  1. I love that the NFL has a salary cap and Im a Jets fan. I enjoy a league where good coaching and smart drafting helps you win not just who has the most money to spend. Also in the NFL every team keeps its franchise players and thats what most fans care about the most. If we had a cap in baseball every team would have a chance. Right now the Brewers just cant compete year in and year out against teams like the yankees and red sox who have way more money.
  2. Rickie Weeks worked very hard at becoming a good second baseman and now that he is one he shouldnt be moved.
  3. Is Melvin gonna excuse the fact that Macha is aloof and the players dont like him? The guy has a major personality flaw and a year in the national league wont fix that. You also have to question Melvin if he believes that Macha is the right man to handle young players. The guy just seems spooked at the thought of giving a young player the chance to play. If Melvin brings back this same staff he deserves his fate which will be another lackluster finish next year and a new GM. Dan O'Dowd is a free agent after the season and the owner would be smart to hire him away from Colorado.
  4. Melvin has spoken too much about how losing Bush and Suppan to injury has killed this teams chances. Does he not yet recognize that Suppan is awful and Bush is avaerage at best. He has been acting like we lost Lincecum and Cain to injury and not the guys that we did lose. He has proven time and time again in Texas as well as Milwaukee that he is incapable of putting together a top flight pitching staff. As for Looper I truly believe that if he was 7-13 instead of 13-7 with the same statistics we wouldnt even be discussing his possible return.
  5. Melvin needs to start thinking more about quality of innings along with quantity. Its about time we stopped spending money on garbage and spent it on good players. Assuming Looper comes back the Brewers will be spending more than 25 million on Looper, Suppan, and Hall. That is poor money management anyway you slice it. My theory has always been spend on quality or not at all. Paying the likes of Suppan and Looper big money is insane.
  6. The funniest thing about all of this is that if Looper was 7-13 instead of 13-7 with the same statistics there would be no discussion about bringing him back. So Melvin is essentially going to pick up the option because of strong run support. If that doesnt scream incompetence I dont know what does.
  7. Melvin sounds like Macha when he mentions that Looper has 13 wins. So now he is taking W/L record as something in Loopers favor. I was on the fence regarding Melvin but the last few weeks have clinched it for me, its time to let him go. Dan O'Dowd has a contract that runs out after this season and he has done great things in Colorado with a lower payroll than we have. If Mark A were smart he would spend money on O'Dowd because Melvins time needs to end.
  8. More proof that Macha is a dope. He is judging Gamel on pinch hitting appearances and batting practice. What a joke.
  9. The Brewers better not consider giving Pineiro 4 yrs 60 million. Can we please stay away from the St Louis rejects who only have one good year.
  10. The only flake is Macha and that is why the players dont like playing for him.
  11. I really hope that Heyman is wrong and Melvin dumps Macha.
  12. Tbadder, I think its just a case of Macha not liking young players. He has had it in for Gamel ever since he came up when he claimed he was in a "zim zam". I still cant understand how the GM calling up your best prospect is a "zim zam" but Macha clearly prefers older players. This is the same manager who said he wants to see what Corey Pattersons got a few weeks back. This guy is as clueless as it gets but at this point I blame Melvin for allowing this to go on for as long as it has.
  13. He should make a trade for viable starter and not settle for third rate soft tossers with no upside.
  14. We can keep Cameron and still get a top flight starter by dumping Kendall, Looper and Weathers. This would say us well over 10 million dollars. The problem is that Melvin would probably use that money on Doug Davis or Jarrod Washburn and that is just not good enough.
  15. Macha come up with the lamest excuses for not playing Gamel. I dont want to hear anymore about how Gamel is struggling in BP. I somewhat understand McGehee playing over Mat because he is trying for the ROY but Counsell over Gamel at this point in the season makes no sense whatsoever.
  16. Why should we pay Kendall 3 million when he is the worst offensive player in baseball? As far as Im concerned we cant get any less production from the C position than we have gotten from Kendall this year. Time to turn the page but its a near guarantee that Kendall will be back playing as much as he has the last two years.
  17. At this point I want Macha and Melvin fired. This organization just has no plan. How does your best prospect continue to sit on the bench in meaningless September games in favor of Counsell. From the moment gamel was first called up to sit on the bench this organization has just done everything possible to stunt his progress. Enough is enough. Time to get rid of the clueless manager that the players hate and the GM that has allowed this to go on.
  18. I like the idea of Schneider. He is very good defensively and while not a good hitter he is better than Kendall. This whole topic is moot anyway because Melvin is bringing Kendall back.
  19. One goal I forgot; Melvin must not put Macha into any more "zim zams".
  20. He has never been given the chance to be the answer. My guess is that he would probably be a decent stopgap until LuCroy or Salome are ready to play every day. I do believe that Rivera is a far better option than Kendall who is terrible.
  21. The number one goal should be to see if Corey Patterson has what it takes to be the CF of the future. We also need to see if Burns and Narveson are good enough to join the rotation. I also would like to see Kendall continue to play every day because we need his power bat in the lineup. Lastly we need to make sure that Gamel doesnt start any games because he clearly isnt veteran enough to play at this level.
  22. Macha commented that Melvin put him in a "zim zam" when Gamel was first called up meaning that he didnt want him then. He has never given Mat the chance to play at all. Even now in meaningless september games Counsell is getting to play while Gamel cant get off the bench. How about the game against St Louis when we were down 5-0 and Gamel was sent up to pinch hit. Once Larussa brought in the lefty to face Mat he was replaced by Jason Bourgeois who cant hit lefties or righties. Macha also commented that it would be nice to see some of the bench players get at bats and he specifically named guys such as Corey Patterson without mentioning Gamel. Im sorry but this amount of evidence is hard to ignore without coming to the conclusion that Macha flat out doesnt like Gamel.
  23. Its about time we stop paying for mediocrity and worse. We are stuck with Suppan in the rotation because of his contract but we can upgrade on Looper. We cant possibly go into next season with this same rotation if we expect to contend.
  24. As long as Macha is managing the Brewers Gamel will not get a fair shake. I think it should be obvious by now that Macha just doesnt like the guy. Even in meaningless September games macha feels its appropriate to start Counsell and let Gamel rot on the bench. Get rid of Macha or Gamel will continue to have no shot of earning a starting spot with the team. Lets face it Macha wouldnt play any young players if he didnt absolutely have to. Melvin is probably forcing him to start Escobar a few times per week or macha would just start Counsell. This Gamel situation is exactly why macha should never be the manager of a young team.
  25. I think Mat Gamel's future with the Brewers lies entirely on the future of Ken Macha. If Macha is let go Gamel has a future with the team but if he is retained Gamel is as good as gone. It is obvious by now that Macha doesnt like Gamel and will not give him any chance at playing time. Even today when some of the backups are starting Macha had to start Counsell instead of Gamel. I feel bad for Mat because his whole season has been ruined by his time in Milwaukee where he never got a fair shake. Hopefully Macha is fired because if he isnt I doubt Gamel will be around.
