  1. I think they are doing that because of the whole incident with Yu Darvish... who... [checks notes]... now plays for the Padres.
  2. According to Statcast he threw the 5 fastest pitches in this game, all above 96-mph. I think the only one that was 93 was the ball at Contreras’ head.
  3. The command seems really shaky from Devin tonight. I guess that’s what can happen when you go a full week without throwing in a game situation.
  4. Narvaez has looked like the Brewers best hitter this year, and it’s not particularly close.
  5. Good for Counsell. I don’t think the ump has been nearly as consistent tonight as Rock claims.
  6. Williams didn’t throw Yelich a single pitch in the zone that entire at-bat. Four pitches all below the zone.
  7. The Brewers and Cubs should just agree to play the whole game with the extra innings runner rule.
  8. Lineups have been added to initial post. Brewers with a perfect L-R-L-R-L-R-L-R-L lineup tonight. Includes Arcia and Bradley Jr over Shaw and Cain. Maybe they did put some stock into past performances versus Williams? LHHs Joc Pederson and Jason Heyward not in the lineup for the Cubs tonight.
  9. Trevor Williams has been tough on the Brewers in the past, Yelich, Cain, and Shaw are a combined 2-for-32 with no extra base hits and 14 strikeouts against him. On the flip side, Hiura is 4-for-7 with 3 home runs and 1 double against Williams. Other current Brewers with moderate past success against Williams include Kolten Wong (7-for-18, 1 HR) and Orlando Arcia (5-for-16, 2 2B, 1 HR). The Cubs hitters have a much smaller samples size facing Brett Anderson (54 plate appearances), but have combined for a 1.064 OPS against the southpaw.

  11. If I’m reading his Baseball Reference splits page correctly it appears the Brewers have scored 2 runs or less in 15 of his previous 29 starts.
  12. 26 of 28 in offense entering today, it looks like they are on track to finish the day 27 of 28 Ok, I re-read this a few times trying to understand. What does 26 of 28 refer to?
  13. Reds just went up 10-1 on the Cardinals. I enjoy seeing the Cardinals get pummeled.
  14. Trust me, I’m not trying to tell anyone else how worried they should or shouldn’t be. I’m not close to worried about Yelich yet (a little closer to worried about Keston), but if you are then I certainly understand the reason for concern.
  15. Great throw by Piña! Also really glad the Twins wasted their challenge already.
  16. Use the link at the top of the page (opening post) that says Batter versus Pitching stats for Pineda and you can review each current Brewers player’s career stats versus Pineda. They didn’t all play for the Brewers during their previous outings against Pineda (i.e. Bradley Jr, Shaw, etc.).
  17. This time of year I have an admittedly goofy way to look at the start of the season. I think of the baseball season in terms of a football season (i.e. 10 baseball games = 1 football game). Basically right now we haven’t even quite reached the end of the 1st quarter of the first game if it’s football season. I start to get a little more worried about things once we get through “one football game”.
  18. Both Wong and Hiura had exit velocities >90-mph on good looking swings, unfortunately they both needed to barrel it just a little better for hits.
  19. I remain convinced Houser would be better suited to have a left-handed opener in front of him to start games.
  20. If you’re looking for a reason to be optimistic after last night’s one hit performance, the current Brewers hitters have a combined .332 BA / .366 OBP / .520 SLG (.887 OPS) career line against Michael Pineda over 80 total plate appearances.
