  1. taguchi is a pretty good ballplayer to have on your bench. 309 AB is too much for him on a good team.
  2. I get the astros on my local foxsports channel. seems like a nutjob to me. not that nutjobs can't be solid baseball players.
  3. milledge was the third-best OF prospect on the Mets. And he does nasty rap. Zero cost to the Mets, assuming they are right about their assessment of his ability compared to their other prospects.
  4. I'm all for a trade where you clearly are getting the most value in return, so...maybe. I would have concerns about scott, since he's a nutjob. not an elijah dukes type of nutjob, but a "posse commitatus" [sp?] type of survivalist- run away to the wilderness with an 18-wheeler-full of guns-type of nutjob.
  5. You don't "reserve" a player you think is better than a starter, just to give you a stronger bench. that would be grossly unwise. I assume your talking about Joe Dillon. I dont want Dillon as a part of a platoon. I think he is too valuble as a body who can move around the diamond giving players valuble days off. I am not discounting what Dillon does, I just simply think that Joe Dillon the platoon guy is more valuble than Joe Dillon your every day player. I also think that players like him off the bench late in the ballgame are priceless.
  6. Wow I'd seriously consider putting up one of our young hitters if they offered a package like that. Three decent players for a star is seldom a great idea, unless that star is about to walk. Loney, Billingsly and Kemp really haven't proven they can be more than decent, long term.
  7. marmol was used like he was because management didn't think he had the experience/makeup to be a closer yet. It wasn't because he was used in the most-critical positions. If the brewers had a guy like him in the pen, it would place a lower premium on tieing up a closer with a big contract.
  8. turnbow hasn't given up a run in his last 5 games!
  9. with a good manager, the losing streaks are short and the same mistakes are seldom repeated.
  10. I believe he started as a 1b.
  11. Counsell would be a decent choice at #2, since he still gets on base fairly well. If weeks comes back and bats leadoff, Hart could bat #2; he doesn't SO that much. I really wish Hall was still a super sub. If we added an OF, Hall could have filled in for weeks, hardy, could have played 3b earlier in the year, and played OF.
  12. I have a specially-trained service dog. He is trained to point whenever he sees an unattached woman that isn't crazy..... I'm still waiting for him to point the first time. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  13. Brad played 3b last night.
  14. counsell signed a two year contract, so he will be back next year. I'm guessing they let a few prospects slug it out for graffy's spot next year. I'm not going to mention the trades in this thread, because either I wouldn't do them or I don't think the other team would do them. God Bless Melvin is th GM.
  15. crabbe can play OF, too.
  16. well, he raked in spring training. got sent down and did squat. then he's been raking again for some time. Looks like AAA next year. Don't know what happens to Crabbe next season. Maybe he replaces Graffy.
  17. my understanding was that the heat affected Suppan and that's why he was pulled.
  18. mental illness is an injury. you could claim post traumatic stress disorder, seriously, if it seriously affected wise. of course, then you'd have to get him to see a shrink.
  19. why wouldn't it have been villy he ranted to? Of course, I think ned has been using him too much this year, so he would share in culpability.
  20. mass, I believe he has at least one option left, so if he wouldn't break camp in the spring, couldn't he be sent down? this would give the team one more year to defer a final decision.
  21. parra's innings were not "mop up" innings. the game was close when he came in, and stayed pretty close.
  22. IE did, which is what I'm on now. (broadened thread title --1992)
  23. He would play in LF with LaPorta in 2009, maybe get a callup in 2008. Jenkins will be gone. Gross may well be gone. Nix will be gone. Gwynn will not be a corner OF. Back to BillScottCanRake: You certainly can add a guy to the 40 man roster without putting him on the 25 man roster. They did that with Dillon earlier in the summer. Looking at the 40 man now, there are 14 guys that could drop off at the end of the season, either because they will be free agents, or because they don't have much value. I do think I'm right that guys on the 40 man do NOT become minor league FA.
  24. I didn't mean to assert that Nelson would be helping the brewers anytime soon (not before a 2008 callup). Just that: 1) he's not old; 2) he's getting better; 3) he's a LH-power-hitting OF, which you might also claim for Jenkins, Gross, and Nix, but is younger than them all, and there might be a need for Nelson in 2009, if not sooner; 4) He's performing better than Katin in a higher league, and is the same age and type of player, but Katin is claimed to still be a prospect . Also, "butcher" seems unwarranted. He's never made a ton of errors, he actually had 17 OF assists one year. He can't be ungodly slow since he has 6 steals this season. Granted, there is more to defense than that, but still, butcher? I guess he needs to hit .333 the rest of the way with 10-15 HR to convince folks. It's possible.
  25. probably not; being old stinks. he did develop a cut fastball as another pitch and that's improved his performance considerably. I'd view him as a guy that could bounce back and forth between the majors and AAA for a few years without causing a panic attack in the fans each time he enters the game in the majors. It would be a nice story if he had a ML career, but you don't want too many "nice stories" on your ML roster. They'll move someone currently on the 40 man up after the minor league playoffs are over. Could be McClung.
