  1. Ugly at-bat by Aoki.... the only RHB we have on the bench is... ugh... Izturis

  3. Not thrilled with Gonzalez hitting 6th. That should be Lucroy in the 6 spot.... Hopefully Alex will prove me wrong here

  5. Yeah, to say Wily Peralta seems like a AAAA pitcher is a poor choice of words. I certainly do not believe that projects to be a AAAA guy. I was looking at what his impact might be if we need to rely on him for extended starts in 2012. He's only 23 years old. He had a 1.287 WHIP and .3.46 ERA in AA last year, that to me doesn't scream "he's ready for MLB hitters" right now... there is no doubt he deserves to be a highly rated prospect, he's got great stuff... His WHIP in 2010 was even worse. He pitched very well in 5 starts in AAA last year but that was a small sample of just 31 innings. Hopefully he turns the corner this year even more I don't have a lot of faith in Rogers and Fiers. I think much higher of Bradley, Jungmann & Thornburg but they are each more than a year away The point I was trying to make is that our success in 2012 really depends a lot on whether Marcum can successfully pitch and stay healthy
  6. Disagree that Peralta is "clearly" ready. I hope he is, but so far he seems like a AAAA guy who struggles with location. Does he have the potential to overcome that? Absolutely. I don't trust any of Peralta, Fiers or Rogers to step up from AAA and be very good. Estrada is a legit #5 starter if needed but I'm concerned about Marcum's health and our lack of ability to cover for him if he falters or goes down. Wolf is a great #4 pitcher, as a #3 pitcher Wolf doesn't shine as compared to many other teams (Philadelphia, St Louis, San Francisco etc). Same with Narveson in terms of him as a #5 or a #4. I do think the Brewers will be a very good team. As far as St Louis goes, Freese is a real wildcard (no pun intended). Is he poised to become a superstar? Maybe. Carpenter being out will really hurt them though. And there is no replacing Pujols Gamel/Ramirez can likely duplicate Fielder/McGehee but you take Albert Pujols off of a wild-card team and that is a mega loss. Berkman will likely not be the same without Pujols in the lineup, Beltran is often injured, I just don't see the Cardinals being strong contenders without Freese emerging as a 35 HR 1.000 OPS, .400 OBP guy
  7. The (very) positive side of this is: that is the precise reason why Roenicke will be hesitant to have Izturis pinch-hit! Somewhat like only carrying 2 catchers and not pinch-hitting a catcher prior to the 9th inning....
  8. The danger is that Ramirez and Gonzalez will be worn out by August/September because they won't have gotten enough days off over the course of the season Are we actually going to see Izturis start about once a week? Craziness!
  9. So.... there'll never be a game where 2 of Weeks, Ramirez and Gonzalez are out? I wonder who the emergency SS is, or the emergency 2B? Braun? Gomez? I hope Roenicke realizes Ishikawa should never hit vs LHP (.288 career OBP vs LHP, .332 OBP vs RHP).... There must be some other move happening down the line. Izturis makes Yuniesky Betancourt look like Ernie Banks
  10. Here are some more Iglesias highlights That .285 OBP in AAA last year scares me, but he's got a Gold Glove caliber D and he's only 22....
  11. Jose Iglesias http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oM_RWcWUKvM&feature=related
  12. I think if a team wants to overpay for K-Rod, the Brewers should do it, but it'd have to one helluva overpay. I'd take Jose Iglesias for K-Rod in a split second. Despite his questionable bat, the kid has an incredible glove http://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=iglesi001jos It is not out the question for the Red Sox to trade Iglesias because they have Xander Bogaerts coming up after him... I'd actually like Xander even more.... http://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=bogaer001xan
  13. Agreed. The 2009 and 2010 Brewers are a good example of that. Lots of home runs, no playoffs.
  14. Hopefully we can sign Greinke and then the Dodgers can overpay for Hamels in the off-season Lincecum after the 2013 season will be the big fish to land, if he stays healthy
  15. This is an excellent post and I hope you don't mind me cutting parts of it out in order to save space in my "quote" My reply to this is that the Brewers front office are pros and had to have been planning ahead when they signed Ramirez, knowing that they were also going to make a serious effort to sign Greinke. If the Ramirez signing means that they cannot extend Greinke, then that proves that the Ramirez signing was extremely foolish and I really don't think that is the case....
  16. When comparing Cain & Greinke it is very tough to calculate (for me at least) how much defense and ballpark have aided Cain in that comparison. Greinke has the higher upside, I believe that sincerely. I do think the best chance the Brewers will have to sign Greinke is right now, because Greinke could be poised to have a fantastic season in 2012
  17. I'm struggling to think of a better #4 pitcher in all of MLB than Randy Wolf. There may be one, but Wolf is right on up there.
  18. Wish I could find the link, but I swear I read a quote from Greinke a few weeks ago or a month ago where he said he wouldn't hire an agent until there was an actual contract he was about to sign
