  1. I don't care to argue about the Giants. It was just an example. Take it or leave it, but buffoon's don't go to the playoffs year after year. Me saying he's NOT a complete idiots also doesn't mean that I think he's the "model" GM, or the "model franchise". As for the Twins, what about Morneau? I don't really mean to nitpick about a players SLG pct, moreover the point that I find to be ridiculous that the Twins tell people to not hit for power. This all based on the fact that one player made a comment about a team that non-tendered him. Do you think that rather than the Twins being the dumbest organization of all time(which they'd have to be to tell their players to "not drive the ball" he was either using hyperbole, or he was just straight up pissed they let him go?
  2. He hit a breaking ball of his back foot. I mean, what more do you expect? He put a ball out that very, very few others would have a chance to hit out. Anyway, looks like he's losing some weight!
  3. So did I, and so do we. We've got money to spend. We've got more money than I think most are led to believe. Anyway.....I think this says that we've still got a chance. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/standings?date=20070531
  4. I think the combination of being 31 and never having pitched in the big leagues, and having very, very average(to be generous) stuff would lead to your answer. There are dozens of guys who can get AAA hitters out because they know hot to pitch, but aren't going to get big league hitters out. When you throw 85 MPH, how can you ever get people out on the days when you don't have your "good" stuff? Given the choice between the guy who throws 95 and has control issues and the guy who throws 85 with no control issues, I'll still take the 95 because at least he might figure it out. You can't "figure out" decent velocity and if you can't throw the ball hard enough to make them respect your fastball, what good are your secondary pitches going to do?
  5. Someone should tell Davey that this is the case. On Brewers live tonight he answered that it "definitely" does help the OBP because he reached base. The two kinda laughed...not really sure at what, Craig may have known that he was wrong, but didn't say anything.
  6. I tend to give Weeks a break a little bit(the DP play really annoys me though he seems to be improving) because he gets to some balls behind 2nd that I don't think many 2nd basemen would get to. Hell, he also at least knocks down quite a few going the other way. He does seem as though he times the line drives that he has to jump for pretty poorly though. So that's one of those "what I see" plays that isn't ever going to show up in any defensive metric that is a knock against Rickie.
  7. Yea, but at least the Seth McClung in this analogy is a girl who you could see being pretty good looking if she dropped about 30 pounds.
  8. So does Turnbow, but neither has good enough command that they should be given anything besides mop up innings. So what, we throw our hands up in the air and just give up? I'm serious because who are our other options? And honestly, I get that we want to keep the posts short by not throwing in the whole quote, but I hate this because it comes off as me being some naive idiots who thinks that he's GOING to be really good because he's got good stuff. I stated, and I made a point to state in my post several times that if he does become a good pitcher, it's going to be going against what he's shown most of his career thus far, but the thing that he gives us that Turnbow also gave us is the possibility of something good. I'd take that possibility over the absolute doom that lies with the other options. I suppose I also could have pointed out that by bringing up Turnbow, you prove my point very clearly. For one season Turnbow found a way to be great. I don't see how we have a chance unless someone else pulls a season like that out of their rear and McClung is one of the guys who at least MAY be able to do that. I don't know though if I should start ever post about McClung by saying that he's had poor control because that's what everyone keeps saying even well after it's been conceded that he's had poor control thus far in his career.
  9. One comment taken without the context is not quite enough for me to say the Twins tell their hitters not to drive the ball. What then could you possibly say for Morneau and Cuddyer? Do they not listen to their management? As for the Giants, you can't win with one player. The Giants were a contender year in and year out. They're awful now. That doesn't make their GM a joke. Obviously the deal for AJ was a bad one, but I don't believe anyone, not even the Twins had any idea what Liriano would turn into, or Nathan. Are the Brewers are terrible organization because of their trade last year with the D-backs? By the way, where did I ever say, suggest or insinuate that the Giants were a "model organization"? Perhaps the problem is that you're taking what I say and then adding to it. I simply said they're not the joke that many here would have you believe. They've made some awful moves as of late. Nobody's going to argue with that. Why the hell they'd give Zito that type of deal is beyond me, and that's got nothing to do with how he's pitched this year, that just magnifies it. Everyone knew he was going to get a huge deal, but from what I've heard, they added about 30 million more than anyone else would have. But again, they were a playoff team year in and year out. Sabean's not some buffoon running a team.
  10. Yea, Burnett's got really good stuff, but if the question is still on who would we get from Prince, then I think you've got to talk about Burnett and a young starter. In fact, as a destination for Prince, the Blue Jay's may be the perfect team. They've got a lot of good young pitching and could be one of the few teams that could give up a good, good young starter and really improve by adding Prince. They've got very little offense. Hell, Matt Stairs is their DH. Marcum, McGowan, someone of that nature, and then maybe a prospect on each side for a guy like Arencibia?
  11. That he has really good stuff and he's pitched really well most of the year. You have to look at the rest of my post to put it in context, but we don't have the Blue Jays staff where we're talking about McClung taking someone's spot. We're desperately searching for someone who can be very good. We're all willing to throw McClung under the bus in favor of who? Weaver? A near 7 ERA in AAA. Villanueva? Ok, maybe, but still a near 7 ERA as a starter. Who else? So again, what's encouraging is that he's thrown the ball really well in terms of velocity and movement, he's been far more efficient as a starter, he's got fantastic stuff, and.....we don't have anything better, so I'm simply hoping that he's going to be really good to give this team SOME chance.
  12. How do you know? If they were deceiving you...you'd be deceived. Nobody who's deceived knows they're deceived otherwise they wouldn't be deceived, right? But basically you're saying that my eyes are deceiving me. Are you that confident you have better eyesight? I'm just saying that I need to see definitive proof. And even that will leave a lot of room for interpretation.
  13. Sure, he may be(I certainly won't say probably), but at this point, he at least offers the promise of being something more than a back of the rotation type guy. He at least has that chance that you could catch lightning in a bottle with him and he could put it together and go on a nice run. Hell, he's got better stuff than any other option right now. He has the stuff, just pure stuff to be a very good pitcher. He's thrown pretty well thus far this year. So at least with him, you MIGHT find a guy who really improves before your eyes. He's shown signs. I brought up the idea of starting McClung about 2 weeks ago for that very reason. We need to replace Gallardo's loss, and while McClung won't do that, he can help make up for it. He may also be what Derrick Turnbow was last year as a starter. I don't know. I do know without someone exceeding what they reasonably should do based on past performance, we're dead in the water. And as such, I'd like to see McClung get a couple more starts.
  14. Nobody's questioning the legality of the situation. Nobody doubts that they have the right to make offensive shirts. Nobody doubts that Neo-Nazi's have the right to congregate and spread their vile hate. You're absolutely right, it IS a free country and that's what makes it great. I guess it comes off as you defending it as being "alright". Frankly, I'd much rather this be allowed in our society than not regardless of how distasteful I find it, but that doesn't mean that I don't think it's really offensive.
  15. Why do you think the Brewers are leaning toward a bat? I'm just curious because looking at the Brewers needs...a terrible way to draft in and of itself, but something that must be considered, the Brewers appear to have a desperate need for a close that they can develop. Of course we've got Aguilar, Pena and company(actually...that's it really) but throw Fields into that mix and you've got three fantastic arms for the long term future. Of course you seem to be one of the few guys who actually has some actual inside knowledge, or at the very least connections that may give you some greater insight. So, is this just your guess, or is that the "vibe" the Brewers are giving off?
  16. I'm not sure what point you're making here. Are you saying that because some people find it funny, then it's alright? I can honestly only hope that's not what you're saying, but until you clear it up, I'm not sure what to think. By the way, sorry, I just had a REAL big glass of water...you know, the "estrogen" water.
  17. Yea, I mis-worded that. Say the runner gets on base with an IF hit, the fielder throws the ball away and he reaches on a hit, moves up on an error and then the HR comes. Then it's still 2 ER's even with the 1 out error.
  18. Yea, I'd like to see two pictures in which he's got the same basic pose so that they're not mis-leading. I thought when I said same pose that it was just taken for granted that it's going to be misleading if you not only have a different pose, but you have one picture about 4 times bigger than the other. I don't think Prince is any bigger than last year. He looks almost identical. But people are going to look for the reason and because Prince is a big guy to begin with, it's automatically going to be his size.
  19. He can't, except for that he has. He's been much worse than McClung...in AAA. Seriously? McClung gives up a 3-run HR yesterday and now he's garbage and we should start a guy in AAA with an ERA of almost 7?
  20. Amazing how few share this perspective. It's like the Rockies, the Phillies, the CUBS, all those teams from last year who started out slow and then played very well are long forgotten. Without Gallardo we're not in good shape, but we're also not out of it.
  21. Do you think then maybe the problem lies with what was acceptable back then rather than what's not acceptable now? That's just flat out mocking a giant segment of our population, and we're acting like women? I'll try to hold back here so as to not get a strike, but I find that to be outrageous.
  22. Yea, I'd like to see two pictures in which he's got the same basic pose so that they're not mis-leading. I don't think he's any bigger this year, and I certainly don't think he's anywhere near 50 pounds bigger. It's funny, some people will tell you how much weight he's lost, some will tell you that he's gained some. The 50 pounds I've heard here though is the first time I've heard a number like that.
  23. I don't think a career is lost with a 1/3rd of a season playing below average. It's not like Prince is having a Ortiz like start to the season(Ortiz after about 3 weeks). He's just not quite hitting on all cylinders. I'll bet just about anything he goes on a 10 HR in 15 games type binge and his numbers will look a lot more respectable. Hell, .270/.370 really ain't that bad. Throw in the power and you expect more out of Prince, but be patient. You'll likely get a whole lot more out of Prince.
  24. Not always. You kinda touched on it in your next paragraph, but if a guy reaches on an error with 1 out and the next guy hits a HR, that's 2 ER's.
  25. Telling someone to lose is not the same thing as telling someone to go the other way instead of trying to pull the ball. It's also not even close to the same as telling someone "not to hit for power". So it's not that they ever told him anything like don't drive the ball, it's that they placed an emphasis on going the other way like every single other big league team does. In fact, if you'll recall when he was recently struggling, the reason given by the Red Sox was that he wasn't hitting the ball the other way. What's the problem right now, the only problem in Matt LaPorta's swing? That he's not using the whole field and going the other way. I wish I knew why that means "don't hit for power" to some people, but there answers I fear I'll never get. Like I said, it's almost "cool" for everyone to jump on board and be overly critical of some of these organizations that have long records of success(Twins and Giants to name a few).
