  1. Mass, Would you agree that a person can conclude that Matt Kinney and Wes Obie are unacceptable starting pitchers? They dont throw strikes, they dont throw hard and they (especially Obie) have never had a ton of success. Kinney flashed some signs of life early last year but the overall picture is that they, for lack of a better word, suck. Putting the arby clock issue aside, would you be in favor of just throwing caution to the wind and go with a rotation of Sheets, Davis, Hendrickson, Seanz and Capuano? I would. I cant take any more of Helms and I sure cant take any more of our starting pitchers walking the brewers into huge deficits. I am all for sweeping changes. Send Obie and Kinney packing and begin the influx of young arms.
  2. I seriously cant take Helms one more game. Yost is driving me nuts. Helms cant hit. Its over. He is the rick ankiel of hitting. In fact I would rather have Ankiel at the plate. Ned. Come on. You are 1 1/2 out of first place. You owe it to everyone concerned to field your best team. Get serious.
  3. As far as jenks hitting the ball "near the catchers mit" or "behind his body it breaks down like this. If the ball is on the inner half jenks can turn open his hips slightly and attempt to hit the ball out in front of home plate. The result should be a shot to right field. If it is down the middle the goal is to also hit the ball out in front of home but try to shoot it to dead center. If the pitch is on the outer half the hips need to actually close ( turning back slightly towards the pitcher) and let the ball get deep into the hitting zone. It gives the batter more time to just richocet the ball towards left field. If a left handed batter attempted to open his hips and pull an outside pitch like that the ball hits the end of the bat. Thats called a double play.
  4. I am starting to wonder about Yost. The brewers have a chance for 3 wins in a row but somehow the team HR leader and the hottest hitter in the lineup both dont see any action. Very smooth. This obsession with Helms is really getting ugly. Really ugly. I cant stand watching him any more. This has gone way beyond any sense of reason. Helms flat out sucks. Ginter rakes. Ned, this is about winning games. Helms is killing rallies left and right. I am totally frustrated with this whole damn thing. I like Ned but he is dead wrong about Helms.
  5. Mass...keep us posted on the filth-o-meter. Its killing me to not see this game.
  6. Adrian Hernandez might be pitching his way toward a future start. MVP of the day.
  7. I still say that the stats lie when talking about Hernandez. He has really good stuff. In the long run he will prove to be significantly better than Ford or Bennett. I hope Ned begins using AH a bit more. He will end up being more valuable than Ford or Bennett despite what the current stats say.
  8. KG is just too good a hitter to be a bench player. Helms is the odd man out. Seriously Ned, Wes is not the hitter that KG is. We need every weapon we can get. KG has to start.
  9. Slide, I think you nailed that lineup. Furthermore, I am really starting to wonder if Helms should be starting. I have been defending him for a long time but Ginter is a better player. Keith needs to start over Wes.
  10. 420 isnt another term for smoking pot as reported above. 4:20 is the ceremonial time when smokers light up. AM or PM.
  11. Whats the Brewers record on grass?
  12. Its time to weed out the men from the boys. You'd have to be a dope to not realise that.
  13. Yost might consider starting Clark in CF and converting Podsednik to Right. Luzinski, as far as taking to many pitches tonight. I agree. There is no point in attempting to work a count vs a pitcher who is that hot. If the first pitch is anywhere close, hack away. Once they were down to 2 strikes I was reaching for the damn remote. Big game tomorow. I dont think they want to play for the split vs clemens on Sunday.
  14. I dont think Podsednik is anywhere close to average defensively. If he is average who are the 14-15 CF who are worse? He is in the bottom 5-10 defensively in MLB.
  15. Bailey and Adenhart are looking more and more likely.
  16. XIS, If I bought you for what you were worth, and sold you for what you think you are worth, I could retire.
  17. There is NO WAY in hell that on April 12th, 2004 you would deal Sheets for 1/3 of those mentioned. Right now, today I dont believe a GM is going to deal a pitcher who threw in the upper 90's for 6 innings for anyone straight up. No chance. I am not saying that in May, if sheets is back down to 93mph and pitching only above average that his status wont change. I am saying that.....as of today.....there arent many guys who you could even consider dealing Ben for. Not after his last start. I am not rushing to judgement about anything. I am saying as of 4-12-04, status quo, Sheets is untouchable.
  18. The point is...based on what Bens arm is looking like right now....there arent very many guys I would be willing to deal him for straight up. Starters who hit 99 for 6-7 innings are not common. If he continues to throw like he did this week he leaps towards the top of the list in MLB.
  19. Endaround... Of those 6 pitchers only wood is capable of reaching 99. Wood and Prior have serious injury concerns. I certainly dont think Mulder or Hudson have the stuff of Sheets allthough they have good track records. Arm for arm I wouldnt be willing to deal sheets for either based on how Ben looks right now. Yes....Prior and Vasquez are pitchers that it would be hard to pass on....but my point all along is that if Ben can stand out there and throw strikes at 98-99 mph for 6-7 innings there isnt a long list of guys that can match that. I stand by that statement. In fact I think the only one on that list who can go 98 for 7 is probably Wood but I dont really know what his velocity is like this year.
  20. give me a list then smart guy. You go on record saying you only actually watch the Brewers 35% of the time and then run your fat mouth. Give me a list of other starters who are around Sheets age that are showing they can hit 99 on the gun through 6 innings. We are all waiting. In fact they dont even have to be his age. They just need to be in MLB. Go ahead. Fire away. Give me a list of Starters who you would be willing to trade Sheets straight up for given the fact that Sheets just showed that he is young and basically unhittable when he can spot his pitches. Are you willing to deal Bens arm away right now?? I am not. Lets have the list smart man.
  21. Sheets rocks. After sitting there watching him light up double 9's several times at MP I am not sure there is a starter in the league that I would be willing to trade Sheets for Straight up. If he can maintain that velocity he is in the league of Prior/Wood/Beckett/Johnson and others. Prior might be the only guy in his class if he stays on course.
  22. Wicked Heat....why do you think Sheets wasnt throwing 98-99?? No one else was hitting those numbers. Redding was 92 tops. Viscaino hit 95 once i believe. Sheets was several mph better than anyone else who threw.
  23. Not sure if this has been covered but... Sheets hit 99 at least 3 times on the in house radar. I was at the game and he was 96-99 all day. It was awesome! Ninety freakin Nine. Thrice.
  24. I disagree with the critique of Hernandez. Without question he is pitching into horrible luck. He didnt get hit hard today at all. Squibbers, bloops and horrible defense had more to do with his line than his pitches. Podsednick should be fined for his half ass attempt at that bloop late in the game. That wasnt Adrian's fault. AH can pitch. Its early. He will show his stuff soon.
  25. I dont care what his stats say right now, Adrian Hernandez is a pitcher. He will totally rebound. His stuff is wicked.
