  1. If 2010 looks like it will be similar to 2009, and if really feels that way, I don't see how keeping Prince around for another year would do anything other than sell a few more tickets. I am going to hate to see him go no matter when it happens, but it clearly is a "when" and not an "if." So why not sell high for a change, its been a while (Sexson). Melvin is likely to accept a bag of peanuts for Hardy, just got a bag of popcorn for Hall (whom he could have sold way high on), so he needs to hit on someone to keep this ship going long term. But, is the return value going to be out there? That is the biggest unexplained variable that will eventually work itself out.
  2. I would go even further and say Riske is done for good.
  3. I just noticed that 4 of the 6 division leaders have the highest payroll in their given division. The exceptions are the Cubs and Mets, and injuries have played a huge role there. Additionally, 4 of the 6 last place teams have the lowest payroll in their respective divisions. The competitive balance is money. If you have it and you spend it you are competitive.
  4. Hope not, we don't have tickets yet. Wish they would have done this on Saturday.
  5. Trading Braun would be organizational suicide.
  6. I am catching two in DC this weekend. Can't wait to see the fairly new Nationals Park? Can't even get to two pages on an IGT... my its gotten bad. Shut Gallardo down and put Narveson in the rotation. Make a run at a high draft pick.
  7. Thank you for all your time and good work. I like the report very much.
  8. A player who is drafted and does not sign with the club that selected him may be drafted again at a future year's draft, so long as the player is eligible for that year's draft. A club may not select a player again in a subsequent year, unless the player has consented to the re-selection. You are correct. No extra leverage as I previously suspected.
  9. Seeing how the deadline to sign Strasburg is today, I was thinking how the Nationals actually have leverage over Boras. Unless the Nationals blow it and keep winning games, they will have a lock on the #1 spot again next year. To which they can use as leverage and say, "take it or leave it, but we will be drafting him next year and the offer will go down."
  10. I see the three days of "rest" didn't do much for JJ Hardy's offense or defense. His stock has fallen further than Bank of America's. Maybe a new hitting philosophy would help him out, because its getting clearer he cannot sustain 20+ HR seasons without giving up his OBP. Doesn't help him much that he is slower than the tortoise from that famous story.
  11. 7th in OBP (soon to be 8th), and only 49 RBI's with more than half his AB's coming from the 5th spot in the order does not spell major production.
  12. Is it me, or does a hit and run with Prince at first and the club leader in K's at the plate a bad idea? Sorry Hardy, I am getting close to cementing my desire to not see you play SS for the Brewers anymore.
  13. Davis is viewing this as his last big contract and likely wants around 3 years $27-33 million to set himself up for life. If he is not already set up for life he has a poor money manager.
  14. Can AZ put Davis back on revocable waivers after having revoked him? No. While I assume nothing got done, we still are not sure.
  15. I am not sure Kendall pouts. He stews.
  16. Spot on IMO. I don't see the upside to Zona keeping him right now. I actually see a bit of a downside to them keeping him. The only reason I think it would be good for the Brewers would be to have an actual starting pitcher in the 4 or 5 spot. Then they only need one more to have an actual rotation for the first time since June.
  17. In Macha's defense, he was trying to stay away from the hotel beatings that will now ensue after sitting Kendall in back-to-back games. Sometimes you have to take one for the team.
  18. Please don't tell me you are one of those guys that complains when a major leaguer doesn't use two hands. You're right, i would rather see them miss/drop routine pop-ups than use two hands.
  19. I wonder then why Melvin thought it was a good idea to get Estrada from Zona.
  20. I'll bet $20 that Rivera still doesn't start again until Parra's next start. Any takers? What do we look like, suckers?
  21. A five run lead for the Brewer pitching staff? Might as well be a tie game.
  22. Haven't hit a home run yet this year? Feeling powerless against the long ball blues? Come on over to Miller Park in Milwaukee, WI. We can fix you up for little or no charge. Get homer happy in Milwaukee, WI. You'll be glad you did!
  23. So much for getting that ERA under 6 today. Hopefully he can pick up the win, but I am not even thinking of leaving for the bank to cash this win yet.
