  1. I'm sure there's probably a Gamel thread somewhere, but has anyone heard any rumblings about us just bringing him up this year? I know there are the defensive questions, but "he's a professional hitter" who may just work out like Braun. Give him a month at AAA (which will also let us test the waters with the Hall/Branyan platoon) and just call him up after the all-star break if we don't have a better option.
  2. I agree that he looked pretty good tonight and I really hope it continues. However, I'm not very optimistic. He certainly had a couple of good years in 2004 and 2005, but his stats are not trending in the right direction. 2004 through 2008 stats: WHIP: 1.18, 1.32, 1.56, 1.50, 2.13 K/BB: 2.53, 2.47, 1.27, 1.51, .67 K/9 IP: 6.72, 6.44, 5.11, 5.15, 4.26 H/IP: .89, 1.04, 1.11, 1.12, 1.42 ERA: 2.38, 3.43, 4.47, 5.15, 6.39
  3. That wouldn't be a bad pickup if he slips past Detroit (and others). Seems to have bounced back nicely from recent years.
  4. I tend to agree with the arrogant and disrespectful argument. He believes all fans are morons who don't understand how difficult the game is to manage. I have no idea what Ned's IQ is, but I don't believe building rockets was ever on his resume. But I'll also add stubborn to the list of bad qualities. In reading the article about Hardy today, it seemed like Yost could try something different rather than being stubborn about this pitcher hit's 8th idea. Why not put someone who has patience and discipline in front of the pitcher (i.e. Kendall)? If the argument is that Kendall is "like having a second lead-off hitter", then bat him 1st or 2nd with Weeks! Why wait 8 batters every game to get a second lead-off hitter to the plate?! And I understand there are plenty of arguments for leaving it the way it is, but why not at least try Hardy, Kendall, Pitcher to see if it shakes Hardy loose?? Because he's stubborn and this was HIS IDEA! And it's easy for moronic fans to sit back and suggest such foolishness. Such foolishness.....like batting the pitcher ninth....which has served managers pretty well for oh, about 100+ years!
  5. I haven't seen anything rumored on these two, but they could be reasonable options (lefty starters!). Estes has done pretty well in 3 starts for the Padres, who are going nowhere fast. And the Bucs aren't going to do much this year either - they may want to cash in on Burnett while he's not injured. Both could be low cost options to try out in the rotation while CV and MP get their stuff straightened out at Nashville.
  6. MLB Trade Rumors mentioned that Ken Rosenthal speculates that the Indians should trade Paul Byrd and that the Brewers, Braves and Astros would likely show interest. Anyone else see anything about Byrd? And what do you think? I guess it all depends on what we'd need to give up.
  7. Was he DFA'd? I read an article that mentions the Rockies may still have mild interest in Tavarez "when he becomes a free agent today". Maybe we could take a flyer on him after all. I'd be much more comfortable with this vs giving up anything for him.
  8. quick like a band aid, RIGHT OFF .... Or like getting Ted's zipper unstuck in "There's Something About Mary".... We've Got A Bleeder!!
  9. Here's a different question - assuming he's as good as gone sometime in the near future, what do you think it would take for DM NOT to replace him? Short winning streak? Players like Weeks and Hall to start hitting? A few quality starts in a row? 8 of 10 wins? Other? For example, if they go in and sweep the Pirates, does that take the heat off? Would they need to sweep two series in a row?
  10. I was utterly SHOCKED to see that this thread had fallen to the second page in the ML forum! No one in the last 18 hours wanted to rip Yost? I guess everyone was so excited about that blog speculation that they figured they could ease up. SO, I just had to post something to move this back on up the list. Seriously, I'm not a huge Yost fan (I think I've been pretty consistent through my postings), but I just don't see a viable option right now. Presumably, Simba would leave before taking over for his close friend. That leaves some managers with limited or no experience or someone like Buck Showalter who could make things worse. I'm thinking we're going to end up riding the Yost horse the rest of this season. I think DM is probably also getting a bit concerned that the organization has over-valued some of the young players (e.g. Hall and Weeks).
  11. Someone may have pointed this out in a later post, but if I remember right MA's son is attending an east coast university (Columbia in NYC maybe) so it's possible he just flew out to meet his son for the game (his son was sitting with him I noticed and I believe it was just the two of them in front of Melvin).
  12. Damn - you got me by 30 minutes! Exactly what I was going to suggest. Seriously, there aren't really any viable candidates, so I'd be shocked if Yost didn't make it through the whole season.
  13. Under, probably big-time. It will just be interesting to see what DM does come the trade deadline. Figure Sheets gone for sure. Suppan too if he can get decent value back??
  14. Well, you just have to love the strike em out throw em out play...
  15. Was that off the wall for Hart? It almost looked out on Gameday!
  16. Got out of it with only 2 runs and only 25 pitches! Just wonderful....
  17. Say it ain't so! "Brewers throw their hat in the ring for Tavarez".... http://mvn.com/mlb-redsox/2008/05/15/brewers-make-bid-for-tavarez-farewell-aardsma-and-lopez/ Please tell me this is just someone making up rumors.
  18. Such excitement .....a nail biting ending.....and an 8-3 win! To quote Rock, "my goodness"
  19. I'm going to do one better than the dude in the stands on Saturday if we lose this thing - I'll go puke THREE times. I can't believe this is happening.....
  20. Can you imagine what Stetter is thinking right now? Geez. 4 walks. Thanks for correcting yourself, ROCK!
  21. Schroeder better not head to "are you smarter than a 5th grader" anytime soon. "Walk this one here and the tying run will be coming to the plate". HUH?
