Final: Brevard County 7, Daytona (Cubs) 6 'Tees edge Cubs for another one-run win Brevard holds off Daytona 7-6, now 17-5 in one-run games in 2013 By Andy Towne / Brevard County Manatees DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Tommy Toledo entered in the bottom of the ninth and helped the Brevard County Manatees escape a bases-loaded, one-out jam, en route his eighth save of the season and a 7-6 win over the Daytona Cubs at Jackie Robinson Ballpark on Friday night. A run in both the eighth and ninth innings for the Cubs, both charged to Kevin Shackelford, tightened up what had been a 7-4 lead after six for Brevard County (31-27), as Toledo was called upon to get the 'Tees out of the jam. Brevard County took advantage of big nights from two players in particular, with Greg Hopkins and Nick Ramirez showcasing their offensive talents. Hopkins went 3-for-5, including a pair of doubles, and scored three times with another one knocked in. Ramirez notched three of his four runs batted in with a single swing of the bat in the fifth, launching a home run to right field that scored Hopkins and Mitch Haniger. The homer was the 13th of the year for Ramirez and it gave the Manatees what was at the time a 6-2 advantage before Daytona (29-28) closed the gap with two runs in the bottom of the same inning. After taking a leadoff hit by pitch, Zeke DeVoss stole both second and third, to set himself up to score on Wes Darvill's single. Darvill scored later in the inning on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Tim Saunders, as it was now just a 6-4 lead for the Manatees. A two-out, seventh inning double by Yadiel Rivera was followed by a Chadwin Stang single that brought Rivera home, put Brevard back up by three runs. Hopkins had opened the game up with a double in the first inning and then scored on a Ramirez single to give Brevard the early 1-0 lead. That was extended to 3-0 in the top of the third as T.J. Mittelstaedt drew a one-out walk. That was then followed by back-to-back RBI doubles from Hopkins and Mitch Haniger. David Goforth (5-5, 3.36) earned the win, despite lasting only five innings and surrendering four runs. Two of the runs were scored by batters who were put on by a walk and a hit by pitch, respectively. Goforth only gave up three of the Cubs' 11 hits on the night. He walked two and of his four strikeouts, three of them came when struck out the side in the first inning. The Manatees will return home to Space Coast Stadium for the second game of their series with the Cubs on Saturday night at 6:35 p.m. Cody Scarpetta (0-1, 8.10) will toe the rubber for Brevard County, while Daytona will counter with southpaw Kyler Burke (1-0, 2.40). Final: DSL Brewers 0, DSL Rojos 1 (Game One) The Brewers played a doubleheader today to make up for yesterday's rainout and split the two games with the Rojos. The Rojos are a co-op team made up of players from the Reds and the DiamondBacks. DSL Box Score Not much happening in game one for the Brewers. Third baseman Sthervin Matos and catcher Natanael Mejia had the only two hits of the game for the Brewers, both singles. Right fielder Yunior Santana and shortstop Daniel Leonardo each drew a walk, but that was it for Brewers baserunners. Matos stole his second base of the young season, while Mejia gunned down the one runner who attempted to steal on him. Juan Ortiz recorded an outfield assist. Joan De La Cruz started and pitched one scoreless inning before giving way to Angel Ventura, who was the tough-luck loser, allowing just one run over the final five innings. He struck out four and walked one. Carlos Belonis did not play in this game after leaving the Brewers last game against the Braves on Monday in the fourth inning. DSL Play-By-Play The Brewers best offensive threat came in the third inning with two on and one out DSL Brewers Top of the 3rd Natanael Mejia singles on a ground ball to shortstop Luis Gonzalez. Final: DSL Brewers 2, DSL Tigers 3 The Brewers suffered another tough one run loss to the Tigers on Monday, falling by a score of 3-2. Gian Rizzo got the start for the Brewers and worked three scoreless innings, before being replaced by Joel Dicent. The Tigers got an unearned run off of Dicent, with two outs in the fifth inning to take a 1-0 lead. After retiring the first two batters of the inning, Dicent walked Tigers second baseman Domingo Layba. Willy Adames followed with a single, and an error by Brewers second baseman Raphachel Colatosti allowed Layba to score. The Brewers answered back and took a brief lead in the sixth inning. After the first two batters of the inning were set down, center fielder Yerald Martinez walked. Outfielder Juan Ortiz then blasted a two run home run to right field to give the Brewers a 2-1 lead. The lead wouldn't last long though, as Pedro Peguero relieved Dicent and gave up a pair of runs. Felix Santana doubled to lead off the bottom of the sixth inning. Ignacio Valdez infield single moved Santana to third and put runners at the corners with nobody out. Victor Ovalles then lofted a fly ball to left, deep enough to score Santana and tie the game at 2-2. Valdez moved to second on a ground out and then took third on a wild pitch. Following a two out walk to again put runners at the corners, Peguero uncorked another wild pitch, allowing Valdez to come home with the go-ahead run. That would prove to be the difference in the game, as the Brewers weren't able to muster any more offense and fell to the Tigers for the second game in a row. The Brewers (0-2) will host the Reds (0-2) on Tuesday at the Brewers facility. DSL Brewers Box Score Gian Rizzo started but pitched just three innings in his first outing of 2013. He allowed three hits and struck out one. Joel Dicent followed Rizzo and allowed just one hit in his two innings of work. He struck out three and allowed the one unearned run, thanks to some shoddy defense behind him. Pedro Peguero was credited with a blown save and the loss after giving up two runs in his one inning of work. He gave up a walk, two hits, but it was the two wild pitches that really killed him. Felix Paulino pitched the seventh and eighth innings and gave up just one hit. Not much offense to speak of outside of the two run homer by left fielder Juan Ortiz. He was 1 for 3 with a walk and both Brewers RBI. Catcher Leudi Otano had one hit in three trips to the plate, as did second baseman Raphachel Colatosti. Yerald Martinez and Yunior Santana each drew a walk, but that was it for Brewers baserunners. Colatosti and Santana were both gunned down trying to steal. Carlos Belonis started the game in center field, but was replaced by Martinez after striking out in the fourth inning. May be something to keep an eye on. Hopefully Belonis will be back in the lineup tomorrow. DSL Brewers Play-By-Play The Brewers only runs came on a two out home run in the 6th DSL Brewers Top of the 6th Pitching Change: Rusbell Cabrera replaces Carlos Lara. Juan De Los Santos flies out to left fielder Felix A. Santana. Daniel Leonardo grounds out, shortstop Willy Adames to first baseman Victor Ovalles. Yerald Martinez walks. Final: DSL Tigers 6, DSL Brewers 3 The Dominican Summer League season kicked off this morning with the Brewers dropping their opener to the Tigers by a score of 6-3. The Brewers got on the board first with a run in the bottom of the first inning. Back-to-back one out singles by Juan Ortiz and Sthervin Matos put runners at the corners with one out. After Matos swiped second base, Yunior Santana lifted a fly ball to right to score Ortiz and give the Brewers a 1-0 lead. The Tigers struck back in the third with three runs off Brewers starter Victor Diaz. Manuel Joseph doubled, and with one out stole third base. The throw from Kevin Martinez sailed in to left field allowing Joseph to score and tie the game at 1-1. Ignacio Valdez walked and then moved to second on a ground out. Sandy Acevedo followed with a double to score Valdez. Acevedo moved to third on a wild pitch and scored when Francisco Contreras doubled to left to make it 3-1 Tigers. The Tigers added two more in the seventh when Acevedo led off the inning with a walk and Contreras followed with a two run home run to center field off Joshua Torres. They would tack on one more in the ninth inning when a Contreras sacrifice fly scored Willy Adames to make it 7-1. The Brewers tried to mount a rally in the bottom of the ninth. Carlos Belonis led off with a single and Ortiz followed with a double to score Belonis. With one out, Yunior Santana doubled to left, scoring Ortiz and making the score 6-3. That would be all they could manage though as Tigers reliever Gerson Moreno came on to retire the final two batters. The DSL teams are off on Sunday before the Brewers travel to the Tigers facility for a rematch on Monday. DSL Brewers Box Score Outfielder Juan Ortiz got the season started on the right foot, going 2 for 4 with a double, an RBI and a run scored. He went 1 for 4 and scored a run. Right fielder Yunior Santana had a double and a sac fly. He had two of the Brewers three RBI. Catcher Kevin Martinez had the other Brewers base hit, but also committed the lone error of the game. 17-year-old shortstop Daniel Leonardo, making his debut, drew the lone Brewers walk. 19-year-old Victor Diaz got the start for the Brewers after pitching in 13 games out of the bullpen last season. He went four innings and allowed three runs, all earned, on seven hits. Puerto Rican righty Joshua Torres relieved Diaz and worked three innings. He gave up just one hit, but it was a two run home run. Newly acquired Nelson Arguila pitched the final two innings, giving up one run on one hit. Manatees keep the faith, walk-off in ten Brevard rallies from six-run deficit to top Daytona, 10-9 By Andy Towne / Brevard County Manatees VIERA, Fla. - Faith is exactly what the Brevard County Manatees needed on Faith Night at Space Coast Stadium on Friday night as they rallied from a 7-1 deficit in the fourth inning to come back for a 10-9 win in ten innings over the Daytona Cubs. It was only fitting that the term for a game-ending hit is "walk-off," as the contest featured a total of 21 walks issued by both teams. The nine walks taken by the Brevard County (28-25) offense and the 12 issued by the Manatees' pitching staff both marked season highs, as was the total of five hit batters. Four of the runs scored for Daytona (26-26) were batters who had reached on walks. Tim Saunders scored on Dustin Geiger's three-run homer in the first, Jorge Soler crossed the plate in the third on Taiwan Easterling's bases-loaded walk and then both Javier Baez and Soler came home on Chadd Krist's two-run single in the fourth that put Daytona up 7-1 at that time. Nick Ramirez began Brevard's comeback from the 7-1 deficit with a solo home run in the fourth, which marked his third straight game with a homer and the fifth long ball in his last seven games. Ben McMahan, who homered in the second to get the 'Tees on the board, followed with a double to right-center and then scored on Chadwin Stang's first RBI single to make it a 7-3 game. McMahan finished a triple shy of the cycle, as he went 3-for-4, drew two walks and crossed the plate three times. After another run in the top of the sixth to make the score 8-3 for Daytona, the Manatees benefitted from McMahan's leadoff walk as they would put together a string of three straight, one-out singles in the inning. Stang's was the one that got McMahan home, with Yadiel Rivera scoring on a fielder's choice by Greg Hopkins. Inching closer in the seventh, Brevard County finished the inning with just a one-run deficit at 8-7. Cameron Garfield led off the frame with a double and scored on Cody Hawn's lone hit of the evening. Ramirez walked behind Garfield and after back-to-back singles from McMahan and Hawn, found himself at third base. From there, he scored on a fielder's choice courtesy of Stang, whose drove in three runs on the night. Brevard County took its first lead of the game in the bottom of the eighth, an inning that saw two runs scored on four walks and one single from Garfield. For Garfield it was his third hit of the night, to go along with McMahan's three. Mitch Haniger, Ramirez, Rivera and Stang each had two hits each. Going to the ninth with a 9-8 lead, the Manatees did not make it out of the frame unscathed. Wes Darvill led the inning off with a single and then Tommy Toledo allowed a walk and hit a batter to load the bases with one out. Jorge Soler's fielder's choice knocked in Darvill to tie the game. Rivera had to make a diving grab at the edge of the left field grass to leave all three men stranded and keep the game square at nine. With the 'Tees not scoring in the bottom half of the ninth, Toledo spun a perfect top of the tenth and was credited with the win after Ramirez led off with a single, Hawn walked and Rivera brought in pinch-runner T.J. Mittelstaedt with a game-winning double. Mittelstaedt has now been involved in three of Brevard's four walk-offs this year, also knocking an RBI double against St. Lucie on May 16 and blasting a home run less than a week ago on May 25 against Clearwater. Getting the start for the Manatees was Jacob Barnes, who after tying a career-high five walks issued in a relief appearance on Sunday, topped that number with six on Friday. He lasted 2.1 innings as he scattered four hits with two strikeouts and was charged with five runs. Tyler Cravy was asked to go the longest of the four Brevard hurlers used in the contest, as he was responsible for three runs on four hits and three walks, with one strikeout, in 3.2 innings of work. Matt Miller tossed two hitless and scoreless innings with a strikeout, though he put four men on with a pair of walks and a pair of hit batsmen, before Toledo came on and gave up one run for the blown save in the ninth. Toledo ended up with the win, with a walk and a hit on line. The series shifts to Daytona for game two on Saturday at 7:00 p.m. Chad Pierce (2-1, 2.23) will make the start for Brevard County, while the Cubs leave the starting task up to P.J. Francescon (3-4, 5..37). Game three of the series will be back at Space Coast Stadium at 5:05 on Sunday.

Final: Dayton (Cubs) 9, Brevard County 10 (10 Innings) Brevard County Box Score Great come back win for the Manatees. Down 7-1 in the 4th inning, they came back to win it 10-9 in extras. Every BC player had at least one hit except for second baseman Greg Hopkins. Nick Ramirez stayed hot, going 2 for 4 with his 12th home run of the year. It was his third game in the row with a homer and his fifth long ball in his last seven games. More impressively, Ramirez drew a pair of walks and did not strike out in six trips to the plate. Cameron Garfield went 3 for 6 with a pair of doubles. He's hit safely in 9 of his last 10 games now. Ben McMahan was on base five times. He homered, doubled, singled and drew two walks, falling just a double short of a cycle. Mitch Haniger had two doubles and drew a walk. Final: Brevard County 1, Clearwater (Phillies) 4 'Tees drop fourth straight, swept by Threshers By Frank Longobardo / Brevard County Manatees CLEARWATER, Fla. - The Brevard County Manatees were swept in a series for the first time in 2013 as they dropped the finale of their three-game set with the Clearwater Threshers, 4-1 on Thursday night at Bright House Field. The Threshers jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the second inning on starting pitcher David Goforth (4-5, 3.05) and the 'Tees (27-25). Chris Serritella drove in Maikel Franco, who led off the frame with a double, with a double of his own. Clearwater (27-25) tacked two more on in the third on a two-out, two-run home run by Kelly Dugan. Threshers starting pitcher Hoby Milner retired 13 Brevard County hitters before finally allowing a Manatee to reach base. That would come in the form of a one-out, solo homer off the bat of Nick Ramirez in the fifth inning. For Ramirez, it was his 11th home run of the season and seventh against Clearwater in 12 games against the Threshers this season. Ramirez has gone deep seven times in May and is hitting .306 (11-for-36) with five homers and 11 RBI in his last ten games. That would be the only run that the 'Tees would plate on the night however as they managed just four singles, including two from Cameron Garfield, the rest of the way against Milner, Juan Sosa and Ryan O'Sullivan. The Threshers padded their lead in the seventh as Aaron Altheer tripled with two outs to chase Goforth from the game. Stephen Peterson would then come in and give up a double to Dugan that plated Altheer and closed the book on Goforth. For Goforth, he allowed four runs on eight hits, while walking one and striking out seven for the second straight start against the Threshers. Goforth is now 1-4 with a 4.88 ERA in five road starts in 2013. Brevard County will look to snap its season-high four game losing streak as they open a three-game series with the Daytona Cubs (26-25) at Space Coast Stadium on Friday night at 6:35 p.m. The two teams will then play on Saturday at Jackie Robinson Ballpark in Daytona Beach, before returning to Viera for Sunday's series finale. After coming out of the bullpen since coming off the disabled list, Jacob Barnes (4-1, 2.00) will get his first start since April 23 on Friday. The Cubs will send southpaw Kyler Burke (1-0, 0.90) to the mound. Brevard County Box Score David Goforth allowed four runs on eight hits in 6.2 innings. He struck out seven batters. Stephen Peterson pitched 1.1 innings of scoreless relief. Nick Ramirez homered again for the Manatees, he has four home runs in his last six games. Cameron Garfield went 2 for 4. Yadiel Rivera and Chadwin Stang each singled for the other two BC hits. Brevard County Play-By-Play Brevard County Top of the 5th Cameron Garfield strikes out swinging. Nick Ramirez homers (11) on a fly ball to right field. Yadiel Rivera singles on a ground ball to center fielder Aaron Altherr. T. J. Mittelstaedt strikes out swinging. Final: Brevard County 4, Clearwater (Phillies) 5 (10 Innings) 'Tees edged in ten on walk-off walk Brevard drops third in a row to Clearwater in 5-4 matinee By Dave Walkovic / Brevard County Manatees CLEARWATER, Fla. - With the bases loaded in a tie game, Chris Serritella drew a walk-off walk in the bottom of the tenth inning as the Brevard County Manatees fell 5-4 to the Clearwater Threshers on Wednesday afternoon at Bright House Field. Matt Miller entered the game in the tenth and allowed a single to Aaron Altheer to start the frame before Kelly Dugan walked. Maikel Franco then popped up to first, which was then followed by Cameron Perkins being hit by a pitch. Altheer then crossed the plate after was forced in by the Serritella walk with a full count. The Manatees (27-24) held a 4-2 lead into the seventh inning before a two-run double by Carlos Alonso tied the game. Andre Lamontagne, who entered the game to start the inning, recorded just two outs and allowed two runs on the Alonso hit and three walks. Brevard County took the lead in the first inning on a two-run opposite field blast by Nick Ramirez. For Ramirez, it was his tenth homer of the year. Clearwater (26-25) responded with a Kelly Dugan two-run opposite field shot of his own in the bottom half of the inning off of Manatees' starting pitcher Jed Bradley. Dugan's homer would be the lone mistake that Bradley would make all afternoon. He did not factor in the decision, but left the game with the lead after six innings of work. The southpaw allowed just the two runs on four hits and one walk. He fanned a season-high seven batters. The 'Tees regained a two-run lead in the top of the fifth inning, as T.J. Mittelstaedt started things off with a one-out walk. Greg Hopkins singled up the middle to put runners on the corners. Hopkins and Ramirez both registered two hits in the ballgame for Brevard With two outs, Hopkins stole second and an errant throw into center field by catcher Bob Stumpo allowed Mittelstaedt to score. The next batter, Cody Hawn, drove in Hopkins with a single lined to right field. Kevin Shackelford tossed 2.1 scoreless innings of relief to keep the game tied into extra innings. Clearwater's Ryan O'Sullivan was credited with the win after he tallied a scoreless top half of the tenth. The Manatees will look to avoid both the series sweep and their first four-game losing streak of the season as they wrap up their three-game set with the Threshers on Wednesday night at 7:00 p.m. David Goforth (4-4, 2.77) will take the hill for Brevard County. Clearwater will counter with lefty Hoby Milner (4-2, 4.44). Brevard County Box Score Nick Ramirez belted his 10th home run of the season. He trails only Miguel Sano of the Twins for the Florida State League lead. Ramirez went 2 for 4 and drew a walk. Greg Hopkins stayed hot, going 2 for 5. Mitch Haniger was on base twice with a single and a walk. Cody Hawn and Chadwin Stang had the other two hits for the Manatees. Hopkins stole his fourth base of the year, but Stang got caught for the fourth time as well. Yadiel Rivera was hit by a pitch. Jed Bradley pitched a pretty good game for BC. He went six innings and gave up just two runs on four hits. He struck out seven and walked just one. Andre Lamontagne really struggled after plunking Kyrell Hudson in the head. It may have shaken him up as he walked three and allowed one hit in just two-thirds of an inning. Kevin Shackelford did a good job of getting out of a seventh inning jam, on his way to tossing 2.1 innings of shutout ball, without allowing a hit. Matt Miller's season long struggles continued, as he retired just one batter before giving up the game winning run in the 10th. Brevard County Play-By-Play Brevard County Top of the 1st T. J. Brevard blanked 3-0 in Clearwater By Frank Longobardo / Brevard County Manatees\ CLEARWATER, Fla. - The Brevard County Manatees managed just five hits as they were shutout for the fifth time this season in a 3-0 loss to the Clearwater Threshers in Tuesday night's series opener at Bright House Field. The 'Tees (27-23) faced off against three-time Major League All-Star Carlos Zambrano as he got the start on the mound for the Threshers (25-25). Brevard County recorded three hits off of Zambrano and drew two walks, but the Manatees could only get one runner in scoring position against him in his 4.1 innings of work. For the Manatees, southpaw Brent Suter (3-3, 3.44) entered the game allowed just one run in each of his last three starts. Clearwater would plate their first run off of Suter in the second as Chris Serritella, who reached on a one-out double, came around to score one batter later as Jose Mojica singled to left. The Threshers scored two more runs against Suter in the bottom of the fifth as Aaron Altherr doubled to left to bring home both Kyrell Hudson and Jonathan Roof. Suter's night would be done after six innings as he allowed eight hits, the most in his six starts with Brevard. He walked just one, but recorded just one strikeout, which is his lowest total in a game with the 'Tees this year. Chad Pierce relieved Suter and kept Brevard County in the game as he extended his scoreless innings streak to 18.1 as he blanked Clearwater for two frames. After the Manatees' offense went down in order in the sixth, seventh and eighth, Brevard started a two-out rally in the ninth. Both Cody Hawn and Yadiel Rivera singled to put the potential tying run at the plate, in the form of Brandon Macias. Macias though would go down swinging against Luis Garcia to end the game. Greg Hopkins was the only Manatee with a multi-hit night as he went 2-for-4. Hopkins is hitting .317 (13-for-41) in ten games so far against the Threshers this season. It will be a quick turnaround for Brevard County and Clearwater as the two teams will square off in a Wednesday matinee at 1:00 p.m. at Bright House Field. Southpaw Jed Bradley (3-2, 5.45) will get the ball for the 'Tees as he looks to bounce back from his last outing, in which he allowed a career-high eight runs. For the Threshers, right-hander Perci Garner (4-0, 2.32) will toe the rubber. Garner has yet to face Brevard this season, but he was 2-0 with a 4.60 ERA in three starts against the 'Tees last season.

Final: Brevard County 0, Clearwater (Phillies) 3 Brevard County Box Score The Manatees were shut out again. It's the fifth time this season already that they have been shut out. They lead the Florida State League in strikeouts and are dead last in hits, walks, average and OPS. They struck out nine more times tonight. Carlos Zambrano was the starter for Clearwater, but it was Severino Gonzalez who really shut down BC. He gave up a walk to T.J. Mittelstaedt, the first batter he faced, then retired the next 11 in a row. Greg Hopkins had a pair of hits. He has a short four game hitting streak now and has six hits in those four games. Yadiel Rivera went 1 for 3 with a walk. Cameron Garfield and Cody Hawn had the other two Manatees hits, though according to the Clearwater radio call, Hawn's was just a pop up on the infield where the pitcher and third baseman almost collided, allowing the ball to drop. Mitch Haniger was held hitless for the first time since being promoted. Brandon Macias committed a throwing error, his seventh of the season. Brent Suter pitched fairly well. Three runs in six innings, so a quality start, but he did allow eight hits. He did a good job of limiting the damage though and kept his team in the game. Chad Pierce pitched the final two innings, and didn't allow a run, despite walking the first three batters he faced. Garfield gunned down a runner trying to steal to keep the Threshers off the board in the seventh. Brevard County Play-By-Play BC brought the tying run to the plate in the ninth Brevard County Top of the 9th Pitching Change: Luis Garcia replaces Severino Gonzalez. Final: Clearwater (Phillies) 7, Brevard County 5 Sweep eludes 'Tees in finale with Threshers By Andy Towne / Brevard County Manatees VIERA, Fla. - Despite a strong start from Brooks Hall, the Clearwater Threshers showed patience against the Brevard County Manatees' bullpen and were able to walk away from Space Coast Stadium with a 7-5 win on Sunday evening. Five walks from Jacob Barnes in 3.1 innings out of the bullpen matched his career high and proved to be the determining factor, as three of the seven men who scored for Clearwater reached on walks and another run scored on a bases loaded walk from Barnes. After back-to-back, one out doubles in the first inning, which scored one run, Hall (2-3, 2.63) settled in to face the minimum number of batters until he was lifted in favor of Barnes after the fifth. Hall finished with three hits allowed and no walks, while striking out four. Each of the first five batters reached against Barnes (4-1, 2.00) in the sixth, though leadoff man Kyrell Hudson was erased at home plate on a fielder's choice force out. After the second out had been recorded, Brock Stassi came up with a single to knock in two runs to give Clearwater a 4-3 lead. Brevard County (27-22) had answered back from the first-inning run allowed by Hall as they took a 2-1 in the bottom of the third on a two-run double from Cameron Garfield. Mitch Haniger, who scored one of those runs, extended that lead to 3-1 with a double of his own to plate Greg Hopkins in the fifth. After the three-run sixth, Clearwater (24-23) added another pair in the seventh despite only recording one hit in the frame. A leadoff walk followed by a single, an error, a sacrifice fly and a fielder's choice accounted for the scoring to give the visitors a 6-3 lead. The Manatees took three straight walks from reliever Colton Murray after the stretch, and two of those runners were able to score on a pair of sacrifice flies from Nick Ramirez and Garfield, bringing the game back to within one run. Another walk by Barnes to start the top of the ninth put an insurance run on base for Clearwater as Logan Moore eventually came around to score on another free pass, a fielder's choice and a single. After the RBI single, Andre Lamontagne entered out of the bullpen and induced two fly balls to get out of the inning with no further damage. Unfortunately for the Manatees, the offense couldn't get anything going in the ninth inning for Luis Garcia, as Brevard County went down in order and were unable to complete the sweep. Following an off day on Monday, the two teams will continue what is essentially a six-game series, with the beginning of a three-game set at Bright House Field in Clearwater on Tuesday. Final: Clearwater (Phillies) 2, Brevard County 3 Mittelstaedt, 'Tees blast off on a walk-off Brevard wins 14th one-run game of 2013 in 3-2 victory over Threshers By Andy Towne / Brevard County Manatees VIERA, Fla. - T.J. Mittelstaedt once again made himself the hero with a mammoth blast with two outs in bottom of the ninth inning, securing a 3-2 walk-off for the Brevard County Manatees over the Clearwater on Saturday night at Space Coast Stadium. It was his second walk-off hit for Brevard County (27-21) this season, after smacking a two-out double on May 16 against the St. Lucie Mets. The hit made a winner of Kevin Shackelford, who was the only man needed out of the bullpen after relievers had combined for 13.2 innings in the previous two games combined. Shackelford threw two scoreless frames with two hits allowed. Maikel Franco gave Clearwater (23-25) the early lead in the fourth inning with a solo shot, his tenth long ball of the year. In the bottom of the fourth, Cameron Garfield took advantage of a passed ball on a swinging third strike to reach first to lead off the inning. Nick Ramirez would then send a ball over the right field batting cages make it 2-1 in favor of Brevard County. Five of Ramirez's nine homers in 2013 have now come against the Threshers. Clearwater was able to tie the game in the seventh, with each of the first four batters recording base hits and Cameron Perkins scoring on a Jonathan Roof RBI single. That seventh inning was the final one for Manatees' starting pitcher David Goforth (4-4, 2.77), who did not factor into the decision for only the second time this year. Goforth turned in seven strong innings as he allowed only two runs on six hits. He struck out seven and did not issue a walk for the first time on the season. The Threshers also only used a pair of pitchers, sending starter Mario Hollands out for 5.1 innings of two-run ball, with one of those runs being unearned. He scattered six hits, walked only one and recorded eight strikeouts. Hollands was backed up by Ryan O'Sullivan, who went the final 3.1 innings and was charged with the loss after giving up the walk-off home run. It was one of only three hits he allowed. Mitch Haniger tied a career high with three hits in just his third game with Brevard County, while Ramirez and Mittelstaedt each had two hits, including their respective homers. Brevard's current seven-game home stand concludes on Sunday evening, with first pitch slated for 5:05 PM (4:05 Central) in the third of six straight games overall against Clearwater. Brooks Hall (2-3, 2.72) and Gabriel Arias (5-2, 2.22) will start on the mound for the Manatees and Threshers, respectively. Brevard County Box Score Big night for Mitch Haniger who was 3 for 4 with a double. Nick Ramirez was 2 for 4 and homered for the second straight night, his ninth of the season. T.J. Mittelstaedt also went ard for the Manatees as part of a 2 for 4 night. Greg Hopkins and Brandon Macias had the other BC hits. David Goforth had another fine outing, allowing just two runs over seven innings. Kevin Shackelford tossed two scoreless and earned the win. Final: Clearwater (Phillies) 4, Brevard County 5 No game story yet for BC. I'm calling it a night. I'll get to it tomorrow morning unless someone sees it yet later tonight and wants to post it up. Brevard County Box Score Every player in the BC lineup was on base at least once, and all but Lance Roenicke recorded at least one hit. Greg Hopkins had a big night for the Manatees, going 3 for 4 with a pair of doubles. It's been a rough month of May for Hopkins, so it's nice to see him start to swing it again. Nick Ramirez had a walk and his team leading eighth home run. Brandon Macias also hit a home run. He's hit in four straight games now. Mitch Haniger was 1 for 3 with a walk. Yadiel Rivera singled and walked. He's had a hit in 8 of his last 10 games. Drew Gagnon started but only went two innings after getting hit by a line drive. He stayed in the game and finished the second inning, but then was replaced by Stephen Peterson in the third. Peterson pitched three innings and gave up one run. Tommy Toledo recorded the increasingly rare two inning save. It was his fifth of the year. Brevard County Play-By-Play Brevard used a three run seventh to take the lead and then held on from there. Brevard County Bottom of the 7th Pitching Change: Chris Nichols replaces Hoby Milner. Rafael Neda flies out to center fielder Kyrell Hudson. Lance Roenicke strikes out swinging. Brandon Macias homers (2) on a fly ball to center field. Gregory Hopkins singles on a line drive to shortstop Jonathan Roof. Final: Palm Beach (Cardinals) 9, Brevard County 5 Brevard denied sweep of Palm Beach By Dave Walkovic / Brevard County Manatees VIERA, Fla. - The Brevard County Manatees dropped a 9-5 decision to the Palm Beach Cardinals on Thursday night at Space Coast Stadium, in a game that featured 12 runs in the first three innings and a rain delay of over an hour. Brevard County (25-21) started the scoring in the bottom of the first inning. T.J. Mittelstaedt walked to lead off the frame against Cardinals' starter Juan Bautista. With one out and Mittelstaedt on second, the newest Manatee, Mitch Haniger singled the left to put men on the corners. Haniger went 1-for-4 in his Brevard County debut. Nick Ramirez then lifted a sacrifice fly to deep center field to plate Mittelstaedt and give the 'Tees the early lead. Cameron Garfield then crushed an RBI triple to right-center field to double the lead. Palm Beach (18-28) responded with three runs in the top of the second inning on consecutive run scoring hits. After Matt Williams dribbled a ball into center field with two outs, Jesus Montero and Cesar Valera each hit RBI doubles. Nick Longmire then singled home Valera to give the Cardinals a 3-2. The Cardinals' lead would be short lived however as Brandon Macias led of the bottom half of the second with a double down the right field line. Yadiel Rivera then singled to left field to plate Macias and tie the game. Rivera advanced to second on the throw home and was balked over to third. Mittelstaedt gave Brevard County the lead right back with a sacrifice fly to center. The seesaw battle continued in the third inning with rain clouds looming in the area. After 'Tees starter Jed Bradley walked the first two batters, Jonathan Rodriguez crushed a three-run homer to center field to give Palm Beach a 6-4 lead. Montero brought Willams home again with another two-out RBI hit that would end Bradley's night. Bradley (3-2, 5.45) lasted just 2.2 innings and surrendered a career-high eight runs on eight hits. Matt Miller relieved Bradley and hit two consecutive batters and then walked Colin Walsh with the bases loaded to extend the Cardinals lead to 8-4. The fourth ball to Walsh was the final pitch before a 66 minute rain delay. After play resumed, the team's traded runs. In the bottom of the seventh, Ramirez plated Mittelstaedt with an RBI single to right field, but that was as close as the Manatees would get. Chad Pierce was the first man out of the bullpen after the lengthy rain delay. He pitched brilliantly as he allowed only one hit and struck out six in 4.1 innings. The homestand will continue for the 'Tees as the Clearwater Threshers (23-23) come to Space Coast Stadium for a three-game series. Drew Gagnon (3-4, 5.40) will get the start for Brevard in Friday's opener, with first pitch set for 6:35 p.m. Brevard County Box Score Yadiel Rivera and Brandon Macias each went 2 for 4 for BC. Macias doubled and now has five hits in his last three games after a really slow start to the season. Mitch Haniger was 1 for 4, scored a run and recorded an outfield assist in his Manatees debut. As a prospect guy I'm really happy to finally have Haniger in Brevard, makes the games that much more interesting. Cameron Garfield had a triple. Cody Hawn singled and walked, as did Chadwin Stang. Garfield committed his fourth error of the season. Jed Bradley did not have a great night, allowing 8 runs on 8 hits over 2.2 innings. Matt Miller pitched to three batters, he hit two and walked the other. Chad Pierce pitched 4.1 innings of scoreless relief. He allowed just one hit. Final: Palm Beach (Cardinals) 2, Brevard County 4 Early homers send 'Tees to 4-2 win Mittelstaedt, Hawn go deep; Suter victorious over Cards By Andy Towne / Brevard County Manatees VIERA, Fla. - A pair of first inning homers helped the Brevard County Manatees to their third straight win over the Palm Beach Cardinals, 4-2 on Wednesday night at Space Coast Stadium. After Manatees (25-20) starting pitcher Brent Suter (3-2, 3.23) allowed a run on two walks and a hit in the top of the first, the offense got behind him in the bottom of the inning. Brevard's second leadoff home run of the season came off the bat of T.J. Mittelstaedt as he took the 2-0 offering from Palm Beach (17-28) starter Scott Gorgen and blasted it over the right-center field wall. Later on in the frame with two outs and one on, Cody Hawn would blast his seventh homer of the season down the right field line to give the 'Tees a 3-1 lead. Following a rocky first inning, Suter would settle in and ended up allowing a total of five hits and three walks, while striking out six batters in six innings of work. He gave up just one run for the second consecutive outing. Brandon Macias led off the fifth inning with a double and then scored two batters later on a single from Mittelstaedt to push the lead to 4-1. Both Macias and Mittelstaedt had two hits each for the Manatees. Palm Beach made it interesting in the seventh, as Stephen Peterson walked two batters and allowed a hit to load the bases. Peterson also notched a pair of strikeouts, but was lifted in favor of Kevin Shackelford. Shackelford would walk Stephen Piscotty to bring in a run, but left the bases loaded to prevent any further damage as he fanned Jonathan Rodriguez. Tommy Toledo entered in the ninth and earned fourth save of the year to ensure the win, which put Brevard County a season-high five games over the .500 mark this season. A four-game sweep of Palm Beach is on the line for Brevard County on Thursday night at Space Coast Stadium, beginning at 6:35 p.m. Southpaw Jed Bradley (3-1, 3.82) will toe the rubber for the Manatees. The Cardinals will make it a battle of lefties as they will send Ryan Sherriff (0-1, 2.70) to the hill. Manatees starting pitcher Brent Suter fanned six hitters in six innings as Brevard County defeated the Palm Beach Cardinals, 4-2 on Wednesday night at Space Coast Stadium in Viera. Outside of one hiccup where he gave up six runs in five innings, he's been great all season. Tonight he went six strong innings, giving up just one run. Kevin Shackelford pitched 1.1 innings of scoreless relief and Tommy Toledo pitched another scoreless ninth for his fourth save. He's been very good in the closer's role. Wonder if he might keep the job when Harvey comes back. T.J. Mittelstaedt led the offense with a 2 for 4 night. He smacked his third home run since joining the Manatees. Cody Hawn also homered for BC. It was his seventh of the season, tying him with Nick Ramirez for the team lead. Brandon Macias was 2 for 3 with a double. Cameron Garfield added a double, and Ramirez singled for the other Brevard hits. Ben McMahan was caught stealing and Macias was picked off. Brevard County Play-By-Play The Manatees for another three run first inning thanks to a pair of home runs and never looked back Brevard County Bottom of the 1st T. J. With the DSL starting up a week from Saturday, I was just wondering if we have someone lined up to handle their games? If somebody is interested in link reporting and would prefer to take Brevard instead, I'd be willing to cover the Dominican squad.

Final: Palm Beach (Cardinals) 1, Brevard County 2 Manatees edge Cardinals on eighth inning error Hall and Barnes combine to allow two hits in 2-1 win By Andy Towne / Brevard County Manatees VIERA, Fla. - Yet another pitching duel involving the Brevard County Manatees ended in a close game, with the home team taking a 2-1 decision against the Palm Beach Cardinals, thanks to an unearned run in the eighth inning on Tuesday night at Space Coast Stadium. Palm Beach got on the board early thanks to a one-out walk and double in the first inning, but starting pitcher Brooks Hall (2-3, 2.72) then retired 14 straight batters as he totaled five strikeouts on the night. Brevard County's (23-20) offense was held off the board until the fifth inning, when Yadiel Rivera led off with a single and then moved up 90 feet on a Lance Roenicke sacrifice bunt. Chadwin Stang brought Rivera home from second with a single to center to tie the game. The Manatees and Cardinals (17-27) looked like they were heading into extra innings, until the bottom of the eighth. Stang led off the inning with a walk and two batters later with two outs a single from Cameron Garfield dropped in front of right fielder Stephen Piscotty, moving Stang from first to third base. Piscotty's throw across the field was cut off by the shortstop Ronny Gil, who attempted to pickoff Garfield after his wide turn around first but Gil threw the ball away that allowed Stang to score. Brevard County improved its record to 12-4 in one-run games this season, which is tops in the Florida State League. Jacob Barnes relieved Hall in the sixth and earned the win to improve his record to a perfect 4-0. He lowered his ERA to 0.76 on the season with four scoreless innings as he surrendered only one hit, while walking two with one strikeout. A win on Wednesday night would guarantee the 'Tees the series victory over the Cardinals. Southpaw Brent Suter (2-2, 3.65) will toe the rubber for Brevard County and he will be opposed by Palm Beach's Scott Gorgen (3-1, 4.01). First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. Brevard County Box Score Where would this team be without some of the pitching performances they've had this season.
