  1. weeks gross and hart may all be better than gwynn as lead-off hitters, but gross is a bench player. In their prime, Weeks and hart should be batting lower in the order. Molitor started out hitting lead-off. In his prime, he shifted down to third. Robbie Alomar did the same. it would be nice if Weeks were able to follow in the path of those two second baseman and come close t o their accomplishments.. I stil l say Soriano should not be leading off. last year, crawford batted some lead-off and he batted some in the third position. If traded for hall, i could see crawford batting first or third this year. i find it hard to believe Crawford is 2 years younger than hall, yet people still prefer the homegrown hall. I am saddened the biggest complaint against trying to acquire Crawford is that his contract is shorter and he gets paid more. I am saddened brewers fans always have to be practical and look to their pocketbook first before evaluating any trade proposal. and then say, we can't afford him. the only negative about crawford is his contract. For what he does, he's a bargain I have a dream that some day brewers fan will no longer discriminate against players because of their contract demands. I have a dream that one day the Brewers can afford to go after whomever they please and the contract money talks be dammed. that is my dream, my hope, my quest! .
  2. Sam, that is not the real story. You must be confused. the real story is that the cow had eaten so much grass, that he had to take a break. When he came back after relieving himself, he was saddened to find that the artist had left.
  3. brats simmer; on the grill, beer awaits. none better on my brat than saurkraut. no ketchup on my brat just mustard the face smiles hunger gone, brewers win.
  4. rauschenberg is a true genius. goat tire the brownness of it all look into the goat's eye. true emotion ! it says to me, if i don't do this stupid sculpture, i'll soon become jummy Dean pork sausage.
  5. in the year the spurs drafted Duncan, they did have a very bad record. they were not the worst team in the league that year. they had either the third or 4th worst record. Additionally, the odds for the first team getting the first pick were not as stacked as they are now. So it was kind of common for the third or 4th or 7th best team to get the first pick. the worst team was also not guaranteed anything. many people have said the Spurs backed into the lottery because David robinson was injured. What was supposed to be a normal 6 week injury turned into a season ending injury as the Spurs told robinson to just rest until the season was over. if robinson had come back to play, when first expected, many experts believe the Spurs could have easily won 38-40 games and would not have been part of the lottery. however, after his injury and Elliot's injury, they just decided to toss in the towell on the season.
  6. it would make sense for the brewers. the brewers have no logical lead-off hitter other than gwynn. Weeks bats lead-off, but tha t position is not reall y where he should be batting. Soriano shouldn't be a lead -off hitter either. but the Cubs are stupid. i like Crawford. always have. always will. i wouldn't trade hall because he's slumping. i'd trade hall because we're getting somebody very good in return. A lot of people hated trading porter and lezcano away. but we got Fingers and Simmons in return. Sometimes, both teams win in a trade. I doubt Tampa bay would see hall as their future CF, SS or 3B. but they have some outfield slots, and they have a dh slot.
  7. I noticed the 2007 topps cards have mascots as part of their card set. I got a bernie brewer card. anybody know if it will have any sort of value? I also have about 50,000 unsorted cards. i tried to ask a dealer how to sell these cards, and he wanted me to catalog them. i don't have the time to look in all these boxes to catalog them. is there an easier way to sell them? they date back to about 1986. there are probably a bunch or good rookie cards mixed in.
  8. the white painting a true masterpiece. last-tapes.blogspot.com/2...nting.html
  9. the question i would raise, is it a print? an oil painting? or a lithograph? is it available online? or through a local art gallery? I have found a lot of great art on sale at ebay. i mus t have this dog. I'll give you $435,000 for it. Your 5 minute ms paint copy is nothing like the original. you sir, are a bad artist! a cheap imitator! the weiner dog in it's pure form - now that was art. below is art in it's purist form found on my living room wall at home. O it's a polar bear in a snow storm looking the other way with its tail up. the symbolism is so profound. i titled it Polar bear hole have you ever seen the "white" painting hung at the Smithsonian National Art gallery in Wash DC ? it's a thing of pure beauty.
  10. the lottery probably isn't fixed. however, it didn't prevent teams from tanking either. i had thought the original intent for the placement of a lottery was to eliminate the teams from tanking. Since tanking always happens to some degree in every sport, i see no real need to keep the NBA lottery. even baseball has gone to a last = first draft. Just think of all the conspiracies that would be formed if Baseball had a lottery draft.
  11. my theory is that you weight the balls you don't want to come up. you don't have to weight 4 balls. all you really have to do is ensure there is one weighted ball for every possible combo for a particular team. let's say the bucks had 50 different combos. if the number 12 is included in 26 of those combos, and the 38 is included in the remaining 24 combos, then the bucks would never have a winning combo. realistically, i doubt the bucks had any more than 20 possible winning combos. if you weighted 4 balls, yo u could easily have one of those 4 balls in each of the 20 combos and nobody would ever suspect a thing. A question i would ask, as the balls came out of the shoot and the number combos were posted on the board, was there a numbered ball that never seemed to come up and be posted? if the #5 ball never came out of the shoot fr any of the combos posted, i would say that ball was somehow weighted? Did one numbered ball seem to come up out of the shoot more often than not? then that #3 ball would have been made lighter before being placed in the shoot. an easy way to disprove my theory would be to have the number combos for each team to be published and then compared with each other and the frequency of a ball coming out of the shoot. if all the balls came out of the shoot with similar frequency, then it's not rigged. however, if several balls came out of the shoot a significant amount less than others, and those numbers were associated with the combo numbers on the Bucks, celtics and grizzlies, then we have a big problem. Additionally, if the celtics, grizzlies and bucks all had combos containing similar numbers, then we also have a problem. example: the Bucks had a 4 number combo of 1, 3, 5, 10. the grizzlies had a combo of 1, 5, 7, 13 the celtics had a combo of 1 , 7, 10, 14. and then the 1 ball never seems to pop up out the shoot. poof goes the chances of the Bucks, celtics and grizzlies. or to make sure those three teams never win, the 1, 5 and 7 ball could be weighted. and portland and seattle and atlanta would have to have combos that did not include those numbers. as I said, a way to remove any doubt of the lottery being fixed would be to reveal the team combination numbers, and also a reflection of the number of times each numbered ball came out of the shoot. if all the balls came out of the shoot wit h equal frequency, that would help dispell the conspiracy theory. Did an y agency outside the NBA keep an accurate account of these two things? or are they kept secret within the NBA? i would see no reason why the NBA would not be willing to show the codes after the fact, unless they had something to hide.
  12. it's very easy to rig the ping pong system. just use weighted ping pong balls for the combos that certain teams have. and then use lighter balls for the number of the combos that you want to be winners. in this manner, the weighted balls will stay within the container, and any combo that contained that weighted ball would not come up. two things stand out- the combinations each team had that would have made them a winner were never revealed. if you weighted 3-4 balls, you could also ensure all of the bucks' or celtics or memphis combos had one of those 4 weighted balls Thus none of their possible winning combos would ever happen. I loved the fact they said the balls were locked inside a briefcase so that the lottery balls could not be tampered with. in other words, they were already tampered with, and Stern didn't want anybody to play with them to realize they were tampered. Did anybody look at all the balls and weigh them before or after the lottery was conducted ? the answer is no. to the untrained eye, a weighted ping pong ball looks the same as a reguar one. all you have to do is make the outer shell of the ball thicker. Dicks sporting goods sells three different grades of ping pong balls. you can't tell the difference between any of them other than the price. it's obvious to me stern wanted to send a message to the three teams that tanked the most. he rigged the lottery to ensure that all three lost out.
  13. a hilarious comment made by dan patrick today. when these guys are in front of a camera and a microphone, they must realize the things they say are recorded and the camera is turned on, don't they?
  14. the cardinals traded todd Zeile to the Cubs. the brewers traded Jamey wright to the Cardinals. interdivison trades happen a lot more often than people realize. the reason there are so few interdivison trades is that very few deadline trades are made to begin with, and when you are talking about inter division, that means there are only 3-4 trading partners, and it is often hard to match up holes and strengths. They were talking about the Cardinals' plight on the radio today. their farm system is bleak. the y need outfielders and they need starting pitching - bad. they do have a couple of very nice relievers. I think we could see a starter from the brewers for a reliever from the Cards work out very nicely for both teams. jackson for franklin?
  15. what's fun to watch is all these same football players trying to read apology speeches written for them by their agents after the fact of them opening their mouth and trying to get their foot out of it. We all know Portis is going to have some type of retraction speech later this week. it should be fun to listen to. . I seen several of these NFL players reading speeches prepared for them and stumble over most of the words. Often times they will read a speech and have no clue what they have just said. favre is one of the smarter football players. favre opens up his press conference by saying he doesn't want to create any waves. but dog gone it, we should have traded for randy moss. he wanted to be a packer and was willing to accept less money. it's a shame we didn't get that deal done. You didn't make any waves with that comment favre- just national and state headlines. I'm surprised TT is still alive after your remarks. as portis said , Vick is a leading role model in his community. he serves beer and brats at his dog fights. most other people in town only serve little wienies and pigs feet. I wonder if he has a non-smoking section to watch his dog fights?
  16. I met his dad working in the luxury box suites. his dad is kind of nice. Rather quiet and shy.
  17. I have to wonder with our current payroll how much more payroll the brewers could acquire. Normally you would see a team trade a prospect for a vet if they're in the race. I would think the only way the brewers would do that is if the vet had a low salary or if the other club picked up a good portion of it. or if the tea m accepted a guy like mench or graffy as part of the deal.
  18. I'd like to trade for weathers, but i see a glaring need for a crafty lefty. that's why i suggest we should think about trading for Guardado. he's about 1-2 weeks away from returning. The Reds already have Stanton. if you take away his first half stats with Seattle last year, he has looked great for the past 7 years. he's got good control, and has had good success in pitching in several hitters parks.
  19. i realize most teams shy away from Scott boras draft prospects. But i thought the brewers have dealt with him in the past on a pretty reasonable basis. I'm curious, have the brewers ever drafted and signed a scott boras client? or have they just dealt with him with players who were already at the major league level?
  20. I doubt the reds would ask for much. they would be more interested in lowering their payroll. However, as i said earlier, griffey and Dunn are gate attractions. So I doubt the reds would trade griffey. Every team needs a gate attraction and somebody to put on the cover of programs and the back of jerseys.
  21. they claimed last night that cordero will be the set-up man to their new closer- the mighty rausch. gee, he goes on a berevement leave and loses his job. has this ever happened to any of you? you go attend your father's funeral and come back to find you were replaced?
  22. the problem with signing a guy like bell or Castillo is that it would take 1-3 weeks for them to get into baseball shape A guy like Randa can't just be signed and expected to be able to play tommorow. if the brewers really believe they need a third baseman, then they are better off trading for one. there might be a few available. i doubt many teams have given up on the season yet. The pirates' Castilla wants to be traded. he ca n play third, but he will be very unhappy once braun arrives. There is this 30+ minor league third baseman who plays for oakland's AAA team. I think his name is Dave mc clain. he has a lot of power. But as i said, he's over 30 and looks like he's a AAA fixture. A question i ask- how bad was Corey Hart at third? I realize braun is injured, but he would be ready sooner than a free agant signee would be who hasn't played any ball this year. The question that should be asked is are teh brewers looking for a third baseman for the remainder of the year? or the remainder of this month? Will braun be promoted in june? or as a late September call up? When do the brewers want to start his clock ticking? the answer to that goes a long way to the player the brewers would pursue. i wanted the brewers to go after Nomar as a third baseman and super sub. I still do. Nomar couls start at third and pla y unti l brau n arrives. he could then play first. short and third as a veteran utility player. I highly doubt Nomar wants to be a utility player just yet. Houston's loretta would also have been a good signing. Cincy sent Encarcion back to AAA. Cantu is lousy defensively, but he is available. I'm just thinking of guys who may be available as part of a trade. I still think the best option is braun. it would be nice if councell and graffy would step up and accept the challenge and hold the fort.
  23. speaking of rebeling , brian went out of his way to get rid of trolls from ESPN by creating his own site. if brian had just contacted ESPN and became an ESPN moderator, and banned several ESPN posters, this site might never have been created. it's human nature to rebel and not follow orders or suggestions from those in charge. how many times do you talk in class after your teachers say NO TALKING? You may respect and love your teacher, but you are still going to talk. and some of us like to talk out of turn. we know it annoys the heck out of our teacher, but we still do it out of our affection for that teacher and also for the attention we receive in doing so. Evven when we know what's right, and the person isn't asking for much, we still rebel. My wife told me that 6 boxes of girl scout cookies was plenty. So i went out and secretly bought 10 more boxes and hid them. I'm eating a thin mint as i type and have several boxes secretly tucked away. Unless it's a thin mint, when you try to force something down a person's throat, they will resist Should i insert the giving the dog his medicine analogy? lambau leap may be good for us, but that doesn't mean we want it. those thin mints sure go fast especially when i don't have to share them.
  24. i think what people hate is lack of information. people would be ok with his injury if his team released some factual information about the injury with a time table for return. the day-to-day excuse gets old especially when we've heard it so many times used for many very serious injuries. the lack of information provided tends to make people believe there is a cover up.
  25. wouldn't bringing up Braun from AAA be easier than all of those suggestions?
