  1. If Hader wasn’t tied down to the 9th it probably would’ve made sense to have him pitch the 8th versus Pederson who is historically pretty bad against LHPs.
  2. Reminds me of how many Jacob deGrom gems the Mets have spoiled over the past few years. Has to be disheartening for a pitcher.
  3. That’s just the Cubs second hit in their past 49 at bats against Brewers pitching going back to late in Monday’s game.
  4. That looked like a fair ball. Wow, that hurts. Edit: Unfortunately the kind of call that could prove the difference in a game like this.
  5. Right on cue Keston misses a grounder that somehow results in a throwing error on Robertson for backing up the misplay.
  6. Yes, it appears the Brewers lineup has changed since it was first released. That’s disappointing because among Brewers hitters Wong has arguably the best career track record against Kyle Hendricks.
  7. Joc Pederson batting 5th for the Cubs, in his three previous at bats versus Woodruff he’s 3-3, with 2 home runs.
  8. Brandon Woodruff: Batter (Cubs) vs Pitching Stats Kyle Hendricks: Batter (Brewers) vs Pitching Stats Statcast Game Preview for Cubs-Brewers Statcast Game Feed for Cubs-Brewers
  9. I don’t think so and I certainly don’t think that either HBP was on purpose this week, but McCalvy shared this and I guess I hadn’t realized the Brewers have now hit Contreras in 6 of the last 11 games in which they’ve faced him.
  10. Imagine thinking Boxberger is so good that the Brewers would be willing to plunk the leadoff hitter in the 9th when you haven’t won a game in 5 days.
  11. Omar Narvaez is 6-for-12 with a home run, so far he’s followed up his strong spring training with some regular season production. ...and he’s broke up two no hitters!
  12. I think we have the winning answer here. Similarly when Shaw was replaced previously out of the two-hole in the order it appeared to be predetermined he was going to be replaced as part of a late game switch.
  13. They also put Shaw in the #2 spot earlier this year and I was equally perplexed at that decision. Shaw has bottom 10th percentile speed in MLB. Vogelbach is even slower, a bottom 5th percentile runner in baseball. I am sure they have some research that shows putting a base clogger in front of your fastest guys doesn’t really matter in the grand scheme, but it seems weird to me that Vogelbach and Shaw are hitting right in front of Yelich and JBJ. I’d rather they just hit Yelich #2.
  14. Cain is out of the lineup once again. He last played in a game on Saturday. Vogelbach batting second and playing 1B tonight. Shaw is back starting at 3B. Wong 2B (L) Vogelbach 1B (L) Yelich LF (L) Shaw 3B (L) Bradley CF (L) Garcia RF Narvaez C (L) Urias SS Peralta P Brewers are loading up with 6 left-handed batters in the lineup. In his very brief career thus far Alzolay has been much tougher on RHH (.612 OPS against in 74 plate appearances) than LHH (.817 OPS against in 73 plate appearances). He’s only pitched 33.2 MLB innings over 10 games, so not exactly a sample worth counting on.
  15. Freddy Peralta: Batter (Cubs) vs Pitching Stats Adbert Alzolay: Batter (Brewers) vs Pitching Stats Statcast Game Preview for Cubs-Brewers Statcast Game Feed for Cubs-Brewers
  16. The failure to score with the bases loaded and one out in the 6th inning tonight ended up being the likely difference, but woof were there some awful at bats. The Brewers hitters seem to be so poor at pitch recognition. They’re just guessing, and unfortunately guessing wrong much more often than not.
