  1. Cubs-Dodgers series showed two key flaws with the Cubs method of operations: Dodgers held onto a vast majority of their top prospects over the last 3-4 years and are built to contend now for several years moving forwards. The Cubs gutted their farm system and are facing a tough situation needing to almost completely rebuild their pitching staff in an offseason where there is not elite starting pitching available via free agency. The Cubs offense is way too "all or nothing" relying on the HR. They are the most "elevate to celebrate" team I've ever seen. This flawed approach can catch lightning in a bottle once, when everyone gets hot at the same time, but is not a sustained plan for success year after year in postseason Baseball. They literally could not manufacture runs other than HR's I hope our Brewers take note. They, also, kept most of their prospects instead of selling out for short term success. However, they rely too much on the HR as well. You gotta have some players who make contact, get on base and create runs in the postseason especially.
  2. Caleb Gindl. Dude could hit. Just needed consistent at bats.
  3. I agree, it would be foolish to let go of Santana unless part of a blockbuster deal that I gsback elite pitching. You look at the production of some if the corner outfielders on playoff teams such as Austin Jackson, Jayson Werth, even (maybe especially) Schwarber/Zobrist, and you start to see how valuable Santana is...
  4. The samples are really small, but at least Phillips looked capable of hitting MLB pitching, whereas the jury is still out on Brinson. Plus Brinson has gotten hurt the last two years. You gotta have the heart of a gambler and be really really sure on Brinson to deal Phillips and keep Brinson. I think that you gotta keep both, to find out for sure which one is legit, unless you are absolutely blown away by a deal.
  5. A majority of Braun's errors were throwing related, but he wasn't exactly a slick glove. I think he could be an OK defensive 1B.
  6. Not a big deal. It was mentioned a lot after the Brewers traded for him in the Journal Sentinel and other places. But that was a few years ago....
  7. Braun has value as a DH and part-time LF in the American League, in particular the AL East. That is where I would look to move him.
  8. Giants will be rebuilding. Why do they want Braun?
  9. Santana cannot play 1B. He tried in the Astros organization and it was a disaster. This is well documented.
  10. It is certainly possible that the Mets don't grasp that they need to rebuild. Two other possible trade targets from teams that might not realize how much they need to rebuild are Marcus Stroman & Chris Archer. If you trade for one of deGrom, Stroman or Archer, and sign a Lance Lynn or Alex Cobb, all of a sudden you have a pretty interesting rotation happening. I think it can/should be done.
  11. If you can get it done without trading Hader, Burnes, Hiura, Woodruff I think you do it... What a huge difference maker deGrom would be at the TOR.
  12. I really like the idea of trading for Jacob deGrom. The Mets will be rebuilding. What are your thoughts on the type of package it would take to trade for 3 seasons of deGrom? He won't be a free agent until 2021. I would think the competition in terms of putting together a strong package for deGrom would be strong, we can't just lowball the Mets and get away with it.
  13. I really like the idea of trading for Jacob deGrom. The Mets will be rebuilding. Let's get that done
  14. A smart GM will build a roster according to what he thinks best but also has to adjust to the manager. Stearns needs to make sure that Thames never bats vs LHP's Sogard never plays SS again Barnes never pitches in the 8th again Thames never bats lead off again Braun never plays more than 4 games a week We have a better LOOGY than Oliver Drake! And if Stearns believes in Villar, he needs to make sure he's the only real option at 2B, because otherwise Counsell will start someone else.
  15. Yeah I'd prefer not to trade Arcia. But if you get a mind blowing return for him you do it.... Walker might be a better signing than Cozart, might not. My bigger point is I want the Brewers to not stand pat with our position players. Let's upgrade. I don't care if I'm correct as to which players to sign...
  16. Or you play Cozart at SS and trade, gasp, Arcia. I would think you could get a nice haul for Arcia. Now, I'm a huge fan of Arcia. Just saying there are options.
  17. I think most are right there with you but I'm not sure adding Hosmer and Cozart bring you that championship. Not them alone, agreed. You would still need to improve the pitching and especially the bullpen. You'd still need the younger players to take another step forward. But it gets you a heckuva lot closer than the lineup we had in 2017.
  18. To me, that is not a lineup that goes deep in the playoffs without completely dominant pitching. I've mentioned upgrading 1B. 2B for sure. In general they need more production out of LF/CF whether that is Brinson/Phillips developing or Braun staying healthy (good luck with that one!) That lineup as is you need Arcia/Santana to develop into superstars, Braun to stay healthy, Pina to not regress, Thames/Aguillar to not be historically horrible in terms of strikeouts. It is just a lot of "if's" You either keep that lineup as is and somehow acquire $75 million+ per year of pitching. (Lynn, Cobb, Neshek, W. Davis etc) Or you go with a lineup more like: Villar or Arcia Hosmer Braun Shaw Santana Cozart Phillips/Brinson Pina Again I don't give a good goobedy goo Batman how much it costs to get Hosmer/Cozart. I want a World Series Championship.
  19. That is the biggest takeaway for me, and a message to those who don't think the Brewers will seek to improve the roster through free agency.
  20. Troy Stokes?! Really? https://www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.fcgi?id=stokes000tro https://www.perfectgame.org/Players/PlayerProfile.aspx?ID=305219 That'd be fantastic if he emerges as a top player. The 6.4 speed is awesome, and I see he hit 20 HR's last year. But he still only hit around .250 and while he stole 30 bases he was caught stealing 12 times. Tell us more please
  21. Maybe we trade for a 3B and put Shaw at 1B, or sign Moustakas and move Shaw to 1B. Maybe we sign Hosmer. Maybe Dombroswki continues his idiocy and trades us Devers for Knebel... I dunno... Thames looks like a strong candidate for regression and hit .188 vs lefties...
  22. There is that word "worth", again. We are competing against teams that have $150 million+ budgets. How much is it worth to actually have a World Series Championship in Milwaukee? You start Thames you have to bring him out of the game late when a Loogy comes in. So you've burnt a bench bat and then Aguillar faces a RHP in the 9th... That is no way to utilize a top half of the order spot, especially considering the strikeouts. Doesn't have to be Hosmer but the position should be upgraded.
  23. Thames/Aguillar also struck out 257 times. Thames cannot hit lefties, at all, and Aguillar can barely hit RHP, which negates their value a bit, as even a 5th Grade manager with some semblance of a clue can play match up with them utilizing relief specialists. 1B is absolutely one of many positions that can be upgraded.
  24. Soroka threw 150 innings in AA with a 2.75 ERA ... He's close You look at the big trade packages we've received Shaw, Dubon, Pennington Hader, Phillips, Santana + Brinson, Ortiz + If you can get that type of return for Knebel, you do it....
  25. Yes, absolutely.
