Dunno if this would happen, but Kenny Williams is a pretty desperate GM when he needs to be, and he needs a lefty power bat in that lineup. So, here's what I would do: - Trade Fielder to the White Sox for John Danks and Dayan Viciedo - (If his option is declined) Sign Chris Young to a cheap risk-reward type of deal (maybe a $5 mil base salary with incentives). - Hart to 1B, Dickerson in RF. Rotation: 1) Yovani Gallardo 2) John Danks 3) Chris Young 4) Randy Wolf 5) Amaury Rivas Needless to say, a big improvement over the current rotation. We improve defense in RF and at 1B, and we keep a lefty in the lineup with Dickerson. Option to trade Casey at the deadline, depending.
  9. White Sox one is definitely my favorite, with the Marlins in second. Great stuff
  10. So, Todd Coffey just magically evolved from nothing, and C.C. Sabathia was a soft-tosser I assume? Sarcasm aside, we have a fair amount of hard-throwing pitchers (Braddock, Axford, Parra, Gallardo, Coffey) with several hard-throwers on their way up. However, I'd like more than one starter that can throw above 90 MPH. Melvin appears to understand that, judging by his statements made earlier about how he will be evaluating pitching (6-2 or taller, solid pitching mechanics, good fastball, etc.). On topic, anyone else thinking that we're going to perhaps see Wily Peralta this September?
  11. So, anyone else beginning to doubt the accuracy of this report? It has been reported nowhere else, there's really no reason for it to happen... Unless, of course, they are waiting to outright him until after they work out a trade for someone, but I kind of doubt that.
  12. I'd imagine that, if this happens, it will happen after tonight's game. Also, apparently Scott Downs, Jason Frasor, Kevin Gregg, and Shawn Camp have all been claimed off waivers from the Jays. Perhaps the Brewers claimed one of them and are going to outright Bush to make room for whomever they claimed?
  13. I'll wait for an official report before I have an actual reaction. However, if this is true: I guess I'm not surprised. Who replaces him though? Would it be someone not on the 40-man, like Wily Peralta? Or does someone like Peralta go on the 40-man, with someone like Amaury Rivas (who is already on the 40-man) come up to replace him?
  14. If the Brewers moved, I think I would follow the Royals. Those guys have a bright future with lots of young talent coming up, and they've got the right guy at the helm managing that young talent.
  15. You say that as though you think Melvin realizes they both suck. I'm pretty disappointed that Melvin won't bring up any starters. At the least, bring up Rivas and give him a start or two. It can't hurt. As for relievers, we all know we'll be seeing Villa again, and maybe Stetter. Probably Jeffress as well, if I had to guess. For hitters, I'd say Cruz and Maldonado would be called up. Cruz is probably going to be our Counsell of the future, so we should see what he can do (give him a few starts around the infield, see what happens). Maldonado could give Lucroy another day off (besides when Wolf pitches), and be a righty off the bench (not that he can hit very well). Obviously, I don't think we're going to see another OFer up in September.
  16. Alright, I felt the need to bring this up. Since Sweet Lou retired, and Quade took his place, I've been hearing that the Cubs will not be looking at Ryne Sandberg to be their next manager. So, would you guys want Sandberg as the next manager of the Brewers, and do you think he'd be open to managing the Brewers?
  17. For a September starter, didn't we sign Jeff Bennett a little bit ago? Also, what about Chase Wright? Chris Cody would be nice, too. Somebody earlier suggested Sam Narron. I wouldn't mind seeing him, too. I'd also like to see Rivas, obviously. I just decided to list some candidates that no one else had.
  18. Gwynn, Jr, only because he's shown that he can hit over .240 and get on base above a .300 clip.
  19. Let's be honest. Gomez shouldn't even see the field with Cain up. He shouldn't even see the bench -- that's what we've got Dickerson for. He needs to be in AAA.
  20. Quote from Yahoo's Jeff Passan: "In the Diamondbacks’ eyes, Loux is damaged goods. Their medical staff’s customary MRI on Loux’s arm turned up two red flags. The first: Loux has a tear in his labrum, a shoulder injury that has ended careers. The second: Loux’s elbow, which had bone chips taken out in 2009, showed signs of eventually needing Tommy John surgery." So, that's why he failed his physical. I imagine he'll be in no position to ask for 2 mil. I say, offer shy of 1 mil once he's a FA, and if he accepts, get him his surgery and hope he recovers. If not, move on.
  21. I was talking with a good friend of mine, and he made a pretty good point about Dale Sveum. Sveum seems like the guy who is best suited to be the 2nd in command, not the guy in charge of it all. A very interesting candidate, being talked about as a possible manager... how about Joey Cora, the bench coach of the Chicago White Sox?
  22. Out of the managers that have been interviewed by teams this season, I would have wanted Buck Showalter. The O's got him, though. I really do not want Bobby Valentine. I just don't like him. A couple other guys to consider, Don Wakamatsu (probably not, but giving him an interview couldn't hurt), and Trey Hillman. I also kind of like the suggestion of Eric Wedge.
  23. This occurs to me about Gonzalez. If he had a problem with Hanley not hustling to get a ball, he'd probably have a big problem with Braun's lack of hustle in LF. I just wonder what he would do about that... Other than that, though, I really like Gonzalez. Fredi, Sveum, and Listach as three guys that I would love to have as our manager.
  24. Pat Listach is absolutely another guy that I would enjoy having as our next manager. As for Don Money, he's a great guy, great manager, but I seem to recall him saying at one point that he doesn't want to manage at the MLB level because he likes working with the young guys in the minors (I don't have a source on that right now, I just seem to remember him saying it). I would love to have Fredi Gonzalez as our manager, but I can just about guarantee that he will be the next manager of the Atlanta Braves. Sandberg is another guy I would like to have, but I really can't see the Cubs passing up on him. Both Kendall and Counsell are probably going to be very good managers some day, and I think just about everybody here wouldn't at all mind seeing Counsell as our manager. I don't think Craig is ready to retire just yet, and I'm not exactly sure if a player-manager would work these days. I also like Jeff Cirillo and Geoff Jenkins, but I don't think either of them should be managing just yet. I'd like them both on our staff, though.
  25. Alright, well, I think we all know that Ken Macha will not be returning. I noticed we didn't have a thread actually dedicated to this topic, so I figured I'd make it. Who do you guys think should be the next manager of the Brewers? For me, I really think it should be Dale Sveum. I think it should have been Sveum back in the 08 offseason. I mean, what more does he have to do to convince Doug Melvin that he should be our manager? He's got 213 wins as a minor league manager (rated as the Top Managerial Prospect in the Eastern League a few years back), he won the World Series as the Third Base Coach of the Red Sox back in 04, and he's been with the Brewers since 2006. He knows everyone on the team, and everyone in the clubhouse clearly likes Sveum a lot. Seriously, why should he not be our manager? (Who do I think Melvin will give the job to? Randolph, probably. It should be Sveum.) (As for GM's, I'd like either David Forst or Rick Hahn. You guys can talk about GM's, too, if you are so inclined. Fwiw, no, I don't think Melvin will be fired.)
