  1. This is pretty much it. I was hopeful for YoGa, Estrada, and Lohse, but they've been wracked by inconsistency. Nobody else has stepped up at all. So many arms, and they all pretty much stink.
  2. I was afraid that ARam might get thrown out at 3rd there. Pretty sure Gomez would be safe at second though. That would have been quite a sight.
  3. I wouldn't trust that guy any farther than I could throw him. Which wouldn't be far considering all of the layers of grease involved. Yuck.
  4. As far as the viewership statistics for women, there are A LOT of old ladies who watch/listen to most games. I'd even venture to say that in the 60+ demographic there are more women fans than men. I don't know any exact numbers but it seems this way to me.
  5. In 2 ABs, Yuni B has very nearly surpassed Weeks' last 2 weeks of production in the 4 spot.
  6. Vin Scully is a mesmerizing robot. That voice is vaguely human, but the opposite of unpleasant. So soooothhinhgr;zzzzzzzz
  7. Really? That doesn't really seem like a suitable reason for a scratch. I guess he could probably use a day off anyway, but I'd almost prefer if they didn't give that as the reason.
  8. It depends how many wins your current ballclub is expected to have at the end of the year. The point of playing the game is to make the playoffs--so if you are going to do that or very well might do that it seems silly to just trade away your good veterans. And scouting is obviously not exactly a science. It would have been great to trade Fielder a few years back. I would think he would've gotten a return similar to Greinke's. I don't think GMs are willing to part with top caliber prospects for the likes of a Hart, ARam or Weeks though. Not that you couldn't still trade those guys for mid-level prospects--but that makes it even harder to do if you have a decent chance to make the playoffs with those kinds of guys. So far, we got really lucky with the Segura deal. Can't count on that every time.
  9. In addition to saving millions by locking him up early, there is also cost certainty that enables for easier budgeting. I wouldn't have a problem with extending him through his arbitration years plus maybe one year of free agency, but I don't think I'd go beyond that without a lot of vesting options through significant performance clauses.
  10. A. I don't trust the ages of any Latin American players. B. When players have similar OBP, the one with the higher BA is the more valuable player. I understand that having a good eye is an important skill to have, but by all accounts Segura swings at the right pitches.
  11. And a .500 ballclub has 154 chances to begin an 8 game winning streak over the course of the season--so it should happen once every couple years to a .500 ballclub. As should an 8 game losing streak.
  12. Everything is going according to plan. Henderson has looked awfully good. We could go from having the worst bullpen in the league (results wise) to one of the better bullpens in the league very quickly. This team could be pretty good.
  13. And now we get to start a west coast trip with Lohse, Gallardo, and a suddenly stable bullpen. Very nice.
  14. No kidding. It's been ridiculous in the last week. He just turned into a wealthy man's Adam Dunn.
  15. Winning a lot sure makes for a boring, quiet message board. Somebody whine about something! I need my fix of attempting to calm irrational knee-jerk reactionary posters.
  16. http://mlblogsosayorioles.files.wordpress.com/2012/05/god-and-baseball-graphic.jpg
  17. They were both on the base. Both were tagged, making Braun out right there. Then Segura ran back to first for no reason. The only way that could have been "better" is if GoGo was on second instead of Braun and decided to run to third.
  18. Gameday had Axford anywhere from 92 to 96 on the 4 seamer. If he sits at 95 he's alright.
  19. I will say that each commercial break is broken down into "local" and "state wide"/"National" portions. So, when I see a local Milwaukee ad on a brewers telecast, the people in Eau Claire are probably seeing a local Eau Claire ad. Yeah, that's what I thought. I was thinking about it all wrong though. MJ answered my question originally--basically saying that the dispersion of the market cheapens how much the local advertising is worth, which makes sense. Just wasn't thinking right.
  20. Not true, at least according to Direct TV. Not sure about local cable operators though. Also, nobody lives up there (except my kin of course--Brewer fans, naturally).
  21. Thanks for more of the breakdown, MJ. What is the breakdown of "local" advertising versus national advertising, and is there a price difference? I don't think Miller Lite much cares where somebody lives when viewing their ads. Also, how is a jump from 1.9M in the Milwaukee market to 5.7M in the Wisconsin market NOT a significant jump? Also--can't local ads be sold and "regionalized" within the state--i.e. Eau Claire, Green Bay, and Madison cable operators can substitute in their own local ads rather than use Milwaukee's?
  22. It sure would be nice to take 2/3 from the Cubs with our #3 -#5 starters, and begin the West Coast trip with Lohse and Gallardo on the mound.
