  1. it's been over a year, so i thought i'd ask for a forum for fantasy sports. you created an entire website for the packers. what's one little forum for fantasy baseball? We'd be willing to share the softball forum. how many threads can a softball forum really need? . trust me if you create one, people will come and post in it. a lot of the posts on the major league forum are starting to become fantasy baseball related.
  2. to make this long story short, I posted a question in my league. it read "Why Capellan? Why him ? why now? just curious." we shall see what his reply is. it's been over 4 days since I posted the question on our league board and the guy has not responded. he's just keeping capaleean as an NA relief pitcher. Like i said earlier, in a league that doesn't use holds as a category, having Capellan makes little sense. but picking him up and keeping him while he's down at AAA makes less sense.
  3. The St. Petersburg Times reports Tampa Bay Devil Rays 2B Jorge Cantu will be used at first base for Triple-A Durham and also at second and third to increase his versatility. they did something similar with Wiggington and Huff. Looks like they are obviously trying to showcase him for a possible trade. i doubt he returns to the drays.
  4. I agree with you team canada. feel free to lock or redirect the thread. it just seemed very odd to me that a fantasy player in a league that doesn't have holds as a category or a farm system would just out of the blue go out and pick up Capellan for his team. Since Capellan is not on the brewers' dl, he is wasting a roster space by doing so. This did not seem to be an ordinary or a smart move. it seemed more like a move made with insider information. it's one thing to go out and pick up a Clemens or a prior or pedro and stash them on your team. but why would anybody go out and pick up Capellan? the owner is a smart owner and not in last place. that's the reason I asked and started a new thread.
  5. I'm curious. on capellan's profile, yahoo reported Washington is interested, and one of my fantasy opponents picked him up today. a lot of my fantasy opponents have inside info. is he jumping the gun? or is there a scoop? or some truth to what he knows?
  6. I like Dayton. it's a fairly new park, and they average over 8,000 fans to see midwest league A games. They were 5th in the nation in dip-n-dot sales two years ago which included sales in major league parks. They have a waiting list for ticket sales as long as the Packers do. if you want to see a game, you have to buy a season ticket. Admittedly, it's in the heart of Reds country. but you can't find better fan and city support or, can we give New Orleans a second chance? what is the rule of changing the affiliation of an AA team? Could the brewers make a deal with a place that is currently hosting a AA team? I was thinking of possibly Birmingham, San Antonio or Orlando. Birmingham is close to Huntsville, and has been historically a good AA town. I can't believe San Antonio could not support a AAA team.
  7. yes it is legal to drive without wearing pants. I know a lot of people who drive without wearing pants. they wear what is called a dress or a skirt.
  8. Well sorry kim, paying you $2.5 million is just too much to take a flyer on you, and being able to correct your bad habits. I'm begining to really get interested in acquiring brad lidge though. Buy now while his value is low.
  9. one of my baseball books said he was traded to the Reds last 6 September for cash considerations although he never pitched for the reds. . very odd. Since he's back with Colorado, I have to believe he was signed to a minimum contract. kim is an intreaguing player. but sometimes it's best to just stay on the interstate freeway than to take the short cut.
  10. Living in dayton the past 5 years, and watching bowden make his mark on the Reds, I would believe he already has his closer in waiting in Ryan Wagner. one of his first moves as the Nationals GM was to bring former Reds Kearns, Lopez and Wagner to D.C. Wagner was an All American closer in college the year he was drafted. that said, looking at what Bowden has done as the National's GM, he will not just give away a player. He allowed Soriano to walk rather than trade him for the garbage that was offered for him. he valued the 2 first round picks he received for allowing Soriano to leave as better than the offers he received. He traded a bunch of garbage to acquire Soriano (Sledge, wilkerson and P Armando Galarraga). He stole kearns, Lopez and Wagner from the Reds last year for a bag of onions that included Royce Clayton. you are not going to be able to fool Bowden into giving away Cordero unless you include some quality player that is going to start for his team. Bowden is not on the hot seat to produce a winner this year. even on a bad team, a closer can still help save 35-40 games. The Nationals depth is their young outfielders. They don't really need a third baseman. First base is a question. they have Broadway who is maybe a year away and has some power. Starting pitching is always a question. catching is suspect. I don't really see a hole on the Nationals that the brewers would be able to fill given our depth in the minors. I'd hate to give up one of our best starting pitching prospects to try to acquire Cordero. I'm quite sure bowden would accept bush or capuano as fair compensation for cordero. I doubt highly he would accept quantity for quality. it's one thing for a Gm to say a player is available. it's another thing to be able to meet his asking price.
  11. with regards to cappy, the brewers' history will reflect we've given away a lot of pitchers who later turned into being great middle relievers for other teams. David Weathers comes to mind as a recent example. I would believe the reason Cappy is still with us is that melvin realizes he does have talent. obviously several other teams have made inquiries. I would hate to give up on cappy and have him join the long list of great middle relievers that were once brewers. as for Lidge, interdivison trades happen more often than people will openly admit. the brewers have made trades with the cardinals and cubs in the past 5 years. the pirates have made trades with several teams in our division. the reds have made trades with the cubs and other central divison teams. Admittedly, these trades didn't involve star players. but star players are very rarely traded anyway. I looked at some of lidge's stats, and I saw an awesome reliever on paper. he's 31, so maybe he's starting to lose his edge. but he has a tremendous ko/walk ratio, a great batting average, a great whip. he did give up a lot of homers last year compared with previous years. perhaps he was just challenging hitters, and they met the challenge. I just looked at Chad cordero's stats from last year. Lidge gave up 10 homers. Chad cordero gave up 13 last year. Francisco Cordero gave up 5 homers as a ranger and 2 as a brewer. Turnbow gave up 8 homers. I would have no problem acquiring lidge and trying to straighten his psych. I' m not sure what the Astros would want in return. And an acquisition of lidge or Cordero is going to add to an already inflated payroll. Would i trade turnbow for lidge? Capellan for lidge? mench for lidge? vargus for lidge and let Villueza start? i don't know.
  12. kim is an intreaguing commodity. the problem is how do you use him? he used to be a great closer, then he fell apart. he was an ok starter, but then he would throw mistake pitches and get bombed. a long reliever/spot starter? a middle short reliever? I'm not really sure where he could best be utilized to fully utilize his talent. he does have talent. no question. but he makes a lot of mistakes. Are the mistakes he makes based on bad pitches? or bad calls from his catcher? the rockies have not been known for their catchers. I don't know. given a choice of Capellan or Kim it's a tough call. kim is only 28 years old. His last good year was in 2003. I think it would be unfair to Kim to just look at his stats. his stats for the last 3 years have been admittedly worse than mediocre. A question would be does he still have his good stuff? and could we correct his bad pitches and bad habits?
  13. I originally mentioned barnes and cantu not really looking at their talent levels or their contracts, but rather they are both players their teams want to unload fast to some other team. When the brewers were able to acquire Ohka, it was not because they offered the Nationals a fair deal for him. it was because Ohka and Frank Robinson could no longer co-exist. and the Nationals jumped on the first offer they received. That's why i specuate, if the brewers were really that interested in trading Capellan, i'm sure the rockies would gladly give us Barnes in a heartbeat, and the Drays would probably give us Cantu in exchange for him. Are these equal trades? Do we really want either Cantu or Barnes? probably not. but these are guys who are definitely available. I'd rather have one of these players than the $100,000 toronto accepted. the question is, do we keep Capellan at AAA because we expect Acquino to fall apart soon? or do we trade him for waht's currently available? i said i before, i doubt any team will trade us a pitcher for him because pitching is very short supply. if a team had quality pitching, they wouldn't want to trade for capellan.
  14. I remember meyer. I think at the time we got Capellan, many of us wanted meyer. he was supposed to be a great pitcher. what ever happened to him? as for colorado, they have a couple of extra catchers and infielders. Toreabela and barnes are probably looking for new homes, and Colorado is trying to find one for them. Somehow i doubt Colorado gives the brewers a pitcher in return for Capellan.
  15. TB desparately needs a reliever. Cap could be their closer if he wanted to be. Cantu could provide a 3-4 month stop gap at third until braun arrives. the guys i really want are upton and/or baldelli. but that's not going to happen. Casey blake would also be a nice value for cap. Blake can play first, third and outfield. or to houston for Loretta. houston's relievers are not looking good. I think Loretta would be a great fit. We could throw in graffy.
  16. there's a difference in competing and winning. the blue jays also have a payroll twice the size as tampa Bay. Tampa bay has no chance in that Division to ever be successful.
  17. the drays will never be the team to beat as long as they are in the same divison as the yankees and boston. they have to play each team 17 times. that's 30 losses every year. the drays will also never be able to compete financially with either team While the Drays may have a lot better prospects, all the Yankees and red Sox have to do is buy an all star from japan and it won't count against their free agent compensation. or just sign an unrestricted free agent to fill whatever hole they have. the best hope the D rays have is if MLB decides to go with two 15 team leagues, and incorporates more interleague play to make the schedules work. I think the Drays would be a good team if they only had to play the yankees and red Sox 8-10 times a year and they played the royals and Cubs and reds more often. let's face it Steinbrenner owns the Tampa Bay area.
  18. dRays are a strange bunch. their potentia l closer orvella had a monster spring with an ERA under 2 and they send him down to AAA.
  19. how about mench for cantu? i read that norton was placed on the dl.
  20. he was my starting 2b in two of my yahoo leagues. now it's a mad scramble to find a replacement. I could see it coming, but I thought tampa bay would just make him their dh rather than outrighting him to AAA. their japanese import is batting less than .200 this spring and has complained numerous times about needing rest. it's too bad. i would have loved to try to pry Upton away from tampa bay this off season before they realized he could play second.
  21. at the last toby keith concert i went to, the lady in the row front of us started dancing and then lost her pants. my wife wasn't impressed with her, and my son got a close up view of a lady's thongs - something he didn't know existed. She pulled her pants back up and then started dancing again. Wierd al is in concert? Hmmm. i might have to load up the truck and family for a 4th of the july reunion tour- see summerfest, watch the fireworks, go to the zoo, say hi to my brother, visit the dells, eat some cheese curds, go to a brewers game, complain about the roof. and maybe buy a prince fielder bat. I hear there is one for sale. they see me mowin' my front yard. because i'm fat, ham on, I'm just addicted to spuds, but i can't decide if i should have the rye, the kaiser or the white stuff. but don't play that song- that achy breaky song. don't dare me to be stupid. why? because I also lost on jeopardy and I've been living with this hearnia too long. I love those rockie roads, taco grande and lasagna. a perfect song for our brewer stats friends : it's all about the pentiums. if it smells like Nirvana, it must be a Wierd Al song. Did I mention I'm kind of like a surgeon? for the very first time? let's go out to the drive through.
  22. if he produces, I'll learn how to spell his name correctly. i have no problem spelling Hank Aaron's name. Bonds is easy too! Celmens. Jeter. Poolholes see - no problem. maybe Cowncel should legally change the spelling of his name like Marilyn Monroe and Anna Nicole did. . looking back at my family tree, my last name used to be spelled baegley, then bagley, then biglo, then biglow, then bigelow. I guess they felt they could sell more tea with that last spelling. I'm not one to complain. if they hadn't changed my family name from baegley to bigelow, I could be known as Bag Reed instead of Big Reed. and we wouldn't want that would we? at least, I wouldn't want that.
  23. I'm kind of surprised nobody claimed him yet. I would speculate some team has already contacted him and informed him they will sign him after the waive deadline has passed in order that they don't have to pick up his contract. it would be very interesting if the brewers did that and then immediately waived graffy; only to see the padres sign graffy after he cleared waivers.
  24. the white sox are getting very concerned about their closer jenks. and they don't appreciate the third baseman they have in crede. they have an up and coming third baseman named Fields the y would like to play. a turnbow package deal for Crede deal wouldn't be so bad. throw in an extra outfielder.
  25. I like walker. we could always sign walker and trade graffy. I'm kind of surprised melvin didn't try to work out a graffy for walker deal. SD didn't really want Walker back, and they wanted graffy. Walker scorched SD in their arby hearing. I thought council was our back-up at ss and 2b. and graffy was our back-up at 2b and 3b. I could see Walker as a back-up at 2b and 3b. Easily.
