  1. Still no Villar. He's hitting .390 in the last 28 days. Injured? Did Craig Counsell fall and bump his head?
  2. Just one of those games really. Woodruff made a couple of mistakes with pitches and paid for it. Marte and McCutchen will do that.... Our offense is inconsistent They can bounce back from this
  3. I agree. It is a faulty approach. This might be an area where analytics fails. What works in terms of big picture (go for the HR) probably won't consistently work in big games or in the postseason without an incredible pitching staff I'll be somewhat fascinated to see the postseason results over the next few years because I suspect that teams that mix in high contact athletic players will win vs the 3TO teams.... We'll see
  4. Aguillar 2017 vs LHP: .307/.374/.523 Villar at 2B, Walker at 1B vs RHP Walker at 2B, Aguillar at 1B vs LHP Seems painfully obvious
  5. Villar in the 2nd Half: .288/.306/.415 Thames in the 2nd Half: .212/.294/.404
  6. I like Perez but that play needs to be made. It is too bad Phillips hasn't hit well enough for Counsell to have confidence in him, because he's a plus defensive player.
  7. It isn't. Fowler, Chapman & Ross are gone. Russell has been out. Other players are having subpar seasons. Zobrist looks done, the pitching isn't the same either
  8. Brewers need to step up and get Alex Cobb in the offseason as well as trade for whatever pitching that they can. Can't count on Nelson ever being the same again This injury is not only a disaster for 2017, but 2018 as well And I'm tired of people saying the Brewers don't have enough money to be players in free agency. That is ridiculous. Their payroll is around $50-$60 million right now. Spend the money! Like I give a what for whether Mark A is worth $300 million or $280 million!!! He says he wants to win. Time to step up little man!
  9. Walker? Neil Walker is a free agent after this season. You guys willing to pay him $15 million a year for 2-3 years? If we are gonna spend money lets go after pitching. I like Walker but he's been a 1.5 WAR guy this season
  10. Dubon is from Honduras. Arcia is a Venezuelan Shortstop. A shortstop in Venezeula is sort of like being a sharpshooting hockey player in Canada, or a youth Jazz prodigy in New York City. Villar came up through the meat-grinder that is the Dominican Republic developmental system. Those guys have tons more developmental reps than Dubon. Perez I don't believe was groomed as an elite Venezeulan Shortstop like Arcia but still grew up in that country playing high level ball.... the difference is like comparing high school Baseball in California to high school Baseball in Alaska, literally. Now I understand Dubon moved to the USA at 16 or so but still he was way behind Not trying to be too much of a smart-ass, but I can confidently say that Villar's MLB ceiling is at least a .285 BA with a .369 OBP and 60 stolen bases. That is a lot of production. He has plus speed and athleticism. I would be hesitant to give up on him after a down year. He hit .364 in August. It is reasonable to assume that he has made some adjustments after MLB made adjustments on him in the 1st half
  11. Honestly I would roll with Villar as the 2B in 2018 with hopes that he an return to '16 offensive production and/or hope that Hiura is ready by 2019 Villar has shown flashes in the last month that he is well worth giving more chances to. The talent is extremely high with Villar
  12. Santana tried to play some 1B in the Astros system and was an epic failure at it. Just looking at how he moves in RF I can see that.... not sure we want to see Domingo fielding ground bals or trying to scoop anything.... Braun's failures at 3B was mostly due to throwing. He can probably play 1B
  13. Ok then, with whom? We don't have a Cody Bellinger waiting in the wings. Hosmer and Morrison are going to cost an arm and a leg on multi year deals and you're buying high on both. Even if you want to try to convert Braun or Santana, neither is really an offensive upgrade from a Thames/Aguilar platoon, and it's unrealistic to expect either to be a defensive upgrade in their first year at the position. Any worthwhile trade upgrade is going to be a big hit to the pitching surplus we've worked so hard to build up in the minors. It's easy to say an upgrade would be nice and it certainly would, but I don't see anything out there either internally or externally that makes a lot of sense and is going to be a substantial upgrade. My guess is the tentative plan right now, subject to change like anything else, is one more year of Thames/Aguilar and then re-evaluate after 2018. I would certainly agree. Thames/Aguillar may indeed be considered the best move in 2018. Personally, I'd like to see Braun at 1B in 2018 which allows us to keep all 4 of Brinson/Phillips/Santana/Broxton, all 4 of whom I think are more valuable than Thames.
  14. Thames is ranked 20th among all MLB first basemen in WAR. There is certainly reason to want to upgrade there
  15. adambr - interesting thoughts and I tend to agree, but mostly because we have Phillips as a "safety net" to a degree. I suppose it depends on how much you can get for Brinson. Keon looks like a great 4th or 5th OF to me
  16. Meanwhile, TV ratings across MLB are going up. Is the game more boring? Or not? http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/local-mlb-tv-ratings-shine-clouds-still-loom/
  17. The 3 True Outcome offense is a trend across MLB. Sports Illustrated had a recent article about it https://www.si.com/mlb/2017/06/20/standstill-pace-play-cody-bellinger-clayton-kershaw These trends tend to come & go and evolve over the course of time. With pitching getting better & better, analytics are evidently pointing to the lesser value of manufacturing runs (i.e. "get him on, get him over, get him in") and more to the value of waiting for the HR and trying for the HR. I personally think this is flawed, and some team with athleticism and high contact rate will exploit that flaw and overcome it especially in the postseason, similar to how the Royals did it just a few years ago. In a close, low scoring game featuring the best of the best pitching, you shouldn't just hope for HR's. I think it is a completely backwards approach, but will be interested in the analytics as to why I'm wrong
  18. Questions remain about whether Brinson can stay healthy and whether either Brinson or Phillips can hit MLB pitching Braun of course will likely never play a full season without injury again I'd try to figure out a way to have the starting OF be Braun, Brinson, Phillips but I wouldn't get rid of Santana or Broxton just yet
  19. I like going into the IGT's and arguing with everyone. It's my hobby.
  20. I'll one up him and say if we don't win that's the season. There goes the franchise
  21. Have to say I'm a huge fan of Nate Orf. Undrafted free agent and now is hitting .308/.388 in AAA at 27 years old. Hasn't been an easy road for the guy but he just keeps hitting at every level. Didn't make varsity as a Soph in High School. Wasn't a huge recruit in terms of the SEC/ACC coming out of high school, went to Illinois Chicago and hit over .400, transferred to Baylor and just kept hitting. The guy has been doubted every step of the way and just kept out producing big name draft picks and bigtime prospects. Hope he gets a shot in MLB at some point. I think he can help a team
  22. Tough to say and that is why you gotta trust the Brewers coaching staff & front office who have way more data in terms of every aspect of comparing the two, including and especially health information, MRI's, spin rate data, recovery data in between outings, etc all kinds of things that we fans have no clue about Past results do not insure future predictions. Nelson has not had much sustained success prior to this season, has he? But neither has Anderson, really. In 2015/2016 their production was relatively similar, but Nelson had a much higher WHIP in 2016. In 2017 Anderson has been better. I would want Anderson pitching in a 2017 Wild Card game for sure I'm glad we have both in 2018, 2019 & 2020, and I'm very optimistic about Woodruff as well.... future is looking brighter
