  1. We can sign a starting pitcher by letting Looper and kendall go. Thats 10 mil in savings right there. As long as we have bad startng pitching our dfense needs to be that much better. Ive seen enough of Gerut in CF to know that we cant afford that slip in defense from Cameron to him. Not to change the subject but if we keep Looper we are basically keeping our awful rotation intact. We need to do better and the money will be there by letting Looper and Kendall go. Unfortunately Kendall will be back and Looper probably will as well because of his win/loss record.
  2. Lopez is a luxury that this team just cant afford. i would offer arbitration because I dont think he would accept it but if he does I would trade him. There is a reason why he has been dumped time and time again; his attitude over the long haul just isnt very good.
  3. Its not ok by me. I dont like his defense one bit. With a lousy pitching staff this team cant afford a below average defensive center fielder. Once Cameron is gone people will realize just how great he is defensively.
  4. To me once you are out of it the mindset of the organization needs to change. Instead of playing Counsell, Catalannatto and Kendall we need to be seeing Gamel and Escobar. This organization just doesnt seem to have a plan and that is extremely troublesome.
  5. Invader, I would see some truth in this if Macha wasnt insistent on sitting the young guys all year. His comment about Melvin putting him in a "zim zam" when Gamel was recalled tells me all I need to know about Macha as a manager. He just doesnt like playing the young guys and that is the biggest reason why he shouldnt be managing this team. Melvin as the GM should be forcing Macha to play Gamel and Escobar at this point. There is nothing to be gained by winning 80 versus 75.
  6. I am very concerned about several pitchers on the staff most notably Gallardo who has thrown way too many pitches this season. Coffey has definitely been overused as well and I wouldnt mind seeing a few guys given the rest of the year off. September baseball for teams out of contention is a time to rest overworked pitchers and to see the young prospects in action. In both of these cases Macha has failed miserably. Melvin has to take some blame as well since he has the power to tell his manager who to rest and who to play.
  7. Macha has proven himself to be a complete incompetent. He hates playing young guys and would even play a scrub like Patterson more than a guy like Gamel. Its obvious that he would love a team consisting entirely of veterans and that is just the wrong type of guy for this organization. Its also obvious that the players dont like him so I see no point in bringing him back. On another note I cant say I trust Melvin to hire the right replacement. Between hiring Yost and Macha as well as his interviewing only three candidates in Macha, Brenly, and Randolph who were all terrible choices I just dont trust Melvin to hire the right guy to replace Macha. It might be time to replace Melvin and Macha and start over with new minds and ideas. I believe Dan O'Dowd's contract runs out after the season and I would make a big push to hire him.
  8. Its September 15 and we are out of it yet macha continues to ride Gallardo into the ground.
  9. Its very important to get Catalanatto at bats in these meaningless September games.
  10. endaround, the point I was trying to make was that the Brewers wont be able to keep Fielder around once he is eligible for free agency. That is a major problem with baseball. Im sure that most of you are Packers fans. Well imagine if Favre was able to leave after 6 years in the league. Without a cap dont you think a team like the Jets or Giants would have offered Favre way more than Green Bay could have ever been able to pay? Wouldnt a system like that make you enjoy football less than you do? I think its a great thing that Green Bay can compete on equal footing with Chicago and as a Jets fan I enjoy the fact that we have to win by solid drafting and great coaching. I dont want to buy championships and I hate watching the Yankees buying championships. Too many teams in baseball have little to no chance of ever winning a championship and that is sad. The NFL is the best league in the world because every team has the chance to win each year.
  11. Buster Olney speculates today that Fielder will be traded to the Red Sox. This is just another example of how the media treats teams like the Brewers as feeder teams for the Red Sox and yankees. Just more proof that we dont have competitive balance and wont until we have a salary cap. I happen to root for several big market teams in leagues with a salary cap and I prefer it that way. I like the fact that the New York Jets have to draft well and coach well in order to win and cant just buy every player. Sports is supposed to be fair competition where the fans of every franchise feel like they have the chance to compete year in and year out. I feel that way in the NFL and NHL but I feel like the Brewers have to do everything perfectly in order to win a championship. Look at Tampa Bay. They have drafted brilliantly and did make one world series appearance that odds are wont happen again because they have a payroll 25% of the yankees. The system in baseball sucks and will continue to do so until we have a salary cap. The small and medium markets need to band together and shut down the game if necessary in order to gain a cap. The cap should have a floor as well so teams are forced to act in a competitive way.
  12. I like Acta but my favorite is still Bobby Valentine. At any rate I want macha gone and I want no part of Randolph or Sveum.
  13. I never thought I would say this but Macha is far worse than Yost. Macha is ill equipped to handle young players and the Brewers will always need young players to contribute in a big way.
  14. Somehow Macha feels its more important to get at bats for the likes of Corey Patterson and Cattalanato than Gamel. He absolutely has to go as soon as the season ends and if Melvin feels the need to keep him he can go as well.
  15. I would give them McGehee and Hart for Jurrjens but not Gamel.
  16. AJAY, I agree with you 100% and you have completely summarized how I have felt for years as well.
  17. All the proof you need that Kendall is in the plans for next season is that he continues to play every day in September.
  18. Another great example of why Macha needs to be fired; its sept 9th and we are hopelessly out of the race yet Macha thinks Counsell should start at third base while Gamel rides the bench. This was bad enough when it was happening in june but why would Counsell start over Gamel in a meaningless september game.
  19. Macha needs to go as soon as the season ends. We need a manager that values young players and doesnt consider playing Gamel as a "zim zam". His handling of Gamel and Escobar as well as his abuse of Gallardo are reasons for him not to come back. Bobby Valentine is the man for the job and I hope Melvin is smart enough to make this happen. We need to stay away from Willie and Dale since I dont see them as much of an upgrade from Macha.
  20. Melvin loves the guy and he probably doesnt think there are better alternatives (not true but Melvin will feel differently).
  21. In my opinion if Melvin comes back Kendall will be back next season in the same role he has now. The one constant in the lineup other than Braun and Fielder is that Kendall has continued to play nearly every day. With LuCroy being a year away and the team having no confidence in Rivera I will be shocked if Kendall isnt back playing at least 5 days per week.
  22. The only guy in this rotation that has surprised me has been Parra. I expected Manny to be a lot better than he was but I am not at all surprised that Looper and Suppan pitched like garbage. As for Bush the injury definitely hurt the team but lets face it he is just an average pitcher. I said before the season that this rotation was not nearly good enough to contend with and unfortunately I was proven right.
  23. This organization is looking dumber by the day.
  24. I blame Melvin for this whole JJ situation for this reason, it was obvious that a decision had to be made between JJ and Escobar before this season and Melvin never made that decision. JJ has been looking over his back for Escobar and has not been able to focus due to this. Melvin needed to sign JJ long term and trade Escobar or trade JJ before the season. Now we have Hardy knowing he is a goner and that cant help his play. Therefore my only logical conclusion is to blame Melvin for JJ having a bad year.
  25. This organization has its priorities completely screwed up. They are way too interested in finishing the season strong than doing whats right for the future. Macha is managing for his job and he really hates young players. He refused to play Gamel and now he has another excuse not to play Escobar. Macha is absolutely the wrong type of manager with regards to young players; he just wont play them. This season is so disappointing in so many ways. I really believe we are better off tanking in September so there is no excuse to bring Macha back.
