at the risk of piling on, this seems like Murph playing favorites. Hamilton brings speed and a LHH but a step down on defense and offense otherwise. But we know Murph has been talking him up for a while. Ortiz was brutal first couple months, which i believed was tied to the expected call-ups of Pratt & Williams, and maybe pressing on offense. He is past that now and one of the hottest hitters in baseball. One small gripe about Murph is that when he "plays the numbers", he doesnt seem to value someone being on a heater or needing a reset. Someone can hit 2 HR and get benched the next day due to matchups. Someone can 0-for-August and get thrown right back in for 30 consecutive starts. And bunty is really a great fit for the bench. His speed on the basepaths makes him a great late inning option.

Disagree. The first double was a golf swing. Second double shouldve been caught. His curve has some nice movement, too much where it clipped a guy's foot. certianly not wild. He needs to learn to work through traffic and maybe could use some more deception on his pitches. Hopefully Hook gets him there.

i dont get all the hate for May. The pieces they gave up were expensive but nowhere near what we'd have lost for Skubal. The market for pitchers was pricey at the deadline. Why didnt they do it at a different time of year? Brewers have been very proactive in their deals in the offseason and earlier in the season. They went into this season with expectations for contributions from Woody, Priester, and Sproat that didnt materialize. They found themselves in a better than expected situation for the World Series and had to make some move and this was the best option. Skubal deal only changes the outlook for public opinion, because it wouldve cost Henderson, plus, plus. So that was potentially a wash for THIS YEAR. May deal had ZERO downside for THIS YEAR's TEAM. They lost some longterm prospects and hat to cut loose some scrubs. May is a better option for this year's team than Sproat and he can go longer into games and eat some innings.. and he's experienced. That all helps. The team needed another top-4 pitcher and they have that in May. Plus, there have been enough questions with the health and longevity of Harrison and Henderson around the deadline that we couldnt risk riding 3 young guys for 1-2-3 in the playoffs. We dont know yet where May lands in the playoff rotation, but it could be anywhere 2-4.

Sounds like Lockridge or naylor. Naylor isn’t worth losing a year over. Lockridge adds very little to a stable outfield. Go with Lockridge first then.

In fairness, he struggled and had health questions towards the end last year, then came out struggling again this year before putting together a great season.

just feel this has been the cubs for a while now and have to wonder about the manager at some point. counsell seems like a high stress individual and the team doesnt play loose. They come out like gangbusters with all the hype at each phase and then come crashing down

We’ve seen this before in other games for Miz. When rules and dimensions for mounds were conceived, it wasn’t designed for someone with the size and launch of someone like Miz. And opponents aren’t going to be incentivized to make it easier for him. He even goes to opposing mounds before games to check it out. I think it has to be one of those things that MLB needs to get directly involved with, putting one of their biggest young stars at injury risk. Think of the treatment star QBs get against injury or phantom calls for basketball stars. But this one has merit to me.
